Abstract

Non schlae set vittae discinnus, this is a latin idiomatic to clear the purpose of educational purposes; we learn for not for school but for life. This article is inspired by phenomena of modernity, all have pragmatics orientation and erode the essence and value of education. Indonesia clear that claim, all system in education is structurized by certain portion in relation with jobfield, outline of modernity creates new world order in false-structure and lead by developed nation. They now drive the direction of education, what should be done by higher education to their curriculum, and fullfilling industrial need is a must as priority in curriculum sector. Posmodernity – perspective tries to pass the standart of modernity by making way out for science ideality, these are never ended process to revitalize new concept in developing curriculum in Higher education. Deconstruction is one key theory to offer some solution in managing curriculum, then library research is used to analyze by comparing ideal world by expert as their opinion to real situation in Indonesian education especially on curriculum concept.

Abstract

This research is aimed to give one of the alternates to promote and develop the tourism, folklore, history and culture in Pekalongan sub-district through a promotion media, film. Abstract

Developing learning platform of writing was needed in this digital era, it helped students to learn autonomously. This research was aimed to investigate the stages of developing instagram account as learning platform of writing text types and to find out the feasibility of instagram account as learning platform of writing text types. Research and Development (R&D) was implemented in this research. The subject of the research was the second semester students of English Depatment of Pekalongan Universitay. Questionnare was used to get the data and validation of the product. Borg & Gall development model was used in analyzing the data. The result showed the stages of R & D which included some steps, they were research and information collecting of developin instagram account, planning of developing instagram account, develop preliminary of product (instagram account), preliminary filed testing, main product revision, and main field testing. In addition, instagram account was accepted the feasibility validation—it was feasible to be used as learning platform of writing. Moreover, the students were enthusiastic in using instagram as learning platform of writing. They actively involved in joining the discussion in instagram and did writing practices. In conclusion, instagram account was accepted as learning platform of writing text types

Abstract

English learning should follow standardization to show its framework competence. One of them is Common European Framework References (CEFR). Writing for professional context subject is equal with B1 and C2 on assessment grid. This study was aimed in analyzing the need to develop teaching materials of Writing for professional context which was based on CEFR standard and contextualized by Pekalongan characteristic as the World Creative city. The research method which was implemented was descriptive analysis. The subjects of this research were the head of English Department, the writing lecturer, and the second term students of English Department. The instrument of this research was questionnaire. The result showed lecturer’s performance in teaching writing for professional context. Based on the students’ perception, they had high interest on this subject. Meanwhile, for the questionnaire of need analysis developing electronic module, it was open question; all of the students gave positive response. They stated that E-module offers easiness for them, it can be read everywhere and anywhere. It will support the students to learn independently. In addition, it is very effective, efficient and paperless. In addition the content of E-module was agreed for having its own characteristic which raises local wisdom. Therefore, it can be contextualized with the characteristic of Pekalongan the world creative city to the content development of writing material, especially text types.Keywords: Macro Curriculum, CEFR, E-module, World Creative City

Abstract

Technology in this era as a friend for human. It can be good or bad depending on the user. Now almost of all generation prefer the practical thing to use in their life, included in learning process. Both of teachers and students prefer to have an effective and efficient learning process. The researcher use the situation to conduct research and development. The research “Developing Ebook “Batang Heaven of Asia” as Descriptive Text Teaching Materials” was the utilization of technology in learning process. The e-book can help the teachers and the students as learning source. The research answered two questions (1) How is the need of developing e-book “Heaven of Asia” as descriptive text teaching materials? (2) How is developing e-book “Batang Heaven of Asia” as descriptive text teaching materials? The development procedures that used in this research was PPE from Richey and Klein 2005 . Those procedures were planning, production, and evaluation. In planning, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to get teachers’ and students’ needs. From the data result, the researcher analyzed the data and designed the product based on teachers’ and students’ needs. The process of producing this e-book, the researcher observed the tourism destination before writing the text. The title of e-book was Let’s Explore Batang. It contained the basic standard and learning goals, the materials, the texts, worksheet and glossary. This RND arrange e-book as descriptive text teaching material based on description of tourism destination in Batang Regency. This e-book was not only the texts but there were some pictures of the destination described. The e-book validated by some experts, they were English lecturers and English teacher. Abstract

Writing is a productive activity where the writer expresses his/her ideas in the form of sentences, paragraphs or text. To know how far students’ writing skill mastered, it was needed to do feedback, one of them was online peer feedback. This study aimed to find out students’ perception on  the implementation of online peer feedback on the project of writing discussion text. Mix method research was applied. The subject of the study were the 2nd semester students of English Education Department of Pekalongan University. Questionnaire, interview, and documentation were conducted to get the data. For the quantitative data, they were analyzed statistically. Meanwhile, for the qualitative data, they were described by doing data interpretation. The finding showed that students’ perceptions in terms of online peer feedback were that online peer feedback can be done flexibly and easily accessed. Through peer feedback, students can identify the colleagues writing, in terms of content, structure, linguistic features, vocabulary, and mechanics. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced were that it was not easy for students to compose words in delivering feedback. Keywords: Perception, online peer feedback, discussion text

Abstract

Communication in the global era requires doer of the communication mastering English. In line to this condition, English is a necessity in education, including in Pekalongan. Many students of the second grade of SMP N 5 Pekalongan, often face difficulties in using modal auxiliary when constructing request sentences and it will affect the use of politeness strategies. This phenomenon occurs between teachers and students, or even among students. Based on the root of the problem, Team of PkM held a Training on the Use of Modal Auxiliary in Writing Request Sentences. The sample of this PKM activity was 33 students. PkM was held in 6 months, in the academic year of 2022/2023. PkM activity was done in 4 stages, namely socialization, training, mentoring and evaluation. This activity was carried out well. Each stage in the activity supports the plan to achieve the objectives of PkM. The result was measured from the results of the pre-test and post-test as a comparison in formulating the level of success. The results of the questionnaire showed an increase in aspects of understanding the aspect of auxiliary capital with the score (Good), examples of auxiliary capital (Very Good), its use (Very Good) and the social status of conversation actors (Good). Through this activity, students can distinguish and choose the appropriate use of modal auxiliary according to social status or age.

Abstract

Siswa MIS Simbang Kulon 01 memiliki potensi yang bagus untuk dikembangkan dalam hal berbicara, namun untuk berpidato, siswa perlu untuk dikembangkan melalui pendampingan.  Tujuan kegiatan PkM ini yaitu mengembangkan kemampuan siswa dalam pidato Bahasa Inggris baik dari kesesuaian tema, kesesuaian pengucapan, intonasi, kelancaran, penggunaan kontak mata, ekspresi wajah, dan gesture. Metode PkM dilakukan melalui tahapan persiapan, implementasi kegiatan, dan evaluasi. Peserta kegiatan ini yaitu siswa MIS Simbang Kulon 01 yang merupakan kandidat peserta English Speech Competition. Hasil dari kegiatan PkM ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa dapat menampilkan pidato dengan lancar dan materi pidato tersampaikan sesuai dengan tema. Selain itu, siswa dapat berpidato dengan pronunciation yang tepat dan menggunakan intonasi, kontak mata, ekspres wajah, dan gesture yang sesuai. Hal ini diperkuat dengan capaian siswa meraih juara 2 pada English Speech Competition.

Abstract

This study was aimed to describe the strength and weaknesses of implementation Google Classroom as a platform to submit students’ project in post-pandemic. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Wiradesa in the eleventh graders. This study used a descriptive qualitative methodology. To know the strength and weaknesses of implementation Google Classroom as a platform to submit student’s project in postpandemic, the researcher conducted interviews with English teacher and gave questionnaires to class XI MIPA 1 SMAN 1 Wiradesa. The result showed that Google Classroom makes it easier for students and teachers. The accessibility of materials, assignments, and student collections is facilitated in part by Google Classroom. Students are reminded when it is time to turn in their assignments, and they can also ask with their teachers in person if they have any questions. Because it can be done from any location at any time, using Google Classroom as a platform for assignment submission helps both students and teachers. The Google Classroom menus assist teacher and students in the learning process so that it can be collected in real time. The weakness is the problem of network connection, a weak network connection will take a long time to download and submit assignments. This is what sometimes makes students late in submitting assignments. The second, there is a deadline for submitting assignments. due to the large number of assignments that students have from various subjects. It makes the students late in submitting assignments. The third is internet quota. many students have limited internet quota and only a few students have wifi at their homes. Key words : Google Classroom, students’ project

Abstract

Expressing ideas in writing caption of promoting products was not easy for students, therefore the researchers tried to optimize the use of social media especially Instagram to establish students’ interest in writing. This research was focused on investigating the strengths and weaknesses of implementing Instagram in writing promotional caption. A descriptive qualitative method was applied in doing the investigation. 31 students of Vocational High School were participated as the subject of this research. To achieve the objective of the study, three instruments were used, they were test, questionnaire, and interview. The test was writing caption through Instagram. The questionnaire was distributed online, meanwhile, the interview was done face to face. Next, the data were analysed and described using qualitative methods. Research findings showed that Instagram contributed positive things to doing writing projects. By using Instagram, students’ writing could be reached by the readers everywhere. Since the material was caption, the students could develop their writing skill of promoting something through Instagram. However, there were found the problems in writing caption using Instagram. It was found that 11 students confused in determining the caption model and did not have any idea about the product to be promoted. In addition, the problem in finding the topic and developing the sentences to be an attractive promotional caption was faced by 16 students. In conclusion, Instagram could be used as a platform to post students’ writing projects, however, the students need to enrich the ideas in writing
