Postulating the language as means of communication playing crucial role in our daily lives is truly indisputable. A lot of problems occurred in the field of phonology by the students in delivering their speaking performance. This research is intended to analyze the phonological error in the second semester students in performing stories in the form of speaking. The kind of this research is classified as qualitative research which focuses on analyzing students’ utterances, particularly in terms of English phonology. In this study, the data were collected in the form of video-recorded speaking performance and written transcription by the subjects of the research. Furthermore, after a careful and detailed analyzing process by the researcher, it is concluded that most students made several phonological errors in pronouncing some English words. The result of the study showed that diversity of language skills and components particularly pronunciation, fluency, and accuracy is dominantly due to the previous educational background, students’ motivation in learning, the intensity of students’ exercise, students’ current efforts in learning English, and having a grit. By having a grit, the students have passion and perseverance to train themselves in learning English and practicing the English skills for long-term.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the teacher's role in creating a meaningful learning process, as depicted in the film "Freedom Writers." The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the teacher shown in the film based on Jeremy Harmer's theory of the teacher's role and to examine the emerging discourse using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection techniques through observation and documentation of dialogue and scenes in the film. The results indicate that the teacher in "Freedom Writers" plays the role of controller, prompter, participant, resource, and tutor. Critical discourse analysis reveals that text structure, social cognition, and social context significantly influence the portrayal of the teacher's role in the film. This research is expected to inspire and serve as a reflection for teachers and prospective teachers in educating students.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of classroom interaction categories in writing classes at SMK PGRI 2 Gianyar from the perspective of information sources and to identify the constraints in applying multi-way interaction. This qualitative descriptive research involved tenth-grade students and their English teacher as participants. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and field notes, focusing on the interaction patterns during teaching and learning activities. The findings revealed that 20 categories of the FLINT System were applied during three observation sessions. From the perspective of information sources, the teaching and learning process tended to be dominated by two-way interaction, with the teacher acting as the primary source of information. Several constraints were identified in promoting multi-way interaction, including limited time allocation, lack of teaching variety, and students’ passive behavior during lessons. Interviews also highlighted issues such as students’ minimal responses, lack of initiative during discussions, and the perception that English is difficult to learn. These findings indicate the need for strategies to create more balanced and interactive classrooms, where students can actively participate and develop better communication skills. This study is expected to provide insights for teachers in designing more engaging and effective classroom interactions to support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Design/methodology/approach: This research uses a qualitative approach which is explained descriptively. Research data was collected through observation, interviews and literature review. Data were analyzed and described qualitatively Findings: It was found that in the parhyangan aspect the value contained is respect and devotion to ancestors which is vertically the same as the relationship between humans and God through ancestors. In the pawongan aspect, the magebagan tradition is very full of meaning of solidarity, solidity and mutual cooperation. From the palemahan aspect, through the magebagan tradition, safe and comfortable conditions will be created for the bereaved family spiritually and materialistically. Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the self-confidence of early childhood learners through the Janger Dance Movement, used as an art- and culture-based learning medium. The program was implemented at TK Prawidya Dharma in Demulih Village, Bangli, involving children aged 5–6 years and their teachers. A qualitative descriptive method was applied using the Participatory Action Learning System (PALS) approach, which emphasizes active engagement, reflection, and participatory learning. The results showed a significant improvement in the children's self-confidence, evidenced by their increased willingness to perform in public, improved social interaction, and more expressive emotional behavior. Teachers also benefited from enhanced pedagogical competence, particularly in integrating cultural and artistic elements into meaningful classroom practices. The Janger Dance Movement proved to be an effective pedagogical strategy for fostering self-confidence, independence, and social development in early childhood education. This approach not only helped children build self-esteem but also encouraged them to engage in creative expression, while allowing teachers to gain valuable experience in incorporating cultural arts into their teaching practices.

Abstract

Bullying remains a critical issue in elementary school environments and significantly affects students’ social-emotional development. The lack of confidence among students to report negative experiences often results in bullying cases remaining undetected. This study aims to describe the implementation of Padlet as a reflective digital tool to encourage students’ self-expression and to analyze students’ reflections as indicators of a safe and supportive learning climate. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 14 sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Demulih. Data were collected through reflective Padlet posts, activity documentation, and thematic deductive analysis based on the Aggression Continuum Theory. The findings reveal three categories of social interaction: (1) high-risk behaviors related to dominance and indicators of bullying, (2) medium-risk interactions involving verbal teasing normalization and ambiguous conflicts, and (3) low-risk interactions indicating positive peer relations and social needs. Padlet proved effective as a safe digital space for students to express emotional experiences anonymously and facilitated early identification of potential bullying. These results highlight the importance of utilizing reflective digital platforms to foster preventive, inclusive, and psychologically secure classroom environments.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the integration of environmental education into early childhood learning activities at TK Prawidya Dharma Demulih through the use of recycled waste as a creative and educational learning medium. The study was motivated by the low environmental awareness among children and the limited use of environmentally themed learning media in the institution. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied using the ADDIE development model, consisting of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The findings reveal that employing a recycled-material spinner game enhanced children’s understanding of environmental cleanliness and encouraged environmentally responsible behavior through playful learning activities. The children showed strong enthusiasm, participated actively, and began to develop habits related to cleanliness after the learning sessions. Moreover, teachers gained new insights into designing innovative and functional learning media using discarded materials. Overall, the use of recycled waste as an educational tool proved effective in fostering environmental awareness while supporting creativity and meaningful learning experiences for early childhood learners..

Abstract

Literacy skills in elementary schools play a crucial role in supporting students’ academic development and overall learning success. However, observations conducted at SDN 2 Demulih revealed that many students still experience difficulties in comprehending reading materials and retelling stories coherently and systematically. This study aims to enhance students’ literacy and language skills through the implementation of the retelling technique as an instructional strategy. A descriptive research approach employing the ADDIE development model was applied, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The program involved 21 students from grades IV–VI and utilized two audiovisual story media, namely “Independence” and “Bawang dan Kesuna.” The results indicate that the application of the retelling technique based on audiovisual media effectively improved students’ reading comprehension, learning activeness, and self-confidence in speaking activities. Students were able to reconstruct storylines accurately and express moral messages using their own words. Therefore, the retelling technique is proven to be an engaging, practical, and effective literacy learning strategy for elementary school students.
