Abstract

The high volume of plastic waste in Indonesia highlights the urgent need for community empowerment in managing waste creatively and sustainably. This community service program aims to raise awareness and enhance local skills through ecobrick production training in collaboration with the Utit Cokonuri Waste Bank group and its integration into the Strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile Project (P5). The implementation method adopted a participatory approach consisting of four main stages: needs assessment, technical planning, ecobrick training, and ongoing mentoring. The results show significant improvements in participants’ knowledge and technical skills in processing plastic waste into functional ecobricks. A total of 50 ecobrick units were successfully produced as pilot products and utilized as simple public facilities around the waste bank area. In addition, collaboration with partner schools facilitated the integration of ecobrick practice into P5 thematic projects on Sustainable Lifestyles, enabling students to actively participate in waste reduction practices. This success not only generated technical and environmental benefits but also opened economic opportunities through recycled products with added value. The program demonstrates the importance of synergy among universities, communities, and schools to support local sustainable development while strengthening Pancasila values through contextual learning. This empowerment model is expected to be replicated in other areas facing similar challenges to broaden its positive impact. Abstract

Curriculum development needs to be carried out by educational units in anticipation of the increasingly rapid pace of development of Science and Technology. The aim of this research is to understand the process of curriculum development in Indonesia, especially the independent curriculum which is implemented in educational units. As well as knowing the application or implementation of the independent curriculum in 21st century learning. The research method used is literature study, namely data collection techniques carried out by systematically searching scientific literature, whether in the form of journals, articles, books or other sources. The research results show that curriculum development needs to be carried out to produce graduates who are in line with the demands of the future. The implementation of the independent curriculum includes 3 activities, namely intracurricular, co-curricular and extracurricular. Education units can choose the options implemented in the independent curriculum, including independent learning, independent change and independent sharing. The implementation of the independent curriculum must also be in accordance with current 21st century learning which has the characteristics of the 4C abilities that students must have, namely Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze students' perceptions regarding the application of artificial intelligence in science learning materials. The research method used in this study is a descriptive quantitative approach to evaluate the perceptions of elementary school students towards the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in science education in Makassar in June 2024. Data analysis techniques involve descriptive statistics. The subjects of the study consisted of 26 students, with instrument being a 24-item questionnaire using a Likert scale from 1 to 5. This questionnaire was designed to assess students' learning experiences, interests, motivation, benefits, impacts, as well as challenges and expectations. The results indicate that the use of AI in science learning has a significant positive impact, enhancing students' learning experiences, interests, and motivation. The majority of students reported that AI aided them in understanding the material, exam preparation, and learning outcomes. However, there were some challenges such as technical issues and adaptation that need to be addressed. Students have high expectations for the sustainability of this technology. To optimize the benefits of AI and overcome challenges, technical support, training, and adequate infrastructure are needed so that all students can equitably benefit from this technology.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers' perceptions of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in science learning (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam/IPA) in Makassar City. The method used is descriptive quantitative, with data collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 25 junior high school science teachers. The questionnaire was developed based on five main aspects: teaching experience, interest and motivation, benefits and impacts, challenges and obstacles, and expectations regarding the use of AI. The results of the study indicate that the majority of teachers have a positive perception of the integration of AI in science education. Teachers reported benefits in terms of increased student motivation, more innovative learning experiences, and easier explanations of abstract scientific concepts. However, several challenges remain, such as limited access to devices, internet connectivity, and technical skills. Despite these challenges, teachers demonstrate a high level of readiness and enthusiasm to participate in further training and express strong expectations for AI to be formally integrated into the science curriculum. The study recommends policy support, ongoing professional development, and infrastructure improvements to ensure the effective and equitable implementation of AI across schools

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the humanistic science learning approach on the scientific literacy skills of eighth-grade students at SMP IT Yaa Bunayya Makassar. The humanistic science approach is a learning strategy that emphasizes a balance between mastery of scientific concepts and the development of human, moral, and social values. This study employs a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class taught using a humanistic science approach and the control class which received conventional learning, each totaling 28 students. Data were collected through scientific literacy tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using an independent t-test and the N-Gain Score. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the posttest scores of the experimental and control groups with a calculated t-value = 4.82 > t-table = 2.004 (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The average N- Gain value of the experimental group was 0.60 (medium-high category), while the control group was 0.30 (medium-low category). The highest increase was in the socio-scientific context dimension with an N-Gain of 0.62, indicating that students were better able to relate scientific concepts to social reality. Thus, the humanistic science learning approach has a significant effect on improving students' scientific literacy skills, especially in developing conceptual understanding, scientific thinking skills, and social awareness. This approach has also been shown to foster scientific attitudes such as responsibility, empathy, and curiosity. The results of this study confirm that science learning that integrates human values can be an effective strategy in realizing meaningful and character-based science education.
