Abstract

Lingkungan merupakan wadah interaksi dan aktivitas makhluk hidup termasuk manusia yang ada di dalamnya. Lingkungan yang sifatnya dinamis memiliki kemampuan memulihkan dirinya tapi kemampuannya terbatas sehingga dibutuhkan pemahaman dan kesadaran dalam menjaga dan merawatnya agar tetap lestari. Keberadaan manusia dengan segala aktivitas dan pemahamannya memberikan dampak secara langsung maupun tidak langsung terhadap kelestarian lingkungan hidup. Pelestarian lingkungan merupakan suatu bentuk perlindungan dan pengelolaan terhadap lingkungan hidup agar keberlanjutannya tetap terjaga. Permasalahan lingkungan dan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap kelestarian lingkungan masih menjadi hal yang perlu dibenahi hingga saat ini. Kegiatan pengabdian mengambil tema Edukasi Pelestarian Ekosistem Hutan dan Lingkungan yang dilakukan melalui sosialisasi pemaparan materi Pengenalan Konsep Ramah Lingkungan. Pengabdian dilakukan sebagai langkah awal untuk keberlanjutan lingkungan dengan menyasar generasi muda penerus bangsa dan generasi pendidik yang akan memberikan input terhadap generasi selanjutnya. Pengabdian dilakukan di sekolah yang merupakan wadah memperoleh pendidikan dan pengetahuan dengan lokasi di SMKN 4 Ternate. Kegiatan sosialisasi berjalan lancar dan antusias. Sosialisasi ini diharapkan dapat menumbuhkan kesadaran dan terbentuk partisipasi masyarakat secara umum dan warga SMKN 4 Ternate pada khususnya terhadap pelestarian lingkungan hidup. Manusia sebagai makhluk berakal berperan penting terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan hidup.

Abstract

Environmental carrying capacity and environmental load capacity (D3TLH) are important instruments in spatial planning mandated by Law No. 32 of 2009 and Law No. 26 of 2007. This study aims to analyze the environmental carrying and loading capacity based on water provisioning ecosystem services in Ternate City. Although ecosystem services-based approaches have been widely implemented across various Indonesian regions, research specifically addressing Ternate City as a volcanic island area with distinctive geographical characteristics remains considerably limited. Furthermore, water carrying capacity data for Ternate City are insufficient, and comprehensive spatial mapping illustrating the distribution of water provisioning ecosystem service potential has yet to be developed. The method used is a supply-demand comparison approach using a 1" x 1" grid system (±30 m²) with the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to calculate environmental service indices based on landform, vegetation, and land cover parameters. The results show that water provisioning environmental services in Ternate City are dominated by low potential class (very low-low) covering 71.06%, medium potential class 27.52%, and high potential class (high-very high) only 1.42% of the total area. Batang Dua and West Ternate sub-districts have the highest potential with high class percentages of 0.50% and 0.18%, respectively. Land covers contributing the most are Dry Land Forest (0.96%) and Lake (0.28%). The analysis shows that the environmental carrying capacity for water provision in Ternate City is classified as low, influenced by rainfall, groundwater storage capacity, and land use activities. Protection efforts for water provider base areas are needed for sustainable water availability in the future.

Abstract

Indonesia has a high level of plant species diversity and can be utilized by the community. The utilization of these plants has not been widely used by the community in North Maluku, therefore it is important to socialize activities to the community in order to increase public knowledge about multipurpose plants. The service activity was carried out in May 2024. The service participants were community members from Bangko Hamlet, Dodinga Village, West Halmahera Regency. Service activities are carried out by presenting material and providing plant seeds to the community. There are seven types of multipurpose plants socialized, namely ginger (Zingiber officinale), turmeric (Curcuma domestica), lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus), galangal (Alpinia galanga), galangal (Kaempferia galanga), celery (Apium graveolens), and blustru (Luffa cylindrica). To determine the level of community knowledge about multipurpose plants, pre-test and post-test activities were carried out. The results of the community service activities are that the community recognizes and can plant multipurpose plants in the yard and yard, and can utilize them sustainably.

Abstract

The widespread use of nutmeg in North Maluku still focuses on the seeds and mace, which are dried and then sold. This often results in waste nutmeg pulp that is not optimally utilized and is thrown into the environment. Nutmeg pulp, which is the largest part of the nutmeg fruit, can be processed into various products. This community service activity aims to provide additional information and knowledge to women's farmer groups (KWT) in Kaiyasa Village to utilize nutmeg pulp waste into a derivative product, namely nutmeg dodol. The methods used in this activity include counseling and training on the utilization of nutmeg waste into a food product, namely nutmeg dodol, accompanied by technology transfer. The activity was carried out in stages, starting with the counseling stage to provide knowledge related to processing nutmeg pulp waste into dodol, followed by product manufacturing training and technology transfer. After the activity, there was an 80% increase in partners' knowledge level regarding the efficiency and utilization of nutmeg pulp waste and product diversification, namely nutmeg dodol, as obtained from the results of pre-tests and post-tests conducted after the counseling and training activities.

Abstract

Vertikultur merupakan salah satu metode inovatif yang memungkinkan budidaya tanaman dilakukan secara vertikal sehingga dapat mengoptimalkan penggunaan ruang pada lahan terbatas. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan konsep vertikultur sebagai suatu sistem budidaya untuk mendukung pelestarian lingkungan serta memperkenalkan konsep ketahanan pangan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan pada lahan sempit dan terbatas dengan metode yang digunakan berupa sosialisasi dan demonstrasi. Kegiatan pengabdian ini meningkatkan pengetahuan dan memberikan gambaran bahwa penggunaan vertikultur sebagai konsep budidaya tanaman secara vertikal dapat dijadikan alternatif solusi untuk mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan lahan terbatas, dapat dimodifikasi sesuai kebutuhan dan kondisi serta dapat diimplementasikan secara luas sehingga dapat berkontribusi positif terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan dan ketahanan pangan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pola dispersi dan faktor yang mempengaruhi konsentrasi polutan dari sumber emisi tidak bergerak yaitu cerobong asap pabrik di Kecamatan Somba Opu, Kabupaten Gowa. Metode pengambilan sampel dengan moving observation technique yang dilakukan pada pagi hari dan siang hari yang didasarkan pada konsentrasi debu. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan bahwa konsentrasi debu pada pagi hari dipengaruhi oleh kecepatan angin sedangkan konsentrasi debu di siang hari dipengaruhi oleh jarak pengambilan sampel dari sumber emisi. Pola dispersi debu pada pagi hari menyebar ke arah selatan dengan konsentrasi terbesar berada di sebelah timur laut dengan jarak 400 m dari sumber emisi. Sedangkan pada siang hari, pola dispersi mengikuti arah angin dengan konsentrasi terbesar menyebar ke arah timur. Penyebaran dipengaruhi oleh arah dan kecepatan angin.

Abstract

Ternate City is a multi-island municipality characterized by diverse topographic and ecological conditions, exposing it to significant risks of surface runoff, inundation, and flash floods, consequences of its steep volcanic terrain and rapid land cover change. Flood regulation ecosystem services play a critical role in soil and water conservation and sustainable spatial planning. This study assessed the performance of flood regulation ecosystem services based on slope gradient (landform) and land cover across Ternate City using secondary spatial data from the 2022 Environmental Carrying and Assimilation Capacity Document (D3TLH), computed via the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method with a 1" × 1" grid system (approximately 30 m²). Results indicate that flood regulation service performance is dominated by the medium class (41.99%), followed by the high-to-very high class (32.78%), and the low-to-very low class (25.23%). Batang Dua and Ternate Barat sub-districts exhibit the highest ecosystem service performance, with high-to-very high coverage accounting for 13.66% and 6.58% of total area, respectively. Dry Land Forest is the primary contributor to the very high class (27.82%), while plantation land cover dominates the medium class (40.90%). The Mid Volcanic Slope (11.37%) and Tectonic Hills (7.97%) landform units are the largest contributors to the very high class. These findings highlight the urgency of prioritizing soil and water conservation efforts in forested volcanic slopes and tectonic hill areas to sustain long-term flood mitigation capacity.

Abstract

Ferns (Pteridophyta) are spore-reproducing vascular plants important in tropical forest ecosystems, and Indonesia is a global center of their diversity with over 2,000 species. However, fern diversity in North Maluku is still poorly documented. This study aimed to analyze the species composition and diversity of ferns as well as their implications for environmental sustainability in Fogi Village, Sanana District, Sula Islands Regency. The study was conducted across four habitat types: home garden, residential, riverbank, and mixed plantation, using purposive sampling with line transects of 1 km length and 10 m width. Data analysis included the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'), Margalef species richness index (Dmg), and species evenness index (E), complemented by a descriptive-ecological assessment to discuss implications for the sustainability of the local ecosystem. A total of 10 fern species were recorded comprising 229 individuals. The dominant species across habitat types were Pteris tripartita in home garden habitat (9 individuals) and Selaginella sp. in residential (15), riverbank (12), and mixed plantation (17) habitats. The residential habitat recorded the highest values of species diversity (H') and species richness (Dmg) compared to other habitat types. Species evenness (E) approached 1 across all habitats, indicating a relatively balanced distribution of fern species. Ecologically, the Fogi Village area retains potential to sustain its ecosystem functions; however, the low species richness recorded across all habitat types warrants attention in efforts toward sustainable environmental management of the area. In conclusion, the fern community at the research site shows a moderate level of diversity with a relatively even distribution of species across various habitat types. The high uniformity in all habitats indicates the absence of extreme dominance by a single species.
