Abstract

This study examines the semantics of traditional names among the residents of Duwet Gentong Hamlet, Srimulyo Village, Piyungan District, Bantul Regency. Traditional names were chosen as the focus of the research because, in addition to serving as personal identifiers, they also carry specific meanings or symbolic significance. This is a qualitative descriptive study, with data collected through open documents, questionnaires, and interviews with individuals who have or understand traditional names. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach, supported by source triangulation for validity and both intrarater and interrater reliability checks. The findings reveal that traditional names consist of varying word counts—one, two, or three words—and appear in different linguistic forms, including monomorphemic, polymorphemic, and combinations thereof. Lexical, grammatical, and contextual meanings are used to understand the underlying reasons for name assignment. The basis for assigning traditional names includes elements of hope (such as prosperity, intelligence, love, kindness, strength, authority, beauty, wealth, happiness), religious markers, childhood names, mystical elements, historical references, natural objects, and names derived from wayang (Javanese shadow puppetry) characters.

The results in this research illustrate that the implementation of the HOTS category questions in the Javanese Language School Examination questions of SMA Kota Yogyakarta and Bantul Regency is distributed on the cognitive dimensions C4 (analysis) and C5 (evaluation). Meanwhile, the percentage of distribution of HOTS questions in the Javanese Language School Examination of Yogyakarta City High School amounted to 20% and Bantul Regency amounted to 16%. Abstract

The background of this study is based on the importance of improving the quality of learning in line with the demands of the 21st century, particularly in fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This study aims to explain the use of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based questions in the summative assessments ASAT (Javanese Language) for the 2022/2023 academic year and ASAS (Javanese Language) for the 2023/2024 academic year, as well as to compare the percentage of HOTS questions between the two. This type of research uses a qualitative approach with data sources consisting of ASAT and ASAS question sheets, analyzed using an interactive model involving data collection, data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The research data consists of multiple-choice and essay items. The results show that in both assessments, there are still some questions that do not fully meet HOTS criteria, and there are inaccuracies in the selection of Operational Verbs (KKO). However, in general, the stimuli used are educational, varied, inspiring, and contextual. The percentage of question levels shows that in ASAT, the distribution is 20% LOTS, 35.56% MOTS, and 44.44% HOTS; whereas in ASAS, the distribution is 8% LOTS, 38% MOTS, and 54% HOTS. The conclusion of this study is that the ASAS summative assessment questions show a higher tendency to implement HOTS-based questions compared to ASAT.

Abstract

The assessment of the quality of textbooks is important to be studied in order to measure their suitability to the needs of students and alignment with the curriculum. The Textbook "Ajar Basa Jawa (ABJ)" is a Javanese language subject book used for elementary school students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study uses a qualitative approach based on BNSP parameters and quantitatively based on the readability of the Fry test. The research method in this study is descriptive research. The research instruments consist of (1) the readability quality of the Fry Graph readability parameter and (2) the readability parameter instrument from BSNP. The BSNP parameter book quality instrument consists of the eligibility of (a) content, (b) language, (c) presentation, and (d) graphics. The validity of the data is obtained by the validity technique of diligent and accurate observation, repeated studies, and peer checking. Qualitative analysis with BSNP parameters and quantitative based on Fry Graph. The results (1) based on the Fry Graph analysis, the ABJ book for grade 4 elementary school does not meet the readability as a good grade 4 book. Based on BSNP parameters, the ABJ book is in the less category, and based on the fry test mapping it is more suitable for class 7. This is caused by (a) words with 3-4 syllables, (b) difficult words, (c) various typos/imprecisions by the author, (d) ambiguous words, and (e) sentences that are too long. The use of the Ajar Basa Jawa textbook needs to be aligned with the development of students and the applicable Javanese curriculum in elementary schools.
