Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Technical Guidance Activities (BIMTEK) aim to provide prospective farmers with knowledge about the management of raising KUB chickens, and the related aspects to raising KUB chickens. The activity was carried out in collaboration with various parties, including: West Nusa Tenggara Agricultural Instrument Standards Implementation Center (BPSIP), Central Lombok Agriculture Service, Mataram University Faculty of Animal Science, and the KUB Chicken Farmer Groups which were spread across all villages in Central Lombok. BIMTEK activities were carried out in the West Praya office hall, Central Lombok, from 8.30 to 13.00 Central Indonesian Time. The implementation of BIMTEK used short talk and discussion methods. Activities went smoothly as planned. Thus it can be concluded that BIMTEK activities can provide additional insight to all participants about the KUB chicken management system. In order for the understanding of raising KUB chickens to be fully understood, intensive assistance needs to be provided once the project has started.

Abstract

The supply of organic agricultural products is relatively less than non-organic products. This reason was the basis for this coaching activity to be carried out. The coaching activities has been carried out continuously since 2013. The program started with conducting research on alternative feed ingredients at the targeted location. The following programs were the down streaming of research results at the research location. The next coaching activity was efforts on improving the housing system, housing environment, post-harvest processing by introducing natural feed stuff using green algae, packaging and marketing. Some of the eggs produced were marketed to outside groups and some were processed into salted eggs and labeled with the name "Monggelemong Organic Salted Eggs". Some of the salted eggs were marketed directly as Souvenirs at outlets located on Jalan Prabu Rangka Sari Dasan Cermen Mataram, and at Lotte Mart Supermarket Cakranegara, and the rest were marketed outside the region (Bali and Java)

Abstract

One of the factors that affect egg quality is the rearing system. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of fresh local duck eggs obtained from members of the Karya Mandiri Duck Farmers Group. Egg collection was carried out in turns for 5 days from 5 farmers who had ducks in the egg-laying phase. Each farmer was randomly taken 10% of the total egg production, so that 105 eggs were collected. The external and internal quality of the sample eggs were then measured at the Animal Product Processing Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram. The results of the study found that the internal quality of the fresh duck eggs observed was classified as very good, but the external quality of 50% was classified as low. The local duck eggs from Lombok, produced by the Karya Mandiri Duck Farmers Group, are mostly of high quality, with 50% classified as grade AA. It is recommended to improve the housing system to further enhance quality.

Abstract

This monitoring activity was conducted to assess the progress of the community empowerment program over its initial six-month period. The evaluation took place on June 30, 2024, focusing on several key aspects: the condition and design of the cattle enclosure system, feed management, the health and productivity of the livestock, and the performance of the program’s beneficiaries—members of the Barokah Farmer Group. Findings revealed that the livestock were housed in a communal pen made of bamboo with compacted earth flooring. However, the pen was found to be narrow, poorly maintained, and had a roof that was too low. The cattle were fed solely with fresh field grass, without any additional concentrates or supplements. Of the nine cattle observed, eight were in good health, while one showed signs of infection in the left hind leg. Among the eight females, seven were pregnant and one was suspected to be sterile. Despite the structural and feeding challenges, members of the Barokah Farmer Group demonstrated strong motivation and cooperative spirit, indicating promising social dynamics and commitment to the program's goals.

Abstract

This activity aims to evaluate the development of the pioneering project of egg-laying chicken farming in Keramajaya Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. This project is part of the Matching Grant program which is a collaboration between Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta and Mataram University. Monitoring activities are carried out through direct evaluation of the condition of the cage, feeding system and provision, livestock development, and egg production. Data collection is carried out through structured interviews with group members using interview guides, as well as direct observation at the farm location. In addition, socio-institutional aspects are also studied, which include: (1) member participation, (2) group performance, and (3) business sustainability. The evaluation results show that the egg-laying chicken farming business is running well. All group members show solidarity and togetherness, especially in decision-making related to business direction. During the two years of project implementation, the chicken population increased from 150 to 440, which was obtained from the profits from the sale of eggs and culled chickens. It is concluded that the pioneering project of egg-laying chicken farming in Keramajaya Village has good prospects and has the potential to develop into an independent and sustainable group farming business.
