Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc) is an important pathogenic fungus that causes Panama disease in banana. One approach to overcome this problem is to utilize secondary metabolites from Trichoderma sp. This research was conducted to determine the effect of administering secondary metabolites from Trichoderma sp. against pathogen Foc. These metabolites were applied at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%, 40% alongside a fungicide active ingredient of phosphoric acid 400 SL. This study used a Completely Randomized Design with 6 treatments 4 repetition. The parameters observed included colony diameter and percentage of inhibitory. The extraction of secondary metabolite isolation could be obtained as much as 500 ml with reddish brown, thick and odorless characteristics. Secondary metabolites showed a significant effect in inhibiting the growth of the pathogen Foc. The results showed the 10% concentration proved to be the most effective to inhibit pathogen Foc, resulting in the smallest colony diameter of 0.58 cm and an in vitro inhibition rate of 90.73%.

Abstract

Tomato farmers in Indonesia face challenges such as unpredictable weather conditions that can affect crop yields. Climatic stress, such as drought and heat, can have significant effects on plant growth. Plant Biostimulant have been shown to alleviate climatic stress in plants by modifying physiological processes and enhancing stress tolerance, ultimately improving crop growth and productivity. Recently, weed extract can serve as a biostimulant to improve growth and productivity of crops. This research aimed to determine the best concentration of weed extract-based biostimulant (WEBB) to increase tomato growth and production in dry season. The research was conducted on June to September 2024 in Tutul Village, Balung District, Jember Regency. The research used Randomized Block Design consisted of five levels of WEBB concentrations, i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 ppm. The concentration of WEBB at 1 ppm significantly increased early growth of stem and the number of leaves at 2 WAP by 16.39% and 39.02% respectively. The application of WEBB at 1–2 ppm also showed a significant increase in the number of fruits by 24.49% compared to control. This indicated that 1 ppm WEBB were effective in stimulating the early growth and fruit formation on tomato plant.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Shallots are a horticultural product needed by the Indonesian people, the production of shallots has decreased by 16.54%. The decline in production in 2018 was caused by extreme weather in the first quarter which resulted in a significant decrease in production. The purpose of the study was to determine the interaction between the use of varieties and the administration of ZPT at various concentrations on the growth and development of shallot plants. Methods: The experimental design used a randomized block design (RBD) with 2 factors, namely, the onion variety factor (V1: Bauji variety and V2: Blue Lancor variety) and the concentration of PGR (BAP and GA3) consisting of Z0: control (without PGR), Z1: BAP 50 ppm, Z2: GA3 150 ppm, Z3: BAP 50 ppm + GA3 150 ppm. Results: The results showed that the use of various varieties and concentrations of PGR did not affect the vegetative growth of Shallots. The use of various varieties has a significantly different effect on the generative development of shallot plants. The use of ZPT concentrations did not affect the generative development of plants. Two varieties, namely Bauji and Biru Lancor, were unable to influence the growth and development of shallots in the vegetative and generative phases because of the genetic characteristics of the plants whose function was to characterize each variety. Apart from genetic factors, this is thought to be caused by the degree of suitability of the variety to its environment. Conclusion: The Bauji variety is more suitable to be planted in the lowlands of Antirogo than the Blue Lancor variety.

Abstract

The Ngudi Kaweruh Farmer Group is one of the farmer groups in Tegal Rejo Hamlet, Sabrang Village, Ambulu Subdistrict, Jember Regency, which cultivates shallots. The obstacle complained about by this farmer group is the high price of inorganic pesticides in the field. Pesticides do not receive subsidies from the government, while in shallot farming, farmers cannot avoid the use of inorganic pesticides. Based on the problems faced by our partners, we provided an alternative solution, namely the use of Metarhizium as a biological agent to control red onion pests. The program was implemented from February to May 2025. The stages of implementation included surveys and discussions, socialization of the use of Metarhizium, and discussions and assistance. The results of the activity showed that the use of Metarhizium can save farmers' expenses for purchasing inorganic pesticides, control pests, and is environmentally friendly. Farmers can see the real impact of using Metarhizium in shallot cultivation. Therefore, farmers do not hesitate to use Metarhizium to control pests that attack shallots.
