Abstract

In the era of globalization, English language proficiency has become an essential skill, especially for village officials and village office staff who frequently interact with outsiders, including foreign tourists. Pererenan Village, located on the main tourism route in Bali, faces challenges in improving the international communication capacity of its village officials. To overcome this obstacle, an English language training program was conducted as part of the community service activities. The program included theoretical learning, group discussions, and hands-on practice in real situations, aiming to improve basic communication competencies in English. The results of this activity showed a significant improvement in the participants' English language skills, which improved the quality of public services in the village and increased the competitiveness of Pererenan Village as a tourist destination. This community service not only contributes to the development of human resources but also strengthens the relationship between the university and the local community and makes a tangible contribution to facing the challenges of globalization and advancing Pererenan Village on the international stage.

Abstract

Teaching and learning activities at SD Negeri 11 Dauh Puri Denpasar apart from focusing on academic activities, also carry out non-academic activities such as arts and sports. The implementation of non-academic activities is still considered less than optimal due to the lack of supporting human resources so that students have a lot of free time. With space to fill arts, culture and sports activities, the Japanese Literature Study Program PKM team carried out a program related to Japanese culture, namely the traditional Japanese martial art, Aikido. It is considered good to introduce Aikido to elementary school students because apart from having elements of martial arts, it also has elements of art and culture. Aikido is a type of self-defense with empty hand techniques in the form of locks, throws, attacks, defenses, defenses both in standing and sitting positions. Apart from that, there are also techniques for using weapons in the form of wooden swords, wooden sticks and wooden knives. Aikido, which is a martial arts sport, is important to introduce to students at SDN 11 Dauh Puri because apart from physical training, it is also mental training. The aim of this PKM activity is to fill students' free time on Saturdays with Aikido training for physical, mental training and introduction to foreign cultures. Aikido martial arts does not only emphasize physical attitude, but also a strong spirit to balance their academic and non-academic skills to continue their education at a higher level.

Abstract

This study investigates the declining interest in Tengklung Gobleg, a traditional martial art from Gobleg Village, Buleleng, Bali. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, field observations, documentation, and literature review. The analysis drew on perspectives from globalization, social identity theory, and related concepts. The findings indicate several contributing factors to the decline: limited socialization, lack of awareness among the younger generation, paternalistic cultural patterns, insufficient institutional support, and a growing preference for instant gratification among potential trainees. A key insight from this study is the shift in youth perception—Tengklung Gobleg is increasingly seen as outdated, while martial arts from outside Bali and Indonesia are viewed as more appealing and relevant. This reflects a broader cultural shift influenced by global exposure and changing social values.
