Abstract

Return material authorization (RMA) is a process in which a company decides to repair or replace customer’s defect product during the warranty period. To execute RMA, both company and customer obliged to follow standard operating procedure (SOP) which usually consists of many business processes of a company well. As the business process could cause inefficiencies, a company should improve their business process regularly. The best way is using process discovery. This research proposes a new improved fuzzy miner algorithm to represent binary correlation between activities. This new algorithm utilizes binary significance and binary correlation equally to acquire fuzzy model. While the original fuzzy miner algorithm uses various binary correlation metrics, the improved fuzzy miner algorithm uses only one metric and could capture the fuzzy model, accurately based on the event logs to capture more accurate business process model. In this research, ProM fuzzy miner is used as a comparison to the proposed improved time-based fuzzy miner. The results showed that the improved algorithm has higher value on conformance checking and able to capture business process model based on time interval, by using only time-interval significance as a binary correlation metrics.

Abstract

Estimating the effort and cost of software is an important activity for software project managers. A poor estimate (overestimates or underestimates) will result in poor software project management. To handle this problem, many researchers have proposed various models for estimating software cost. Constructive Cost Model II (COCOMO II) is one of the best known and widely used models for estimating software costs. To estimate the cost of a software project, the COCOMO II model uses software size, cost drivers, scale factors as inputs. However, this model is still lacking in terms of accuracy. To improve the accuracy of COCOMO II model, this study examines the effect of the cost factor and scale factor in improving the accuracy of effort estimation. In this study, we initialized using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize the parameters in a model of COCOMO II. The method proposed is implemented using the Turkish Software Industry dataset which has 12 data items. The method can handle improper and uncertain inputs efficiently, as well as improves the reliability of software effort. The experiment results by MMRE were 34.1939%, indicating better high accuracy and significantly minimizing error 698.9461% and 104.876%.

Abstract

Similarity calculation between business process models has an important role in managing repository of business process model. One of its uses is to facilitate the searching process of models in the repository. Business process similarity is closely related to semantic string similarity. Semantic string similarity is usually performed by utilizing a lexical database such as WordNet to find the semantic meaning of the word. The activity name of the business process uses terms that specifically related to the business field. However, most of the terms in business domain are not available in WordNet. This case would decrease the semantic analysis quality of business process model. Therefore, this study would try to improve semantic analysis of business process model. We present a new lexical database called B-BabelNet. B-BabelNet is a lexical database built by using the same method in BabelNet. We attempt to map the Wikipedia page to WordNet database but only focus on the word related to the domain of business. Also, to enrich the vocabulary in the business domain, we also use terms in the business-specific online dictionary (businessdictionary.com). We utilize this database to do word sense disambiguation process on business process model activity’s terms. The result from this study shows that the database can increase the accuracy of the word sense disambiguation process especially in particular terms related to the business and industrial domains.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to discover an anomalous-free business process model from event logs. The process discovery was conducted using a graph database, specifically using Neo4J tool involving trace clustering and data filtering processes. We also developed a control-flow pattern to address, AND relation between activities named parallel business process. The result showed that the proposed method improved the precision value of the generated business process model from 0.64 to 0.81 compared to the existing algorithm. The better outcome is constructed by applying trace clustering and data filtering to remove the anomaly on the event log as well as discovering parallel (AND) relation between activities.

Abstract

Business processes are implemented in an organization. When a business process is run, it generates event log. One type of event log is double timestamp event log. Double timestamp has the start and complete time of each activity executed in the business process and has a close relationship with temporal pattern. In this paper, seven types of temporal pattern between activities were presented as extended version of relations used in the double timestamp event log. Since the event log was not always executed in sequential way, therefore using temporal pattern, event log was divided into several small groups to mine the business process both sequential and parallel. Both temporal pattern and Time-based α+ Miner algorithm were used to mine process model, determined sequential and parallel relations and then evaluated the process model using fitness value. This paper was focused on the advantages of temporal pattern implemented in Time-based α+ Miner algorithm to mine business process. The results also clearly stated that the proposed method could present better result rather than that of original α+ Miner algorithm.

Abstract

As a company engaged in the distribution of wireless devices, Return Material Authorization (RMA) is a mandatory service that must be owned by the company. RMA is a part of the process of returning a product to receive a refund, replacement, or repair during the product’s warranty period. The business process of RMA used functionally design, which is not considered to be effective in terms of time and cost for the company of 2880 minutes for IDR 348242. In this research, Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) was used to select the optimal traces; to optimize time and cost, the researcher used goal programming. This technique allows the creation of a controlled and orderly activity because the schedule and budget of a job are predetermined prior to the implementation. The optimization results show that the process time is reduced by 50% and the cost is reduced by almost 55% which show improvement on the performance of the business processes.
