Abstract

Overcrowding is one of the factors that contribute to respiratory diseases transmission, including pneumonia. Pneumonia is an infectious disease commonly found and is the most important cause of death for children aged <5. Generally, pneumonia was found in low-income residents from houses overcrowded. This study aims to identify the most dominant risk factors for community pneumonia in children aged <5 years who live in crowded housing in the Work Area of the North Larangan Public Health Center, Tangerang. A case-control study was conducted, with a ratio of cases and controls of 1:1, namely 25 cases and 25 controls. The sampling technique of cases is total sampling, and the control is purposive sampling. This study used univariate, bivariate with chi-square test, and regression logistic for multivariate analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that the risk factors associated with the incidence of pneumonia in children under five who lived in dense housing were exclusive breastfeeding (OR=7.65 (95% CI:1.27-46.07)) and nutritional status (OR=8.79 (95%CI:1.05-73.78)). Reducing the lack of exclusive breastfeeding and improving the underweight dietary status of children can minimize the risk of pneumonia in children under five living in dense housing.

Abstract

According to the Jambi City Health Service Profile in 2021-2022, Putri Ayu Health Center is one of the inpatient health centers in Jambi City which is also acontributes the largest amount of medical waste with the amount of waste is 615 kg out of a total of 7804.1 kg of medical waste from health centers in Jambi City, so it has the potential to spread disease if medical waste is not managed properly. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Data was obtained from 8 informants by conducting in-depth interviews and observations in May 2023 - April 2024 using qualitative research data analysis software. In the input aspect (1) Human Resources in the quantity aspect are sufficient, while the qualifications are not appropriate because they come from general administration. (2) Facilities and infrastructure are not sufficient and if there is damage, goods will be procured and reported to envinronmental health authority. Meanwhile, in the process aspect (3) Sorting is carried out by each waste producing poly unit by labeling the type of waste, date and poly, (4) The container used at the Putri Ayu Public Health Center meets the standards of Minister of Health Regulation Number 18 of 2020 (5) Transportation is carried out more than once every 2 days by PT Anggrek (6). Storage is carried out at TPS with a time span of 2-3 days at the latest. There are still input aspects that do not comply with standards (in the case of this research, namely the quality of human resources) causing disruption to process aspects, such as less than optimal management performance in managing medical waste in the container, transport and storage processes.

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major contributor to illness and death. COPD can result in the obstruction of airflow and disturbance of the respiratory system. These symptoms have a tendency to be enduring and progressively worse. In Indonesia, the number of persons affected by COPD is estimated to be 9.2 million, with smokers being the primary cause of COPD cases. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine the risk variables linked to the occurrence of COPD among smokers in Bandung City in 2022. This study employed a cross-sectional design, with a sample size of 189 smokers aged over 40 years in Bandung City. The participants were selected via total sampling. This study employed secondary research methodology, utilising chi-square and binary regression analysis for data analysis. The findings indicated that the prevalence of high-risk COPD cases in Bandung City in 2022 was 12.7%. An relationship was seen between age, smoking intensity, namely 20-30 packs of cigarettes per year, and level of physical activity. After controlling for age, physical activity, and degree of smoking, the primary cause of the increased risk of COPD was the consumption of 20-30 packs of cigarettes per year (PR= 11.34; 95% CI = 1.65 to 77.67). This study highlights the significance of lifestyle interventions, such as smoking cessation programmes and CERDIK's behaviours, in managing COPD.
