Abstract

This study aims to synthesize scientific findings related to the role of older adults as primary caregivers and its impact on the digital behavior of Generation Alpha children and adolescents. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study analyzed 15 relevant scientific articles published in the last ten years. The results of the analysis show that the elderly (grandparents) play a crucial role as mediators of their grandchildren's digital media use. However, the effectiveness of this mediating role is significantly hampered by the elderly's limited digital literacy and psychological pressures. This skills gap leads to inconsistent screen regulation, which significantly increases the risk of problematic digital behavior in grandchildren. Furthermore, it was identified that the long-term impact of elderly caregiving on grandchildren's digital addiction is mediated by their psychosocial vulnerability as they enter adulthood, namely social anxiety and loneliness. The conclusions of this study emphasize the need for structured interventions in the form of age-sensitive digital literacy education for the elderly, as well as policies that support collaborative intergenerational caregiving to shape healthy digital behavior in Generation Alpha.

Abstract

Instagram, as a social media platform, has been associated with increased levels of FOMO due to its emphasis on sharing personal experiences and achievements. Additionally, research shows that FOMO can lead to excessive engagement with Instagram, including constantly checking for updates, obsessively scrolling through feeds, and feeling anxious or irritable when unable to access the platform. This excessive use can lead to negative consequences such as decreased productivity, poor sleep quality, and difficulty forming and maintaining relationships. This study explores the mitigative role of education against the backdrop of increasing social media addiction and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among adolescents in Jakarta. Employing a mixed-methods approach with quantitative surveys among 211 adolescents aged 11-24, it assesses the correlation between FOMO and addiction levels, alongside evaluating digital literacy and mental health awareness programs. Results reveal a significant positive correlation between FOMO and social media addiction, with educational interventions showing promise in fostering responsible social media use. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating digital literacy into educational curricula to equip adolescents with the necessary skills to navigate the digital landscape healthily. Its novelty lies in highlighting educational strategies within a social context as effective tools for combating the psychological impacts of social media, offering a significant contribution to the discourse on digital well-being among the youth.

Abstract

Background: Mate selection preferences is an evaluation process that aims to find a partner who is considered potential for someone. This study was inspired by Buss and Barnes' study regarding mate selection preferences, as well as Hinkin, Tracey, and Enz's study regarding the seven stages of scale development and analysis; to investigate Indonesians’ mate selection preferences. Research objectives: This study was considered as a replication research for Indonesia context to verify the prior results’ consistency and accuracy of research on mate selection preferences inspired by Buss and Barnes as well as to develop an instrument of mate selection preferences for Indonesians. Research methods: This study used three stages --out of seven stages-- of scale development and analysis by Hinkin, Tracey, and Enz as an early investigation. The first stage is item generation using a qualitative approach with a total of 47 participants aged over 17 years were divided into four focus groups as data collection method and thematic analysis as its analysis method. The second stage is content adequacy assessment using quantitative approach with eleven experts to assess generated items from the first stage. The eleven experts consisted of measurement experts, psychometricians, psychologists, developmental and family psychology lecturers or scientists. The third stage is questionnaire administration for determining the scale for items and an adequate sample size. The questionnaires using rank order scale were distributed online for 423 respondents.  Research findings: The finding of the first stage was 33 themes of mate selection preferences, including same religion, ethnicity consideration, family blessing, attractive physical appearance, mentally and physically healthy, as item generation. The result from the second stage was the validation from experts, resulted in 22 characteristics with a validation range of 0.345 – 0.831 and a good category of reliability of 0.898. The result from the third stage was the order of preference for choosing a partner, was obtained by placing the characteristic of same religion as the first order. Research conclusions: The results of the first three stages in this research can be used as a starting point to understand how Indonesians select partners who are influenced by characteristics of same religion, cultural or ethnicity considerations, and family blessing. The same religion was ranked first in the order of mate selection preferences. This study then should be continued to the next four stages of instrument development in order to create a final scale of Indonesians’ mate selection preferences. Research novelty: The unveiling of Indonesians mate selection preferences as an early investigation introduces the “richness” and the wisdom of Indonesian cultures in marriage as well as appreciation and understanding of how marriages in Indonesia are bound by religions, cultures or ethnicity, and family values. It also informs the complexity of how to find an ideal partner. However, this study is practically can be used to non-formally educate Indonesian people as well as foreigners to understand how Indonesians select partners.

Abstract

The rising phenomenon of online gambling in Indonesia has created significant psychological impacts on wives as part of the family system affected by digital addictive behavior. This study aims to identify the forms of psychological distress and coping strategies used by wives in dealing with their husbands’ involvement in online gambling through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Article searches were conducted in Scopus and Google Scholar databases for publications from 2019 to 2025 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, resulting in 15 eligible studies analyzed through thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that wives experience multidimensional psychological distress, including financial anxiety, emotional exhaustion, helplessness, secondary trauma, and relational insecurity. The coping strategies identified include problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, avoidance coping, and spiritual-religious coping, with their effectiveness strongly influenced by social support, coping flexibility, and the patriarchal cultural context. Furthermore, previous studies show limitations in comprehensively integrating psychosocial aspects within the Indonesian cultural setting. These findings highlight the importance of culturally and gender-sensitive family-based psychological interventions to strengthen the psychological resilience of wives affected by their husbands’ online gambling behavior.

Abstract

This study explores key factors influencing adolescent happiness through a narrative literature review. Adolescence is a vulnerable phase marked by significant biological, psychological, and social transitions, making happiness a vital component for long-term well-being and healthy development. The review analyzed 20 peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2025. Findings indicate that adolescent happiness is shaped by three main domains: (1) individual psychological factors such as emotion regulation, gratitude, optimism, religiosity, self-acceptance, self-esteem, character strengths, help-seeking behavior, and emotional intelligence; (2) social and relational factors, particularly the quality of relationships with parents and peers; and (3) lifestyle factors, including sleep quality, physical activity, and patterns of social media use. In addition, several barriers were identified, such as academic stress, interpersonal difficulties, and unhealthy daily habits. These findings suggest the importance of integrated intervention strategies that address internal psychological skills, enhance interpersonal relationships, and promote healthy lifestyle choices. The study contributes to the field by synthesizing recent literature across various contexts, offering a conceptual basis for the development of more targeted, evidence-based programs aimed at improving adolescent happiness.

Abstract

In our fast-paced and distracted modern lives, simple moments of aesthetic significance are often overlooked, even though everyday beauty has significant potential to strengthen individuals' psychological well-being. This study aims to examine how appreciation of everyday beauty contributes to the restoration and strengthening of mental health. Using a literature review approach, 27 national and international scientific articles published from 2015-2025 were thematically analyzed from various databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, and Scopus. The studies covered the themes of aesthetic experience, positive emotions, self-reflection, psychological resilience, and meaning-making in everyday contexts. The results show that appreciation of everyday beauty - whether in the form of nature, art, moral actions, specific achievements or accomplishments, or social relationships - contributes to increased positive affect, gratitude, meaning in life, and emotional flexibility. In addition, aesthetic experience-based interventions such as beauty journaling and narrative reflection were found to be effective in increasing happiness and reducing stress symptoms. These findings confirm that Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence (ABE) is a relevant character strength as a humanistic, low-cost, inclusive, and contextualized psychological recovery mechanism, and can be an important foundation for the development of promotive strategies in the mental health of Indonesians.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage marked by emotional volatility and identity exploration. However, not all adolescents navigate this phase successfully many exhibit risky behaviors categorized as juvenile delinquency. This literature review aims to examine the role of self-control in adolescent delinquency by exploring the types of delinquent behaviors associated with low self-control, identifying environmental factors that influence self-control, and analyzing the educational and psychosocial implications of these findings. Using articles published between 2020 and 2025 sourced from Google Scholar, Scopus, and EBSCO, a total of 11 relevant studies were reviewed. The analysis revealed that low self-control significantly contributes to aggressive behavior, substance abuse, cyberbullying, and sexual offenses among youth. Furthermore, external factors such as permissive parenting, deviant peer influence, and punitive school discipline were found to weaken self-control, whereas consistent parental attachment and supportive school environments can strengthen it. This review highlights the need for integrated interventions involving family, schools, and community support systems to enhance adolescents' self-control capacities and reduce delinquent behaviors. These findings support the theoretical framework of self-control theory while emphasizing the interplay between individual psychological traits and environmental contexts.

Abstract

Intercultural marriage has become increasingly common in the era of globalization; however, cultural differences between partners introduce complex challenges in maintaining marital well-being. This literature review aims to explore the concept of marital flourishing within the context of intercultural couples and the psychological factors that support it. Using a narrative literature review method, the study analyzed 12 relevant articles published between 2015– 2025 that focus on the psychological aspects of intercultural marriage. The findings reveal that marital flourishing is influenced by a combination of internal factors (such as self-compassion, mindfulness, and life management skills), effective communication, communal values, religiosity, and social support. Cultural differences necessitate ongoing adaptation and cultural negotiation. This study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and culturally sensitive interventions to support intercultural couples in building a healthy and fulfilling marriage.
