Abstract

Abstract

Sufism and ṭarīqa are often associated with awful and negative stigmas for generating laziness, stagnancy, and surrender to misery. Sheikh Fathurahman tackles these assumptions through the teachings of the Idrisiyya Order. This study is qualitative based research. The primary data were collected from books by Sheikh Fathurahman and his lectures uploaded on Youtube, observations, Focus Group Discussions, and direct and indirect interviews. This study found that Sufi revivalism, as initiated by Sheikh Fathurahman, has led to a positive movement. The presence of the ṭarīqa, especially the Idrisiyya Order, amid society has contributed to crucial social changes and innovations in some sectors, such as economics, education, and other social programs. Contribution: This study will give a new insight into the central teaching of taṣawwuf, such as zuhd and tawakkal as reinterpreted by Sheikh Fathurahman under the Idrisiyya Order so that ṭarīqa becomes the locomotive of social change amid Muslim society in Indonesia.

Abstract

Hamzah Fansuri is a Nusantara (Indonesian) sufi who used poems as a medium to convey his messages. In order to understand the symbols used in his poems, a hermeneutics approach is required, especially by using theories of metaphor and symbol which are inseparable parts of ta’wil or Islamic hermeneutics. His poems were mostly inspired by his thoughts and spiritual as well as mystical experiences. For him the poems served not only as emotional revelation, but also as stairways to God, transcendental medium, and self transformation. His poems were widely recognized as hermeneutics poetry or ta’wil verses which are often the esoteric tafsir (meaning) of Quran. He used language symbols which have contextual characteristics, such as boat, bird, trading, sub trading, etc.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the concept of Insan Kamil from the perspective of Abdul Karim Al-Jilli and Muhammad Iqbal and to compare the concept of Insan Kamil from the perspective of Abdul Karim Al-Jilli and Muhammad Iqbal. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research with library research methods. Data collection techniques used documentation, while in analyzing data, researchers used two analytical techniques, namely content analysis and comparative analysis. The results of the study show that: According to Al-Jilli, Kamil is a servant who always wants to be close to his God by carrying out mystical ascent and spiritual cultivation consisting of 7 maqamat. There are 3 levels of Insan Kamil formulated by Al-Jilli namely al-bidayah, altawassut, and al-khitam. The level of al-khitam or the highest level can only be achieved by Rasulullah SAW. Muhammad Iqbal considers Insan Kamil as a human being who has a strong personality or humility. One's khudi must go beyond 3 stages or criteria to reach the degree of Insan Kamil, namely obedience to God's law, self-mastery, and Divine caliphate. Insan Kamil for Al-Jilli and Iqbal agree as a mirror of a human being who believes and is always close to his God. While the difference between the two is that according to al-Jili the degree of Insan Kamil is obtained through good hablum minallah, whereas according to Iqbal the degree of Insan Kamil is obtained not only through hablum minallah but also hablum minannas.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the sufism of al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali in the autobiography of al-Washaya and al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal book and the autobiography intertextuality of al-Washaya and al- Munqidz min al-Dhalal? The primary source used is the book of al-Washayaby al-Muhasibi and al- Munqidz min al-Dhalal by al-Ghazali. The Sufism science based on al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali is the scientific culmination of various epistemologies the validity of which can be accounted for. Both of them consider that sufism can satisfy their intellectual and spiritual thirst. The intertextual relationship between those two Sufism books can be seen in those two authors' cultural backgrounds. Their intertextual relations are also found in themes, plots, characterizations, and language styles. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the integration of Sufism with Shari'a as an intellectual and spiritual solution that remains relevant today.

Abstract

In Indonesia, religious- and tradition-based healing methods are still widely practiced, especially in rural areas with strong attachments to religious values. The study focused on how religious leaders, through certain rituals, act as healing agents believed to be able to restore spiritual balance and mental health to patients. Using an anthropological approach, research was conducted at PRS Maunatul Mubarok, Demak, Central Java, a religious healing center. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews and first-hand observation of healing ritual practices. The results of the study show that healing rituals function not only as therapeutic efforts, but also as social mechanisms that strengthen community solidarity and instill hope for patients. Furthermore, these findings highlight the importance of cross-cultural understanding in mental health systems and the need to develop treatment approaches that integrate medical and religious aspects in a balanced manner. Religious leaders and ritual-based healing practices have a significant role to play in providing alternative treatment for mental disorders, especially in communities heavily influenced by tradition and religion.

Abstract

Psychosocial rehabilitation for individuals with schizophrenia typically addresses social skills, vocational training, and symptom management, yet often overlooks the spiritual dimension of recovery. Transpersonal spiritual therapy—which integrates spiritual or religious practices into psychotherapy—has emerged as a promising approach to fulfill patients’ spiritual needs alongside psychosocial goals. This literature review expands previous analyses by comparing two faith-based transpersonal interventions: Islamic Asma’ therapy and Hindu Sekala-Niskala therapy. Drawing on research from 2020– 2025 and earlier foundational studies, we examine the philosophical underpinnings, therapeutic processes, and clinical outcomes of each approach. Both frameworks emphasize connecting with a higher power to promote inner peace, meaning, and personal growth, aligning closely with transpersonal psychology’s focus on experiences beyond the ego. Case studies and recent trials indicate that integrating spiritual practices (e.g. dhikr meditation, prayer, yoga, melukat cleansing rituals) into rehabilitation can reduce psychopathology, enhance coping, and improve quality of life for people with serious mental illness. Findings show that while theological content differs, both religious frameworks offer transpersonal techniques that support recovery and complement conventional treatment.

Abstract

The book Hujjah Ahlussunah Wal Jama’ah by K.H. Ali Maksum Krapyak has gained widespread recognition as a primary reference in affirming the worship practices of the Nahdlatul Ulama group. Although this book is often used to support arguments against bid’ah practices, it actually contains texts that teach moderate values. The GP. Ansor organization, as an autonomous body of Nahdlatul Ulama focused on campaigns for unity, religious tolerance, and appreciation of differences, needs to understand that the studied book not only explains the literal meaning of texts but also conveys specific messages. This article aims to identify moderate religious texts in the book Hujjah Ahlussunah Wal Jama’ah, examine the implementation of teaching from the book, and reflect on the outcomes of this instruction. The community service method employs the Service Learning approach, establishing a connection between the academic community and academic tasks, with the goal of serving the community while developing academic and social skills through practical tasks in society. Through the service learning strategy, academics have the opportunity to develop life skills by imparting values acquired through the taught material to the community. The research results indicate that moderate religious texts in the book Hujjah Ahlussunah Wal Jama’ah are found in eight chapters, such as: Sending the Reward of Recitation, Charity and Righteous Deeds for the Deceased, Sunnah Prayers before Jumu'ah, Talqin for the Deceased, Tarawih Prayer, Determining the Beginning of Ramadan, Visiting Graves, the Punishment of the Grave, and Visiting the Prophet's Tomb. The teaching process of the book occurs in three stages: pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation. Reflection on the program's results encompasses four main points: the importance of religious moderation, the crucial role of Kiai in moderation, the significance of studying the book Hujjah Ahlussunah Wal Jama'ah, and the vital role of GP. Ansor.
