Abstract

Literary literacy needs to be cultivated to fight the impact of globalization which has made the local culture eroded and increasingly marginalized and has even begun to show symptoms of being forgotten. Thus, study on local wisdom-based literary literacy needs to be carried out to reveal the values contained in it through the literary literacy movement as reinforcement of language and literature learning. This study uses a qualitative method. The data sources are obtained from teachers, librarians, students, and related parties in school as well as learning plan documents arranged in the lesson plans and students’ learning outcomes. The data are collected through  interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that literacy activities in literary learning focus on reading, understanding, interpreting and responding to literary reading texts. The teachers integrate the values of local wisdom in all stages of literary learning carried out in three phases, namely initial activities, main activities and closing activities. This has positive impact on students not only in terms of academic but also non-academic.The obstacles encountered in its implementation are the low interest of students in reading, the lack of teachers’ understanding of North Maluku local wisdom, the lack of learning methods and varied learning media, and the lack of references to literary books containing local wisdom available in school library. The findings imply that literary literacy based on local wisdom applied by teachers in learning can develop students’ awareness of local cultures. However, it has not been able to improve the students’ literacy skills.

Abstract

Nowadays, ecology has developed rapidly since it is no longer limited to the study of ecosystems or nature, but also used to study other fields including in literary studies. Many scholars argue that literature is closely related and inseparable to ecology. The large number of literary works containing nature and the environment shows that the writers have cared for nature from a long time ago. The study aims to analyze the representation of Ternate oral literature in the perspective of literary ecology. This study apllies descriptive qualitative method. Technique data collection used is documentation technique. Sources of data for this study were obtained from various sources of Ternate oral literature documents found in libraries and other relevant sources. In addition, the researchers used browsing’ techniques to find relevant data. Triangulation techniques are still used to check valid data from various sources. The result shows that the representation of Ternate oral literature viwed from ecological perspective is shown in the form of fables and poetry (dola bololo, dalil moro, and dalil tifa) which implie moral and ethical values to become lessons for the community and readers of literature. In addition, the implied message from fables and poetry in Ternate oral literature is that living things and their natural environment play a role in life and also influence the thinking of the people of Ternate which of course must be maintained and preserved because they are useful for the community itself.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out students' translation accuracy of report text in an English education study program. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with the third-semester students as the respondents of this research. The main data source was taken from The Jakarta Post, Bicara Melalui Kain": Redefining textile narratives in Indonesia. The technique of data collection used in this research was using one instrument: the results of the student's text translation. In assessing the accuracy of students' translations, the researcher used Nababan's (2012) accuracy assessment. The data shows that from 14 respondents from third-semester students, the accuracy of students' translations was still low. The low accuracy of students' translation was caused by the lack of vocabulary where there were many missing words, mistranslations, and distortion of meaning which affected the meaning of the text based on Nababan's (2012) Accuracy assessment. Around 7 out of 14 respondents were eliminated by the researcher caused by the used of Google Translate in transferring the English text (SL) into Indonesian (TL) which does not follow the researcher's provisions in her research. Regarding the result, this research could be a reference for lectures in improving students' translation ability.
