Abstract

The community structure of Tridacnidae in the shallow coral waters of Dedap Island, Batam, has been analysed through a quantitative approach to reveal ecological dynamics and exploitation pressures from the surrounding communities. This study employed transect methods and ecological index analysis, including Shannon-Wiener diversity (H?), evenness (E), and Simpson's dominance (D) across five observation stations. The results indicate a high dominance of Tridacna crocea in locations with low exploitation pressure, whereas T. maxima and T. squamosa, which are still hunted by the local population, exhibit limited abundance. Pearson correlation revealed that dissolved oxygen (DO) has a strong positive relationship with H? and E, and a negative relationship with D, while temperature showed an inverse relationship. The integration of ecological analysis with socio-ecological factors revealed that anthropogenic exploitation pressures also shape community structure spatially. This study offers a holistic approach to the conservation management of Tridacnidae based on community participation and habitat zoning, while simultaneously addressing gaps in ecological and social research in the coral reef areas of western Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to focus on developing a measurement tool for assessing service quality in primary schools utilising the ADDIE model. The development process consists of five key phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. By applying the ADDIE framework, the study successfully established an instrument to evaluate educational service quality at Public Elementary School in South Tangerang. The process followed a systematic approach through these five stages. In the Analysis phase, the study found that the SERVQUAL model is particularly suitable for assessing educational service quality in primary education. During the Design phase, the questionnaire was validated by experts without requiring any modifications, confirming its content validity. In the Development phase, 23 out of 26 statements were deemed valid, resulting in a reliability score of 0.812, indicating the instrument's consistency. The Implementation phase confirmed the validity and reliability of all statements on a larger scale, achieving a Cronbach's alpha of 0.924. Finally, the Evaluation phase gathered feedback that endorses the instrument's effectiveness while identifying areas for future enhancement. Overall, this research illustrates that the developed tool is both valid and reliable, offering essential insights into educational service quality from parents' perspectives.

Abstract

This study explores the population structure, spatial distribution, and community utilization of Lambis lambis on Abang Island as a foundation for species conservation and community-based management. The research aims to examine the population structure and distribution patterns of Lambis lambis as well as its utilization by fishing communities on Abang Island, Batam. Data were collected using a 50-meter quadrat transect method with observation plots measuring 5 m × 5 m, along with measurements of environmental parameters (dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity). The results indicate low population density (0.012–0.028 ind/m²) and a clustered distribution pattern (Morisita Index > 1). A positive correlation was found between dissolved oxygen and population density, while high temperature showed a negative correlation. These findings suggest that environmental pressure and exploitation influence the spatial distribution of Lambis lambis. This study provides a scientific basis for community-based management and species conservation.

Abstract

The exploitation of sea cucumbers in Indonesia has reportedly increased by 66% in the last two decades. This figure is considered the upper limit for sustainable exploitation. The waters of Batam, Riau Islands, are known as one of sea cucumber producers. However, no current status report exists on Batam Island's diversity and abundance of sea cucumbers.  This study aimed to determine the diversity of species and the abundance of sea cucumbers found in Abang, Ngenang, Temoyong Island, and Riau Island. Sampling was carried out quantitatively by applying the quadratic transect method at the three locations. About three transect lines were placed at each station, drawn perpendicular from the coastline towards the sea with a length of 50 m. The distance between each transect line was 50 m, and a 5x5 m plot was placed on each. The results showed that there were six types of sea cucumbers, namely Stichopus nactivagus, Stichopus hermanni, Stichopus monotuberculatus, Holothuria scabra, Holothuria impatiens, and Holothuria leucospila. The species diversity in three locations ranged from 0.214 to 0.314. The abundance of species on Abang, Ngenang, and Temoyong Islands was in the range of 0.073 to 0.1 individual/m2, respectively. The low diversity and abundance indicate high environmental pressure on Batam, Riau Islands sea cucumber populations.
