Abstract

Abstract

A severe flood hit South Kalimantan in 2021. The flood inundated several cities and regions, including Banjamasin City and its surrounding areas in the Martapura Basin. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), over 20,000 houses were flooded, and over 100,000 people were forced to relocate. Many flood causes are being debated these days, including climate change issues which are triggered by many factors. However, the significant factor indicating its existence is the increase in temperatures. Rising temperature will result in the intensity of the extreme rainfall and the change of its pattern. Due to this background, this study aims to evaluate rainfall and temperature variability as an indicator of climate change in the study area. The Man-Kendall Test is used in this study to analyze a trend analysis and its relationship to rainfall. The results show a temperature trend of 0.2 to 0.3 degrees Celsius over the last two decades. It indicates that climate change has occurred on a local scale. Further, the trend of rainfall and temperature have increased in all selected locations. The annual rainfall over the last 20 years has also increased by roughly 25 mm per annum.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In the context of residential development, safety and security in construction are essential components of the lifestyle of individuals. The geographical condition of Balikpapan, which is susceptible to natural disasters such as landslides, floods, and fires, presents additional obstacles to the provision of safe and secure housing infrastructure. An example of this is the landslide disaster that happened in Karang Joang Village in 2021, which was caused by a lack of awareness regarding the safety and security of residential construction. The resulting damage to numerous houses in the village was significant. This paper tries to examine the practical implementation of construction safety standards in residential homes, including the use of safe building techniques and appropriate materials, through community service activities. This program provided the community with a more comprehensive understanding of disaster risk management and enhanced their ability to take proactive and reactive measures in the event of an emergency. The results of the questionnaire distribution shows that there was a significant difference in the level of community knowledge. In terms of construction design knowledge, more than 50% (from 3 people to 13 people) of residents answered that they already knew the safe construction design after listening to the community service presentation. The same result also occurred in the knowledge of methods, more than 50% (from 3 people to 11 people) of respondents have known the right construction method for their area after attending this community service presentation.

Abstract

Coastline's change was caused by the movement of sediments influenced by waves, wind, and materials around the shore. The movement of sediments around the coast resulted coastal dynamics marked by abrasion and Erosion. In the Balikpapan region, especially on the East Balikpapan Coast near the Makassar Strait, causing high waves on the beaches in this area, one of the areas that was once affected was Manggar Baru Beach, where there was a settlement less than 10 meters from the shoreline. With the changes in the coastline, it could lead to floods, changes in the area, damage to facilities around the coast, and so on. This study is modeled with the help of an application to understand the characteristics of the coastline to get trends in the present and projected future changes for disaster mitigation. It was also found that the average changes in 2024 were 0.829 m/year, in 2027 were 1.984 m/year, in 2032 were 3.982 m/year, and in 2042 were 7.689 m/year. Changes that occurred in Manggar Baru Beach were predominantly experiencing Erosion every year.

Abstract

Beaches often experience erosion or abrasion problems caused by various factors, such as climate change which triggers rising sea levels, high waves, human activities such as beach reclamation, and infrastructure construction that is not environmentally friendly, triggering erosion on the coast. In the coastal area of the city that supports IKN, which is located in the Balikpapan area, Manggar Beach, also experiences abrasion which causes land to narrow in that area. The abrasion that occurs erodes the coastal area around 7-8 meters every year. To produce environmentally friendly infrastructure, this research carried out the addition of coconut fiber waste components to tetrapod concrete used for breakwater construction. In this research, variations in the addition of coir used were 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%. The aim was to find out how much influence the addition of coconut coir waste to the concrete mixture had on the compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength of the concrete in tetrapods. and produce concrete that uses coconut fiber waste as an alternative material for tetrapod concrete as breakwater armor. Based on the analysis results, the quality of the concrete was 23 Mpa. This value was determined based on wave generation analysis. In addition, it is known that variations in coconut fiber affect the slump, compressive strength, flexural and split tensile test values of concrete. Based on the slump test results, it was found that the greater the variation of coconut fiber in the concrete, the lower the resulting slump test value. In testing the compressive, flexural and split tensile strength, it was found that the optimal composition for adding coconut fiber was 3%, in this composition the amount of coconut fiber fiber was able to improve the mechanical properties of tetrapod concrete compared to other compositions.
