Abstract

[The Correlation Between Leukopenia and The Severity of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Paediatric Patients of RSUD Wangaya Denpasar from January 2021-August 2021] Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of the most concerning diseases to look out for each year especially on paediatric patients because pediatric patients are more susceptible to severe dengue infection. This is presumably because the microvasculature in children is more prone to plasma leakage. To measure the severity of DHF, a classification by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2011 is used mainly as the standards. This study aims to determine the relationship between leukopenia and the severity of dengue fever in children treated at Wangaya Regional Hospital, Denpasar. The methods this study used is an observational analytic method with cross sectional study by using medical reports as secondary data from January-August 2021 in RSUD Wangaya Denpasar. Subjects are obtained by consecutive sampling with 92 subjects. This study used chi-square analysis (x2) with 95% confidence interval (CI) and P-value of 5%. Data was analyzed using univariate and bivariate model through Statistical Package for the Social Sciences for Windows. The results of this study indicates that the number of subjects with non-shock hemorrhagic dengue fever which is 68.5% appears to be greater than subjects with shock dengue hemorrhagic fever which is 31.5%. The average leukocyte level in the subjects obtained was still in the normal range, namely 4,803 µL. Chi square (x2) distribution table analysis (p=0,092), there is no significant correlation between the leukopenia with the severity of dengue hemorrhagic fever in paediatric patients of RSUD Wangaya Denpasar.

Abstract

Pterygium is a degenerative and invasive fibrovascular growth of the conjunctiva that extends to the cornea in a triangular shape with an apex in the corneal area. The incidence of pterygium in Indonesia is still relatively high as much as 13,1% with the highest prevalence found in Bali at 25,2%. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for the occurrence of pterygium including age, gender, and place of residence that could affect the occurrence of pterygium at the Eye Polyclinic of Tabanan Hospital and was conducted from January 2022 – August 2022. The study used descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The number of subjects was 102 patients that have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study used a secondary data from medical records of pterygium patients in Eye Polyclinic of Tabanan Hospital. The result showed that the incidence of pterygium in the Eye Polyclinoc of Tabanan Hospital was obtained among as many as 84,3% of the subjects. The early elderly group in the range of 46 – 55 years were 36 (35,3%) subjects, 77 (75,5%) of the subjects were women, and 65 (63,7%) of subjects lived in rural areas. It is hoped that this research can be used as aadditional information, and for the agency that is the location of the research, which is the Eye Polyclinic of Tabanan Hospital to improve the recording of medical records so that the information obtained is mor accurate.

Abstract

[Antibacterial Activity Screening of Bacillus sp. PCAR1 from Seaweed Eucheuma spinosum against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria] Microorganisms associated with marine organisms have the potential to produce secondary metabolite compounds with strong antibacterial activity. Previous research has isolated Bacillus sp. bacteria encoded as PCAR1 from Eucheuma spinosum seaweed with antibacterial potential against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. However, the potential bioactivity produced by bacillus sp. PCAR1, especially as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus, still needs to be explored using chemical extraction method. In this research, a total of 100 mL of sterile NB liquid media containing the cell mass of Bacillus sp. PCAR1 was fermented for 5 days and then shaken at 150 rpm. The supernatant was separated from the cell mass by filtration using Whatman filter paper no.1.The filtrate was extracted using ethyl acetate pro-analytics (1:1 v/v). The extracts were analyzed for antibacterial activity using the Kirby-Bauer method, while the chemical composition of the extracts was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) method. Antibacterial screening of ethyl acetate extract of Bacillus sp. PCAR1 showed an inhibition zone of 6.23±0.06 mm against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25293, which is classified as moderate antibacterial activity. GC/MS analysis showed that the ethyl acetate extract contained 10 chemical compounds that have potential as antibacterial, with four dominant active compounds namely p-Xylene (7.26%), Ethanol, 2-butoxy (5.36%), o-Xylene (3.14%), and mesitylene (3.41%). Overall, these results provide an initial overview of antibacterial compounds that can be synthesized by Bacillus sp. PCAR1.
