Abstract

This research focuses on the perspective of indigenous ecologies to see how the Lembata people maintain and care for their relationship with nature. The research located in the Lebatukan District highlands area of Lembata Regency in East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. The Lo Tiwa ritual is carried out by the Lembata people when pests attack their crops. When snails were attacking rice plants, people realized that they could eradicate the slugs through modern ways. However, they also realized that with the pesticide technology, the life of snails was threatened with extinction, which is considered unwise in preserving the local environment. Instead, they raised this issue on the altar of the Lo Tiwa ritual. In this way, preserving the relationship between humans and nature has happened, which is an integral part of environmental studies. Snails as pests are not killed, and rice plants are free from pests. In the Indonesian context, this research finds its context in efforts to promote a culture where the government wants to place culture, including rituals, as one of the essential forces in development. Apart from rituals, other cultural promotion objects include; oral traditions, manuscripts, customs, folk games, traditional sports, traditional knowledge, arts, and languages.

Abstract

Poverty remains a major development challenge in Indonesia. This article aims to compare poverty measurement in Indonesia based on the poverty line established by the World Bank and the one used by the Indonesian government, in this case the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik – BPS). This study is a descriptive-comparative quantitative research. These discrepancies reflect variations in the methodology used by BPS compared with the methodology adopted by the World Bank. Additionally, there are differences in assessing sensitivity to minimum living standards in Indonesia and globally. The findings of this study highlight the importance of harmonizing poverty measurement and its implications for more inclusive and well-targeted social protection policies.

Abstract

This study examines the competitiveness of group-based enterprises in Desa Mandiri Anggur Merah in the Sumba Region, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Shift Share Analysis and the Location Quotient (LQ) method were applied to identify leading commodities among group enterprises. The findings indicate that the Sumba region has comparative advantages primarily in the livestock sector and food crop production. Livestock enterprise groups are predominantly concentrated in East Sumba, where cattle farming demonstrates high competitiveness, and Southwest Sumba, where pig farming emerges as the leading commodity. In 2012, East Sumba recorded the highest number of livestock groups (203 groups), followed by Southwest Sumba (94 groups), West Sumba (44 groups), and Central Sumba (22 groups). Based on empirical evidence and analytical results, a cluster-based development approach is proposed.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of knowledge management, work ability, and work attitude on employee performance and job satisfaction, as well as the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between these variables and employee performance at BPS NTT Province. A quantitative research design was employed, with data collected from 86 respondents through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques with the assistance of SmartPLS software. The findings indicate that work ability and work attitude have a significant positive effect on employee performance, whereas knowledge management does not directly influence employee performance. However, knowledge management, work ability, and work attitude each significantly affect job satisfaction. Furthermore, job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on employee performance and mediates the relationships between knowledge management, work ability, work attitude, and employee performance. These results highlight the critical role of job satisfaction in enhancing performance and underscore the importance of strengthening employees’ competencies and attitudes within public sector organizations. Abstract

This study investigates the business potential and micro-financial management practices within the Anggur Merah Self-Reliant Village Program, implemented in North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Utilizing a mixed-method analytical framework, the research applies Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift Share analysis to identify sectoral specialization and regional competitive advantage. These quantitative assessments are further supported by an evaluation of financial management systems adopted by community-based business entities. Findings reveal that multiple sectors exhibit strong localization (LQ > 1) and warrant strategic prioritization for local economic development. These include food crop agriculture, plantations, livestock, forestry, manufacturing, construction, as well as services related to dining, entertainment, and recreation.  The analysis also identifies substantial deficiencies in micro-financial governance. This research contributes to the literature by integrating regional economic analysis with micro-financial management in a context-specific empowerment framework. The results suggest that aligning financial governance mechanisms with sectoral strengths can significantly enhance the sustainability of village enterprises. Furthermore, maintaining fundamental financial oversight across less specialized sectors remains essential. The proposed model offers a contextually appropriate and practically applicable approach to strengthening the long-term efficacy of rural economic development initiatives.
