Abstract

Batik Literacy Training represents a strategic effort to promote and safeguard batik as an Indonesian cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, particularly among international volunteers who act as agents of cultural exchange. Japanese and French volunteers involved in cultural and social programs in Indonesia demonstrated strong interest in local traditions; however, their batik literacy is often constrained by limited understanding of its philosophical meanings, motifs, production processes, and language barriers. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to enhance batik literacy and strengthen English communication skills among Japanese volunteers, French volunteers, and members of the English Talk Club (ETC). The program was conducted at the Pekalongan Batik Museum using a participatory and communicative approach grounded in experiential learning. Activities included guided material presentations, direct observation of batik collections, hands-on batik practice, group discussions, and short presentations delivered in English. The participants consisted of international volunteers and ETC members from the Language Centre of Universitas Pekalongan. The results indicated notable improvements in participants’ understanding of batik history, philosophical values, motif diversity, and traditional production techniques, as well as increased speaking confidence, fluency, and acquisition of thematic English vocabulary. Intercultural interactions further fostered reflective dialogue and intercultural communicative competence. In conclusion, integrating cultural literacy with communicative language practice effectively positions the Pekalongan Batik Museum as an intercultural learning space that supports cultural preservation and community-based cultural diplomacy.

Abstract

Siswa MIS Simbang Kulon 01 memiliki potensi yang bagus untuk dikembangkan dalam hal berbicara, namun untuk berpidato, siswa perlu untuk dikembangkan melalui pendampingan.  Tujuan kegiatan PkM ini yaitu mengembangkan kemampuan siswa dalam pidato Bahasa Inggris baik dari kesesuaian tema, kesesuaian pengucapan, intonasi, kelancaran, penggunaan kontak mata, ekspresi wajah, dan gesture. Metode PkM dilakukan melalui tahapan persiapan, implementasi kegiatan, dan evaluasi. Peserta kegiatan ini yaitu siswa MIS Simbang Kulon 01 yang merupakan kandidat peserta English Speech Competition. Hasil dari kegiatan PkM ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa dapat menampilkan pidato dengan lancar dan materi pidato tersampaikan sesuai dengan tema. Selain itu, siswa dapat berpidato dengan pronunciation yang tepat dan menggunakan intonasi, kontak mata, ekspres wajah, dan gesture yang sesuai. Hal ini diperkuat dengan capaian siswa meraih juara 2 pada English Speech Competition.

Abstract

One of the problems faced by countries emerging is the number of people living in poverty. Therefore, poverty reduction a priority in the implementation of economic development. For Indonesia, the reduction of poverty is one measure of the success of development. Considering the number of the world's population in poverty, it is natural for poverty become an international problem. It proved , the PBB has set Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs ), where one of the goal is to reduce poverty . as a high-level conference participants millenium of PBB, Indonesia seriously to reduce the number of poor people to reach 50 % by 2015. Poverty is a complex issue, so that countermeasures need approaches from various aspects, whether economic, political and socio-cultural. One of the solutions is through educational activities entrepreneurship in order to change the mental attitude of dependence and to develop a work ethic, which is expected to foster self-reliance. Through the implementation of entrepreneurship education is expected to raise the awareness that to eliminate poverty must be taken through the productive work carried out by their own. Then, Prodi PGMI of Institut Pesantren Mathali’ul Falah intends to develop entrepreneurship in the curriculum design and learning experiences so that graduates can survive in his life later
