Abstract

Foreign language learning with local culture contents began from the importance of the representation of the roots of the nation in foreign language. Foreign language learning strategies which mediate local cultures and cultural values existed in a foreign language generate a global perspective on foreign cultures, not only on the articulation of local messages to foreign languages, but also it compares how the local values are relevant to the values of other nations. Eventually, learners realize that by understanding themselves, they will be able to appreciate the wisdom of other nations. French culture which was compared to Javanese cultures in this article proved the statement above.

Abstract

This writing aims to reveal that behind women’s weakness and tenderness there is an invisible power that can overturn men’s domination. While care seems more effective to get women’s love and respect, men tend to rely on domination. This, in fact, does not always work. Semiotic is a kind of analysis used to uncover the meaning of signs in a text. In literature this analysis serves to show different types of meaning. In this novel, there is a couple - Jerome and Monica, and their friend - Stanislas. Jerome dominates and excels in everything. He spends time hunting wild animals and doing man’s other sports. Monica is a housewife who is thirsty of her husband’s attention. She makes an affair with Stanislas, her husband’s friend. One day Jerome takes Monica, Stanislas and another woman to deer-hunting. Later he finds out that there is something between her wife and Stanislas. Driven by jealousy, he decides to kill them both. The writer used semiotic analysis because there are many signs of syntagmatic and paradigmatic meanings to discover. Key words: sémiotique, littérature

Abstract

his study aims to (1) develop learning models of happiness in learning French through literary works, and (2) to describe the application of learning models of happiness in learning French through literary works. The study applied a qualitative approach with two designs in exploratory research (1) to produce a learning model of happiness and (2) action research to evaluate the implementation of the learning model in the field. Data collection techniques are conducted through (1) in-depth interviews with French experts, (2) literary experts; and (3) psychologists to gain an important point of learning happiness. Then from the results of in-depth interview was compiled draft learning model of happiness through focus group discussion This research was conducted at Universitas Negeri Semarang, with research time from March to October 2017.The results of this research are the model of happiness teaching with ASSURE model which includes analyzing the students, formulating specific learning objectives, choosing methods, media, and teaching materials, utilizing media and teaching materials, requesting student response, and evaluation.
