Abstract

Apart from being a trade commodity and cultural driver, textile is always mentioned as something valuable in Alam Melayu. Some Malay manuscripts such as Sullalatus Salatin (Ahmad, 2003), Tawarikh Raja-Raja Melaka dan Pahang, Tuhfat An-nafis (Haji & Ahmad, 1997) and Hikayat Siak, mentioned that the textile acts as the symbol given when facing someone higher, a sign of friendship between kingdoms, proposing to a king's daughter and the cancellation of a king. Textiles in Alam Melayu are found in various types and forms, the function of the textile and its labels. Using the historical method in reconstructing historical events, this article with the theme of social history states that textile and the art of embroidery among Malay women have been fused in people's lives since the past. Relations with the outside world such as China, India, Arabia and Europe, affect various types and forms, functions of textiles and their names.

Abstract

Malay history and culture cannot be separated from the existence of Penyengat Island. This island once had a strategic role. First, Penyengat Island was the fortress of Raja Haji during the war against the Dutch. Second, as the administrative center of the Riau-Lingga Kingdom. Third, to become the center of Islamic Malay studies which is well-known in the Malay world. Various disciplines have existed on this island. Studies from various disciplines have been carried out. The results mostly recommend that Penyengat Island provide lessons for the life of the Malay community now and in the future. This study uses the historical method through four stages of work, namely heuristics (collection of sources), source criticism (external to the material and internal to the content), interpretation and historiography. The primary sources are Malay manuscripts that were born on Penyengat Island in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The secondary sources are scientific journals and government policies that discuss Penyengat Island. These primary and secondary sources are then analyzed and interpreted. The final stage is historiography to strengthen the narrative and support data for the submission of Penyengat Island as a world heritage. Penyengat Island has a tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The forerunner of the Indonesian language is recognized as being born from there. Penyengat Island deserves to be a world heritage.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the strategy of diplomatic cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore and have bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore and for researchers to understand and analyze the cooperation strategies the two countries have carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method used by the author in this study was qualitative and would answer a more comprehensive phenomenon. This method was sourced from literature studies, written documents, online searches, and other relevant supporting documents that will be used as secondary data collection techniques. Cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore has been established since 1967. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on both countries. Singapore, which is directly adjacent to Batam City, one of the regions in the Riau Islands, Indonesia, was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost all countries carried out various policies limiting mobility from tourists to trade. This pandemic provided new opportunities for Singapore-Indonesia, especially in Batam City, by creating a new collaboration. The strategy to increase cooperation between the two countries in tourism to investment and development is called “Three Bridges,” which consists of travel bubble bridges, infrastructure bridges, and digital bridges. The “Three Bridges” development strategy, to increase cooperation when COVID-19 hit the situation between the two countries, is a multidimensional program in the future. Singapore and Batam City have proximity in the border area of various sectors of cooperation. Thus, this pandemic can increase diplomatic cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore, which is a country that is directly adjacent and assisted by stakeholders between the two countries.

Abstract

Relations between Indonesia and South Korea have started since 1973. One form of diplomacy in relations between South Korea and Indonesia is gastrodiplomacy. Gastrodiplomacy is public diplomacy that uses food or culinary culture with the aim of conveying certain messages. In public diplomacy, gastrodiplomacy aims to practice communication between state to public in promoting state cuisine to the international public through understanding, informing and influencing foreign audiences. These three stages are indispensable for South Korea in promoting gastrodiplomacy in Indonesia. In this study, public diplomacy was conducted to analyze the efforts made by state and non-state actors in introducing South Korean cuisine to Indonesia. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques using literature study. The results of this study found that South Korean gastrodiplomacy uses the K_drama instrument. Korean dramas have been considered successful because they are able to provide a strong influence for the international public to continue watching and provide a sense of curiosity about how Korean culture and food are always displayed. Gastrodiplomacy that has been carried out by South Korea in Indonesia has given good results for its culinary products to continue to develop and be marketed in the Indonesian market.
