Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital for achieving SDG 1 (poverty alleviation) and SDG 8 (inclusive and sustainable economic growth). In Surakarta (Solo), MSMEs significantly contribute to local employment and poverty reduction. However, many face challenges in expanding beyond the local market, particularly in accessing foreign markets. This study analyses the role of Solo’s MSMEs in advancing SDGs 1 and 8 and explores barriers to global market entry. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and secondary data from the Surakarta Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the research identifies key obstacles and opportunities for MSMEs in supporting poverty reduction and economic growth. The Pentahelix Model—government, academia, business, civil society, and media—is applied to highlight the collaborative framework needed for MSMEs’ internationalization. Strengthening these stakeholders’ synergy can create an enabling environment, improving access to finance, training, and market information. A comprehensive strategy involving policy support, capacity building, and resource facilitation is essential to enhance MSMEs’ competitiveness in global markets, thereby maximizing their contribution to Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 8.  Keywords— MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Poverty Eradication, Inclusive Economic Growth, International Market Access

Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of non-state diplomacy practiced by subaltern communities in postcolonial contexts. Using a comparative study of Papua, Catalonia, and Kurdistan, it explores how these communities leverage diaspora networks and digital diplomacy to gain international support, resist state hegemony, and challenge the global order that disproportionately favors state sovereignty. Employing a postcolonial framework, the article analyzes how subaltern groups use social media, transnational forums, and diaspora networks to create symbolic resistance and push back against dominant political narratives. The study is based on secondary data, including reports from international organizations, media publications, and digital activity analyses. The article argues that while subaltern diplomatic strategies have gained effectiveness, especially through the use of social media and the mobilization of diasporas, substantial obstacles remain in achieving wider international recognition. These challenges largely stem from the entrenched dominance of powerful states and an international system that prioritizes state sovereignty over subaltern claims. Abstract

This study examines the securitisation of Kashmir's separatism by the Indian government. This study argues that the government of India's securitisation effort seems like an initial step to revoke Kashmir's special autonomy. This study employed a securitisation framework, emphasising how two main stages of securitisation shape and influence the securitising process, including raising the issue and convincing the audience. I used a qualitative method by using descriptive analysis and secondary data sources. The Finding highlights that in the staging of raising the issue, the Indian government used media and political parties as speech act arena. In convincing the audience, Indian political elites and Indian society become other domains in addressing Kashmir's separatism. Consequently, this thesis argues that revoking Kashmir's autonomy becomes a rational action and has acceptability in public discourse. Keywords: India, Narendra Modi, Securitization, Separatism.

Abstract

The United States, particularly illegal immigrants from the Mexico border, is the primary destination country for these immigrants. In addressing the threat posed by illegal immigrants, the US implements foreign policy measures. Research aims to explain the factors contributing to these changes and examine the extent of changes in the US foreign policy concerning illegal immigration. The factors and levels of changes are analyzed using the foreign policy change theory developed by Jakob Gustavsson. The factors of change consist of international and domestic factors, encompassing political and economic elements. The levels of change categorized as adjustment changes, program changes, problem/goal changes, and international orientation changes. The research methodology employed is qualitative, utilizing a descriptive analytical approach and relying on secondary data. The international factors within the political realm include increasing criminal activities, while the economic aspect pertains to issues regarding low wages for workers. Domestic factors within the political sphere involve changes in foreign policy resulting from the fulfillment of campaign promises influenced by political parties, and the economic aspect relates to the declining income of the American population, affecting the average income of U.S. citizens. The observed levels of change predominantly fall under program changes and international orientation changes.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of Field Indonesia as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in Indonesia that focuses on environmental issues. Field Indonesia sees the problem of climate change that must be addressed. Climate change occurs due to global warming caused by land burning activities. The impact of climate change in Indonesia is very concerning so that an effective solution is needed to overcome this problem. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach using primary and secondary data. This research uses the concept of Role of NGO Theory by Lucas J Giese which is seen through four indicators, namely issue framing, agenda setting, information provision, and lobbying & campaigning. This research describes that Field Indonesia plays a role in responding to climate change events by adopting the global climate change mitigation agenda. The mitigation agenda is focused on prevention efforts related to climate change through the Indonesian Clean Air Program. This study found that in carrying out its role as an NGO for program implementation, Field Indonesia framed the issue by conducting an initial survey of the community then developing a framework and establishing cooperation with various parties from local to international levels. Field Indonesia provides information related to the UBI Program through the Indonesian Clean Air Cadre Training activities and utilizes various digital platforms such as social media and websites, then Field lobbies and campaigns through journalist visits and poster distribution activities and obtains support related to the implementation of the UBI Program from the village level to the central government.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of international agreements on efforts that must be made to create a just, prosperous, and safe world for humans and the planet Earth. Efforts to achieve SDG number 2, namely "zero hunger", need to be done by implementing sustainable agriculture. This article explains the implementation of sustainable agriculture in West Sumatra Province, which has prepared a "Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Development Goals." In the RAD, it is stated that the Provincial Government will build a sustainable food production system. This research was conducted using a qualitative method. Data collection was carried out through interviews with farmer groups and various government agencies, accompanied by a review of related documents. The researcher used a policy framework consisting of four factors proposed by Eyhorn et al. (2019) to realize sustainable agriculture. The results of this study indicate that the first factor, namely the transformation towards sustainable agriculture, is underway in West Sumatra Province. The second factor, namely cooperation with the market to absorb sustainable agricultural products, has been attempted; the other two factors, namely incentives and sanctions related to sustainable agriculture, still need to be implemented.

Abstract

This article explores the Sawah Pokok Murah (SPM) initiative in West Sumatra as a localized, reconstructive response to the capitalist-driven global food system. Through a historical sociology approach and food sovereignty framework, the study investigates how SPM challenges structural inequalities in global food markets by promoting sustainable farming practices and community empowerment. The paper analyzes the historical context of SPM, its socio-economic impact, and its role in resisting neoliberal agricultural policies. Key findings reveal that SPM empowers local farmers, reduces dependency on global supply chains, and fosters economic resilience, thereby providing a viable alternative to market-driven agriculture. However, challenges such as youth engagement and regional disparities highlight the need for targeted policy interventions. This study contributes to the discourse on food sovereignty and offers a critical perspective on how localized innovations can reshape global agricultural systems toward greater sustainability and equity.
