Abstract

This study analyses representations of female victims in post-Suharto media. In so doing, it underlines the import of the fall of the New Order regime and the concurrent opening up of the media world in Indonesia. The study is based on notably influential issues that emerged among media producers, feminist activists, social scientists, policy makers, and general audiences during the period of study (1998-2004). Based on observations made in women's NGOs and other institutions concerned with women, interviews and informal conversations with individuals engaged in projects related to female mediation, and content analysis of a large number of mainstream and alternative media presentations, this study finds that the context of the reform (reformasi) in Indonesia constituted a major factor in influencing the changes that affected women and the media, and more importantly, on the burgeoning of the discourse of female victimization. This study also addresses the concepts of ideology, interpellation, identity, and agency to show how the media culture during the reform period, or rather the cultural producers during that time, constructed female victims' identities by sorting out and selecting the representations that represented the context and the history of the regime's change

Abstract

Developing agritourism is a useful strategy to enhance the value of the local agriculture industry. Agritourism utilises agricultural products and activities to attract tourists to rural areas. As an early stage of agritourism development, land conversion has become a supporter of attempts to create agritourism attractions. The notion of locality exists to distinguish and identify the tourism attraction area. This research focuses on durian agritourism in Padukuhan Pranan, Banjaroya Village, Kalibawang, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Jogjakarta. Special attention is made to the dynamics of the local actors. Data collection was carried out using ethnographic methods through observation and in-depth interviews, for approximately three months (July-September 2023). The informants in this research were several actors involved in the development and management of Kampung Durian Pranan agritourism. The study discovered that converting the property to agritourism benefited Padukuhan Pranan by establishing the Kepranan durian as a symbol of local identity. With its central emphasis on the local populace, the Pranan Durian Village Festival serves as an outstanding instance of the substantial contributions made by community members. The collaborative efforts of local actors to effect positive change are exemplified through the festival’s design and execution, which are built upon their roles as initiators, motivators, and educators. However, it is worth noting that the reestablishment of a sustainable family farm as a means to regenerate agritourism’s sustainability has yet to transpire due to the continued dearth of interest among the younger generation in agritourism. Hence, agritourism planning needs to be designed by organising activities involving the younger generation and rebuilding family farms to create resilience and sustainability.

Abstract

The COVID-19 epidemic has impeded tourism activities worldwide. Pancoh Ecotourism Village is an instance of a tourist destination that was compelled to cease its operations amid the pandemic. Nevertheless, that does not imply that nothing can be accomplished.   Amidst the pandemic, it is imperative to create tourism offerings that are more inventive in order to adapt to the new normal period. The Pancoh Ecotourism Village offers an innovative tourism package that combines art and culture based on the concept of storynomics. This study employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method to engage village communities as active participants, rather than just sources of information. The aim is to involve them in the process of gathering, organizing, and presenting narratives about the local arts and culture that define the Ecotourism Villages of Pancoh.   This study discovered that the PAR technique is beneficial for students who are examining the extent of community involvement in developing a work plan, namely in this case, the creation of tour packages based on storynomics. However, PAR encounters challenges such as extended research duration, varying levels of informant motivation, and the researcher's requirement for considerable adaptability in terms of time and ability to engage with informants.

Abstract

The growth of tourism villages is a central tenet of Indonesia’s tourism development policy. Nevertheless, based on the number of affected workers, the tourism village is one of the types of Indonesian tourist destinations hardest impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has nearly entirely paralyzed the majority of tourism-related activities in the tourism village of Nglanggeran in Java. However, one unit has remained operational, namely Griya Cokelat, the women-led cocoa processing work unit. This study seeks to examine the situation of female workers in the tourism village during the pandemic, the capacity of women to acquire technology skills to bolster tourism resilience, and the impact of these activities on domestic relationships. The data collection included observing the working conditions of women in the tourism industry during the pandemic, conducting interviews with eleven informants, and examining pertinent literature. As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was discovered that these women have had to learn more keenly how to use technology in order to shift their offline to online sales. Their technological adaptation has helped the tourism village’s resilience efforts.  Women’s ability to use technology—in this example, the Internet—supports the change in gender roles in families.
