Abstract

The Dasawisma Mawar Group in Balung Lor Village, Balung District, Jember Regency consists of non-productive mothers. The problems faced by partners include (i) activities in Dasawiswa Mawar are only in the form of social gatherings, never filled with activities that increase member empowerment, (ii) Waste processing has not been carried out at the household scale. Domestic waste processing by residents is still carried out by collecting temporary waste to be collected by cleaning staff, but most still have the habit of throwing waste into the river and burning waste. This community service activity aims to improve partners' environmental literacy, including increasing environmental insight, providing training to improve partners' skills, and initiating the habit of independent waste management at the household level as a form of environmental responsibility. The methods used include (i) a preparatory stage consisting of coordination with partners and observation of the partner's environment, (ii) an implementation stage consisting of providing waste materials and domestic waste processing practices, and (iii) monitoring and evaluation to determine the achievement of the activity. The activity was carried out from August to October 2022. Participants were 35 members of Dasawisma Mawar. The domestic waste processing practices carried out include processing onion skin waste into fertilizer, used cooking oil waste into aromatherapy candles and soap, mask waste into succulent flower pots, used plastic into planter bags. The results of descriptive analysis of the collected questionnaires show that all participants felt the benefits of this activity, knew the implementation of 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) and received training on domestic waste processing. This activity is expected to be an initiation of independent waste management habits at the household scale so that it contributes to reducing waste generation in the environment.

Abstract

The southern coast of Trenggalek District is prone to tsunami disasters, because it is located north of the megathrust zone. This study aims to map the level of tsunami inundation risk in The Trenggalek District, especially of the coast of Watulimo Subdistrict. This mapping was done with the help of Model Builder in ArcGIS software, using scenarios of tsunami wave heights on the shore of 1 m, 2 m, 5 m, 15 m, 27 m, and 30 m. The risk map of tsunami inundation was obtained by combining the tsunami hazard map with the vulnerability map. The study results show that the area of tsunami inundation at a high-altitude scenario with wave heights of 1 m has low, medium, and high-risk levels covering 0.254 km², 0.240 km², and 0.032 km², respectively. In the 27 m scenario, which is the worst-case scenario according to Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the areas of inundation at low, medium, and high-risk levels reach 23.032 km², 16.471 km², and 7.904 km², respectively. In this 27 m scenario, four villages in Watulimo Subdistrict are almost entirely inundated by the tsunami. The results of this study are expected to be used as the material for tsunami disaster mitigation in the Trenggalek District.
