Abstract

Disparities in quality of life between regions and the phenomenon of economic growth that is not always linear with equitable welfare distribution are major challenges in development today. This study examines to analyze the dynamic determinants of the human development index and its implications for regional mobility within the framework of Klassen typology. The observation period spans from 2018 to 2023. Using the System Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) approach to overcome endogeneity issues, this study estimates the impact of economic growth, economic freedom, government effectiveness, and inflation on the HDI. The findings results show that economic growth has a positive and significant effect on the HDI, with the long-run impact being much greater than the short-run impact. This confirms that improvements in quality of life are cumulative and require steady growth. Conversely, economic freedom is found to have a significant negative effect indicating that market liberalization without institutional maturity actually hinders equitable development. Meanwhile, government effectiveness and inflation did not show a significant effect, implying a gap in policy implementation. This study concludes that in order to encourage regional transition towards higher levels of development, policy strategies must focus on long-run economic growth sustainability and strengthening social safety nets before pursuing aggressive market liberalization.

Abstract

Indonesia is the ruler of areca nut exports in the world and 40% of Indonesia's total areca nut exports come from Jambi. The research was focus by Jambi’s strategic role in national areca nut production and exports, alongside persistent constraints in the upstream subsystem of agribusiness especially limited capital, production-cost variability, and uneven breeder capacity to consistently meet certification standards. A survey based descriptive quantitative approach was employed. Primary data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires from three purposively selected certified breeders (from five existing units) who met the criteria of business ownership, a minimum of two years of operation, and active participation in certification. Secondary data were sourced from BPS and relevant provincial agencies. Analysis focused on fixed and variable cost components, total revenue, farm income (TR–TC), and feasibility using the Revenue–Cost (R/C) ratio. Results show that the average total production cost reached Rp 183,266,666/year, comprising seeding costs of Rp 71,889,427 and nursery costs of Rp 111,377,239. Average total revenue was Rp 692,156,067/year, generating an average income of Rp 508,889,401/year (= Rp 42,407,450/month). The mean R/C ratio was 3.5, indicating financial feasibility (R/C > 1). However, substantial income disparities among breeders suggest that scale, managerial capability, and cost control critically determine profitability. Strengthening cost efficiency, optimizing nursery land (including yard-based expansion), and improving compliance support for certification are recommended to enhance sustainability.

Abstract

This study examines the causal relationship between road transportation infrastructure and regional economic growth in Jambi Province during 2013Q1–2024Q4. The analysis uses quarterly time-series data derived from Gross Regional Domestic Product at constant prices and the road-good-condition indicator, then applies the Augmented Dickey-Fuller test, optimal lag selection, VAR stability testing, Johansen cointegration, Granger causality, and a Vector Error Correction Model. The results indicate a one-way short-run causal pattern: economic growth Granger-causes road infrastructure, while road infrastructure does not Granger-cause economic growth. However, both variables are cointegrated, showing a long-run equilibrium relationship. The findings suggest that improvements in road quality in Jambi tend to follow expanding economic activity and fiscal capacity, whereas the economic benefits of road development are more visible in the long term than in quarterly movements.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of factors affecting the level of happiness in East Asian countries, namely Economic Growth, Unemployment, Education (Average Years of Schooling), Per Capita Income, and Health (Life Expectancy). The study employs descriptive analysis and panel data regression using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) with secondary data from six East Asian countries Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, China, Mongolia, and Hongk ong covering the period 2014–2023. The results show that Economic Growth and Unemployment have a positive but insignificant effect on the Happiness Index, Education has a negative and significant effect, Per Capita Income has a positive and significant effect, while Health has a positive but insignificant effect. Based on the individual effects, Taiwan has the highest level of happiness, while Hongkong has the lowest due to high social and political pressures. Overall, development in East Asia has not yet fully improved happiness evenly across countries, indicating the need for policies focusing on social welfare and quality of life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) and evaluate the financial performance of the Dharmasraya Regency Government during 2015–2024 through financial ratio analysis. The study used secondary time series data from the Regional Government Financial Report (LKPD) and Budget Realization Reports (LRA) of Dharmasraya Regency and applied a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that APBD development fluctuated during the period. The regional financial independence ratio was 10.56 percent (very low), indicating strong dependence on central transfers. The PAD effectiveness ratio was 93.21 percent (moderately effective), while the financial efficiency ratio was 89.61 percent (moderately efficient). The fiscal decentralization ratio was 9.31 percent (very poor). The operational expenditure harmony ratio reached 76.01 percent (good), whereas the capital expenditure harmony ratio was 23.50 percent (poor). In addition, the PAD growth ratio was 9.72 percent (low). Overall, the financial performance of Dharmasraya Regency still needs improvement through PAD optimization.
