Abstract

The research about adsorption of Rhodamine B dye by active carbon from Durian shell has been done. The active carbon gained from carbonation process which is shell of Durian put into furnace at 350 oC during 2 hours, and then being cold and sieved with 100 mesh sieves. Next process was calcinations at 450 oC C flowed by N2 gases for 2 hours then characterized with XRD spectrophotometer. Activation process is done through submerge of carbon in 3 M of KOH solution for 15 hours and dried in oven at 110 oC for 1 hour, then characterized with XRD. After that, adsorption process toward Rhodamine B dye and the result was tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results show that optimum condition from active carbon was at adsorbent weight of 0.6 g with contact time 100 minutes at pH 3.0 for adsorbs Rhodamine B concentration of 50 ppm. Adsorption of Rhodamine B dye fitted Freundlich isotherm with correlation coefficient (R2), K and n value were 97.3 %, 21.542 mg/g, and 0.405 respectively.

Abstract

The research of utilitasion of beef tallow into biodiesel with heterogenous (CaO) catalyst has been conducted. Biodiesel production initially by esterification reaction with catalyst H2SO4 1% (toward oil and methanol weight) with molar ratio oil : methanol (1:9). After esterification process, trygliceride separated from methanol and continued by transesterification step with molar ratio 1:12 (oils and methanol) and CaO catalyst 11% wt. Esterification and transesterification process carried out for 2 hours and 6 hours respectively at 65 ℃. Composition of the biodiesel was analyzed by 1HNMR, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and their physical properties analyzed by ASTM method. Result of biodiesel conversion is 93.99% while based on GC-MS analysis showed that mayor component of biodiesel were mixture of methyl esters with methyl octadecanoat as the major coumpound (40.65%). Based on data from ASTM, biodiesel produced from beef tallow have qualified as diesel fuel.

Abstract

Computational calculation has been done for anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives. The computational calculation was conduct to know the compound potential of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives as active material on organic solar cell. Computational calculation was done by used Gaussian 03 for windows with ab inito alternative electron structure theory namely Density Functional Theory (DFT) with B3LYP method at basis set 6-31G (d). Computational calculation obtains that the structure of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives were symmetrical. There were two compounds of anthocyanin (A1 and A5) and two compounds of tocoferol (T3 and T4) which more stable than the others compounds. The compounds had lowest energy gap were consist of A1= 0.12629 eV, A5= 0.12570 eV, T3= 0.19334 eV and T4= 0.19231 eV. The moment dipole from compound of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives had highest value, they were A1 and T1 while the total energy had lowest value they A2 and T1. The Substituent methoxy and hydroxy were added the density load of C atom was substituted so it would increase the activity of the phenyl ring on anthocyanin and they derivatives, while substituent methyl and hydroxy were added the density load of C atom was substituted so it was increase the activity of the phenyl ring on tocoferol and they derivatives. For compounds of anthocyanin main orbital populations showed that there were load transfer only from middle chain (ether) and compounds of tocoferol main orbital populations showed that there was load transfer only from phenyl ring. The method of density functional B3LYP/6-31G(d) would be applied to structure prediction and electronic characteristic of anthocyanin, tocoferol compounds and they derivatives before synthetic.

Abstract

Community service is an integral part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, playing a crucial role in the development of knowledge and the improvement of societal well-being. As a tangible manifestation of this responsibility, the faculty members of the Chemistry Department at FMIPA, Universitas Pattimura, conducted a community service program titled "Introduction to Basic Chemistry" at SMA Negeri 42 Maluku Tengah. This program aimed to enhance students' interest and understanding of chemistry through interactive and educational approaches. The methods employed included the dissemination of information about the Chemistry Department, the introduction of basic chemistry concepts, interactive discussions, and a survey of students' interest before and after the program. The results showed a significant increase in students' interest in chemistry, with the most substantial growth observed in their interest in further exploring and pursuing studies in the field. Positive feedback from students and accompanying teachers affirmed the effectiveness of the approach used. In conclusion, this community service program successfully achieved its primary objectives and contributed positively to strengthening scientific literacy among students. Abstract

Maluku memiliki banyak potensi sumber daya alam khususnya dalam bidang pertanian seperti tanaman perkebunan. Salah satu tanaman perkebunan palawija yang memiliki arti strategi bagi bangsa Indonesia adalah kelapa (Cocos Nucifera L.). Masyarakat Maluku selama ini komoditas kelapa baru sebatas dimanfaatkan pada produk primernya saja dalam bentuk kelapa segar maupun kopra untuk bahan baku minyak goreng. Hasil samping dan limbah belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal, sehingga belum dapat dihasilkan nilai tambah yang berarti secara ekonomi. Oleh karena itu, sebagai bentuk implementasi dari tugas Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi dalam bidang pengabdian, maka jurusan Kimia FMIPA Unpatti tergerak untuk memberikan penyuluhan dan pendampingan kepada masyarakat desa Morella dalam pengembangan pengolahan limbah air kelapa menjadi Nata de Coco sehingga dapat memberikan manfaat dari segi perekonomian terhadap masyarakat desa. Pemanfaatan limbah air kelapa dilakukan dengan menambahkan mikroba acetobacter xylinum yang berfungsi sebagai starter pembentukan nata de coco. Pembuatan nata de coco dari air kelapa menjadi bahan tambahan pengetahuan dan informasi yang nantinya dapat dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat desa Morella untuk mengahsilkan produk bernilai ekonomi.

Abstract

Kegiatan sains memungkinkan siswa melakukan eksplorasi terhadap berbagai benda yang ada di sekitarnya. Sains juga dapat melatih siswa menggunakan inderanya untuk mengenal berbagai gejala benda dan peristiwa. Melalui proses sains, siswa dapat melakukan percobaan yang sederhana dan kreatif. Dari percobaan sederhana tersebut, siswa dilatih untuk menghubungkan sebab dan akibat dari suatu perlakuan sehingga dapat melatih berpikir logis dan saintifik. Berdasrkan latar belakang ini, diharapkan ada kegiatan yang dapat dilakukan untuk menumbuhkan rasa cinta siswa terhadap sains. Kegiatan tersebut dapat terealisasi melalui ekperimen sains sederhana. Jurusan kimia Fakultas MIPA Universitas Pattimura, mendedikasikan pengabdian masyrakat melaluieksperimen sains sederhana dengan judul” Belajar Redoks Melalui Demo Sains Sederhana Di SMA Negeri 14 Ambon. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan di SMA Negeri 14 Ambon yang beralamat Passo, diharapkan dapat menumbuhkan rasa suka dan cinta terhadap sains sehingga siswa dapat memahami teori melalui demo sains yang dilakukan. Melalui demo sains tentang materi redoks siswa akan dengan mudah mengetahui reaksi redoks sederhana yang terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari seperti: proses pencoklatan buah, proses fotosintesis, reaksi perkaratan (korosi) dan lain sebagainya.

Abstract

This study aims to test the antioxidant activity of secondary metabolite compounds contained in paliasa (Kleinhovia hospita Linn) stem bark extract. This plant is traditionally known to have health benefits, but research on the antioxidant activity of its stem bark is still limited. Extraction was done using a maceration method using a methanol solvent, followed by liquid-liquid fractionation using n-hexane and ethyl acetate to separate compounds based on their polarity. Phytochemical screening showed that the n-hexane fraction contained alkaloids and terpenoids, while the ethyl acetate fraction contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The antioxidant activity of both fractions was tested using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method with absorbance measurements at a wavelength of 517 nm. The test results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction had an IC50 value of 51.7687 ppm, while the n-hexane fraction had an IC50 value of 60.5442 ppm. Based on the classification of antioxidant activity, both fractions are categorized as strong antioxidants (IC50 between 50-100 ppm). For comparison, vitamin C has an IC50 value of 14.3421 ppm, indicating strong antioxidant activity. The results of this study indicate that paliasa bark extract, especially the ethyl acetate fraction, has the potential as a source of natural antioxidants that can be further developed in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries as an alternative to synthetic antioxidants with toxicity risks.

Abstract

Soft coral Isis sp. is a type of soft coral that contains many chemical compounds with various benefits that have not been widely studied. This study aims to identify and isolate secondary metabolite compounds contained in the ethyl acetate extract fraction of Isis sp. soft coral, determine of antimicrobial activity, and molecular docking study. Compound separation was carried out by maceration followed by fractionation using Liquid Vacuum Chromatography (LVC). The fractions obtained were identified by Liquid Chromatography Tandem-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technique. Four compounds were successfully identified through LC-MS/MS analysis namely Deoxyadenosine (C10H13N5O3), Spinasterol (C29H48O), Pseudoionone (C11H16O) and Isosalsoline (C11H15NO2). Antimicrobial activity test was conducted against Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. The results of the antimicrobial activity test showed strong activity against S.aureus bacteria and E. coli bacteria with the same MIC value of 2 µg/mL. Based on molecular docking analysis can be predicted that compounds isolated from soft coral Isis sp., namely pseudoinone compounds have a role as anti-bacterial S. aureus (PDB: 6KVS). This compound also shows a strong ability as an anti- gram positive bacteria than gram negative. Isosalsoline compounds have a role as anti-bacterial E. coli (PDB: 5BNM). This compound also shows a strong ability as an anti-gram negative bacteria rather than gram positive.

Abstract

Kimia merupakan salah satu bagian dari pelajaran IPA di tingkat SMP yang mempelajari fenomena alam. Fenomena alam yang dibahas di tingkat SMP adalah Materi dan perubahannya. Di dalam materi dan perubahannya, ada bagian mengenai wujud zat. Untuk wujud zat hanya sebatas kasat mata, untuk bentuk molekul di dalam zat tersebut belum diperkenalkan. Perlu adanya pengenalan kepada para siswa SMP bagaimana bentuk molekul yang sebenarnya. Pengenalan bentuk molekul dapat dilakukan dengan melakukan dengan bantuan perangkat lunak seperti Avogadro. Avogadro dapat memberikan tampilan bentuk molekul sebenarnya dari suatu zat yang ada di lingkungan sekitar. Pelatihan penggunaan Avogadro dalam pengenalan bentuk molekul sederhana telah dilakukan pada SMP Negeri 27 Maluku tengah. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai bentuk molekul dari suatu zat yang ada di lingkungan sekitar, misalnya air, cuka, dan minyak. Pelatihan ini dilakukan dengan metode ceramah dan demonstrasi. Ceramah dilakukan oleh ketua tim dan dibantu oleh anggota tim. Ceramah dilakukan dengan pengantar pengenalan materi dan perubahannya diikuti dengan penjelasan tentang bentuk molekul dari zat yang ada dilingkungan sekitar. Demonstrasi dilakukan setelah ceramah dilakukan dengan menunjukkan cara mengunduh dan menginstal software avogadro serta cara menggambar molekul dengan software Avogadro. Hasil dari pelatihan ini diperoleh bahwa para peserta pelatihan (siswa-siswi SMP Negeri 27 Maluku Tengah) dapat mengerti tentang materi, atom, molekul dan bentuk molekul serta dapat menjalankan software Avogadro untuk menggambar bentuk molekul sederhana seperti air, cuka, dan minyak.

Abstract

The Internet of Things concept is based on expanding the use and benefits of the internet by embedding controllers and sensors that can connect and share data continuously. A Smart Home prototype that can control door locks, lights and electrical pathways with easy control access. In this design, the device that will be used is an IoT-based controller, namely nodeMCU with connected actuators, namely servo motors, relays, and an IR sensor. The method used is to press a button on the web page and the system will respond to the request from the web page and convert it into an action, namely locking the door, or cutting off the electricity. To access it globally, by opening port forwarding on the router you can then access the web page of the smart home system prototype via the connected IP address so that the system can be controlled via the internet. With this system, it is hoped that users can increase time efficiency.
