Abstract

This study aims to analyze the risk factors on calsium, iron and zinc adequacy level in adolescent males age 13—18 years. A cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data of Riskesdas 2010, with male adolescent age 13—18 years as study sample. Data on food intakes were collected with 24-hour recall method and further converted into nutrients intakes (Ca, Fe, Zn) using Food Composition Table. Nutrient adequacy level of each nutrient was calculated using Recommended Dietary Allowance. Based on the analysis of data, the prevalence of calsium and zinc deficiency in male adolescent age 13—18 years in Indonesia is still very high, 72.8% and 68.6% respectively. The prevalence of iron deficiency is still high at 51.9%. Age, father’s education, economic status and area residence are shown to affect (p<0.05) the level of adequacy of calcium, iron and zinc in adolescent malesage 13—18 years, while the level of mother’s education, father’s occupation and mother’s occupation do not.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus, increased blood glucose or hyperglycemia, is associated with increased oxidative stress and cardiovascular diseases. This condition will further cause carbohydrate and fat metabolism change, resulting in the decreased antioxidant defense system. Black rice, red beans, and moringa leaves contain oleic acid, butyric amino acid, antioxidants, phytic acid, and arginine, which can improve insulin sensitivity, and blood glucose homeostasis. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of betamelor (black rice, red beans, and moringa leaves) on blood glucose in ratsMaterials and Methods: The design of this research was experimental research with pre-and post-control group design. A total of 20 Sprague Dawley female rats were divided into four groups, namely standard feed (PS), 80% feed of betamelor (PB8), 50% feed of betamelor (PB5), and 20% feed of betamelor (PB2). Betamelor intervention was given as much as 5% of weight for 28 days. Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) levels were measured using the GOD-PAP method. Blood glucose data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 95% confidence level and using Duncan's test. Results: There were differences in FBG between groups after the intervention of betamelor. The results showed that after 28 days of intervention, betamelor decreased the serum glucose concentration from 122.69 mg / dL to 97.70 mg / dL (20.37%) in the PB8 group and from 123.91 mg / dL to 113.28 mg / dL (8.58%) in the PB5 group, but the standard diet (PS) increased by 5.73%. This result can be applied to reduce blood glucose levels in obese and patients with metabolic syndrome. Conclusions: There was a significant effect of giving a mixture of black rice, red beans, and Moringa leaves on fasting blood sugar in rats.

This study aims to determine the differences in the proportion of pregnant women with a history of chronic energy deficiency based on family characteristics, reproductive health and child birth size in Bengkulu City and Kupang City. This study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. The research subjects were 60 breastfeeding mothers with a history of pregnancy with chronic energy deficiency who had children aged 6-12 months. Data were collected through filling out a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test. The characteristics of mothers in the two research locations were homogeneous according to socio-economic variables of the family, number of family members, mother's age during pregnancy, mother's education, mother's occupation, child's gender, child's birth weight and birth spacing. Different characteristics were found in the variables of family income, maternal nutritional status, parity, and infant birth weight. Keywords: pregnant women; chronic lack of energy; reproduction health; baby birth size ABSTRAK Ibu hamil dengan kekurangan energi kronik berisiko melahirkan bayi dengan berat lahir rendah. Abstract

Background: Sexually transmitted infections are diseases that are transmitted through sexual intercourse with partners who have high-risk sexual behavior, one of which is changing sex partners without using condoms. This behavior is most likely to occur by using the services of female sex workers. Objective: this study aims to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Kupang City. Method: this study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. Results: bivariate analysis showed that the variables of individual characteristics (age, education, length of work as a female sex worker, and income) and prevention behavior of sexually transmitted infections (condom use) had a p value <0.25. After multivariate analysis, it was found that the variables of length of work and condom use had a p value <0.05. Conclusion: there is an association between individual characteristics (age, education, length of time working as a female sex worker, and income) and sexually transmitted infection prevention behavior (condom use) with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections. The variables of length of employment and condom use were significantly associated with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Kupang City.

Abstract

Introduction: As the future generation of the nation, child health must receive special attention. Nutritional problems in children continue to be a major public health issue worldwide. There are 149.2 million children under five years old experiencing stunting; 45.4 million children are underweight, and 38.9 million children are overweight. Malnutrition remains a critical public health issue for children under five years old in developing countries. Various studies indicate that the factors associated with nutritional problems in children vary from country to country. Objective: This study aims to identify factors related to nutritional status in young children. Method: This research employs a systematic review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Article searches were conducted using three databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. The inclusion criteria for this study were articles published between 2013 and 2023 and available in open access, with the sample consisting of young children. Results: A review of 22 articles revealed that the determinants of young children's nutritional status include parental characteristics such as maternal education, maternal occupation, maternal age, maternal BMI, and maternal knowledge; family characteristics including the number of children and family socioeconomic status; disease factors such as diarrhea and low birth weight; and hygiene and sanitation factors including access to clean water, toilets, and healthcare facilities. Conclusion: Nutritional status in young children can be influenced by education, economic conditions, hygiene practices, and healthcare facilities.

Abstract

One of the social problems solving the direct impact on the community is overcoming household food security due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze household food security during the COVID-19 pandemic and link it to the nutrient intake and nutritional status of children under five in the Kupang district area. This cross-sectional study is based on a survey conducted on the Timorese population in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, from May to October 2021. Data on household dietary diversity was collected through the 24-hour food recall using the household dietary diversity score (HDDS). The study sample was taken from Timorese population families with toddlers under five years, and 1,444 families voluntarily participated in this study. Subjects were taken at each public health using a simple random method. This study analyzes the Spearman correlation test with the HDDS and the proportion of food expenditure. A 63% of households had a balance of less cost (<50%) with an average of 63.9. Generally, households (90.4%) had a pretty good diet diversity score. Food groups that were relatively highly consumed by most households included cereals (100%), sugar and sweeteners (90.2%), oils and fats (93.7%), seasonings, and spices (89.4%). A significant effect with p<0.05 was on HDDS during the COVID-19 pandemic. The food consumption score is another indicator widely used in determining household food security. Therefore, it is necessary to revalidate tests in further studies of these indicators.
