Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop scrapbook for teaching descriptive text. This research used Model of Development. It was undertaken to develop scrapbook for teaching descriptive text. To gain the purpose, it was needed a research approach that highlights an effort to produce the teaching writing media. Therefore, in designing the model, the researcher used Research and Development approach by adapting Borg and Gall Model. The subject of this research were students of SMA Sains Plus Tahfidz Qur’an Al Ammar at the grade XI in the academic year of 2022/2023. The researcher used two data collection techniques, they were descriptive qualitative data and quantitative data. Qualitative data and quantitative results were obtained from questionnaire validation expert, reviews of material expert and teaching media expert. The data was from the field trials obtained from the comments or responses, questionnaire result and test results. The instruments of data collection were gathered by administrating interview and distributing questionnaire to 22 respondents to get students’ needs. The mean of the questionnaire related to the materials appropriateness is 3.7. The mean value falls into “Good” category since it is in the interval 3.4 < x < 4.2. The result indicates that scrapbbok are appropriate for Grade XI of SMA students. The researcher used test to know the students’ writing skill achievement based on the media used and the test was done twice; pre-test and post-test; pre-test and post-test. Then, t-test was used to analyze the data. The result of the data above is the value of t-test was the value of t-test was higher t table (12,21 > 12,96) at the level significance 0.05 for two tailed and degree of freedom (df) = 22-2 = 20. It means that Scrapbook significantly affects the students’ writing skill achievement.

Abstract

through the implementation of the scramble learning model within a Classroom Action Research (CAR) framework. The research was motivated by students’ difficulties in spelling vocabulary correctly, interpreting word meanings, pronouncing vowels accurately, and constructing grammatically sound sentences. The scramble model was applied over two learning cycles, incorporating group-based word games that required students to rearrange jumbled letters into correct vocabulary and use them in sentence formation. The study involved 25 students, with a minimum mastery criterion of 76 and a classical completeness target of 80%. Results showed a significant improvement: classical completeness increased from 65.66% in cycle I to 87.5% in cycle II, and the average score rose from 76.25 to 86.54. Gains were observed across all vocabulary indicators—form, meaning, pronunciation, and usage. These findings align with previous studies indicating that the scramble model is effective for enhancing vocabulary acquisition in elementary education. Therefore, the scramble model is recommended as an engaging, practical, and contextually relevant strategy for vocabulary instruction in primary schools.

Abstract

This study examines fluency and accuracy in English speaking among Informatics and Civil Engineering students at Asahan University. Forty-five second-semester participants (25 Informatics, 20 Civil Engineering) completed structured speaking tasks and semi-structured interviews. Using the Complexity–Accuracy–Fluency (CAF) framework, performances were assessed for speech rate, pauses, grammatical control, and lexical appropriateness. Results show that communicative-oriented instruction enhanced fluency, producing smoother delivery and reduced hesitation, while grammar-focused instruction improved accuracy, yielding fewer errors and more precise lexical choices. Interviews revealed that communicative classes encouraged confidence and risk-taking, whereas grammar-focused classes increased metalinguistic awareness but reduced spontaneity. The findings highlight that fluency and accuracy are dynamically shaped by instructional emphasis. Balanced pedagogical approaches integrating meaning-focused interaction with attention to form are recommended to cultivate oral competence that is both communicatively effective and linguistically precise in Indonesian EFL contexts. This study examines fluency and accuracy in English speaking among Informatics and Civil Engineering students at Asahan University.
