Abstract

Following the announcement by the national government of the cases of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, tourism activities in various destinations in Indonesia, including the Pancoh Ecotourism Village, as one of the partners of the UGM Tourism Studies Program, were immediately postponed. This condition impacted the local economic circulation as the income of the population decreased. In the background of this pandemic scenario, tourism operations will hopefully be resumed as soon as possible. The Community Service Program was therefore carried out in order to achieve the key objective; to create a promotional video for the Pancoh Ecotourism Village in preparation for re-operation under a new health protocol via collaborative work. The other goal of this Community Service Program is to fulfill the commitment to higher education through Tridarma. In addition, a Community Partnership was formed to assist the Pancoh Ecotourism Team in particular and the Village Community in general in the planning of post-pandemic tourism activities to encourage the sustainability of tourism in the village concerned. This program used Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) which consists of five stages, from project design to reporting, as an approach. The results of the program include a video training program and a virtual video promotion of the Pancoh Ecotourism Village. Public engagement and institutional collaboration have been important and considered to be the key to success of this program. By the end of the program, video promotion will be released via the social media of Pancoh. ===== Menyusul pengumuman pemerintah pusat tentang kasus pandemi Covid-19 pada Maret 2020, kegiatan pariwisata di berbagai destinasi di Indonesia, termasuk Desa Ekowisata Pancoh, sebagai salah satu mitra Program Studi Pariwisata UGM, langsung ditunda. Kondisi ini berdampak pada peredaran ekonomi lokal seiring dengan penurunan pendapatan penduduk. Dengan latar belakang situasi pandemi ini, kegiatan pariwisata diharapkan dapat segera dilanjutkan. Oleh karena itu, Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat dilaksanakan untuk mencapai tujuan utama; membuat video promosi untuk Desa Ekowisata Pancoh dalam persiapan untuk beroperasi kembali di bawah protokol kesehatan baru melalui kerja kolaboratif. Tujuan lain dari Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk memenuhi komitmen pendidikan tinggi melalui Tridarma. Selain itu, kerjasama komunitas dibentuk untuk membantu Tim Ekowisata Pancoh pada khususnya dan Masyarakat Desa pada umumnya dalam perencanaan kegiatan wisata pasca pandemi untuk mendorong keberlanjutan pariwisata di desa yang bersangkutan. Program ini menggunakan Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) yang terdiri dari lima tahap, mulai dari desain proyek hingga pelaporan, sebagai pendekatan. Hasil dari program ini antara lain program pelatihan video dan promosi video virtual Desa Ekowisata Pancoh. Keterlibatan publik dan kolaborasi kelembagaan menjadi penting dan dianggap sebagai kunci keberhasilan program ini. Di akhir program, video promosi akan dirilis melalui media sosial Pancoh.

Abstract

RINGKASANRaminten Cabaret Show adalah salah satu hiburan yang berada di Raminten 3 Resto, Gedung Hamzah Batik Malioboro Yogyakarta. Istilah kabaret di Raminten 3 Resto berarti sebuah pertunjukan layaknya konser musik (lipsync), para laki-laki yang berdandan seperti perempuan atau disebut sebagai draq queen, mengenakan busana yang dirancang agar dapat menyerupai artis-artis papan atas Indonesia bahkan diva dunia dan dilengkapi dengan riasan wajah yang menguatkan terbentuknya karakteristik seorang draq queen. Permasalahan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis perkembangan bentuk penyajian Raminten Cabaret Show berdasarkan elemen-elemen pendukungnya seperti tema, gerak, musik, tata rias dan busana serta tata rupa pentas. Hal tersebut dikarenakan keinginan dari pemilik Hamzah Batik yakni Hamzah Sulaiman untuk menjadikan pertunjukan Raminten Cabaret Show sebagai tujuan wisata. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori bentuk penyajian dari Soedarsono dengan pendekatan kualitatif etnografi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik studi literatur, observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Raminten Cabaret Show telah mengalamati perkembangan bentuk penyajian karena adanya kreativitas dari setiap pemainnya. Selain itu, keinginan dari pemilik untuk menjadikannya sebagai tujuan wisata juga membuat tim manajemen terus melakukan perbaikan dari semua sisi pertunjukan Raminten Cabaret Show.ABSTRACTRaminten Cabaret Show is one of the entertainment venues located at Raminten 3 Resto, Hamzah Batik Malioboro Building Yogyakarta. The term cabaret at Raminten 3 Resto means a show like a music concert (lip sync), men who dress up as women or referred to as draq queens, wearing clothes designed to resemble Indonesia's top artists and even world divas and equipped with facial makeup that strengthens the formation of the characteristics of a draq queen. The problem of this research is that Raminten Cabaret Show has developed in the form of its presentation. This is due to the desire of the owner of Hamzah Batik, Hamzah Sulaiman, to make the Raminten Cabaret Show a tourist destination. This research aims to see the development of the presentation form of Raminten Cabaret Show by using Soedarsono's presentation form theory. This research analyzes the development of the presentation form of Raminten Cabaret Show based on supporting elements such as theme, motion, music, makeup and clothing and stage layout. This research was conducted at Hamzah Batik Building on the third floor using a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data collection was done by using literature study, observation, interview and documentation techniques. The results showed that Raminten Cabaret Show has experienced the development of the form of presentation due to the creativity of each player. In addition, the desire of the owner to make it a tourist destination also makes the management team continue to make improvements from all sides of the Raminten Cabaret Show

Abstract

Gerbang Etam Orchestra is a musical group that is always present at the Erau International Folk Arts Festival. Gerbang Etam Orchestra has a characteristic performance by combining Kutai Kartanegara ethnic music with a mass format. The purpose of this research is to identify the form of the Gerbang Etam Orchestra performance to review the use of the term “orchestra” whether it is in accordance with the rules of the music. This study used a qualitative method with an ethnomusicological approach to see the phenomenon of music which is influenced by hybridity and produces invention. This study uses Eric Hobsbawm's theory, the invention of tradition. The data analyzed were the results of observations, interviews, audio and video recordings. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques by means of data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and data verification. The results showed that the use of the term orchestra at the Gerbang Etam Orchestra produced a form of performance that had similar characteristics to orchestras in general. Even though it uses the term Western music, Gerbang Etam Orchestra still emphasizes the distinctive characteristics of Kutai Kartanegara ethnic music which is owned as a regional identity. Abstract

Classical music notation is a basis for studying Western classical music instruments (including violin) in formal institution with majoring classical music. Based on pre-observation the author knows the classical music notation has undergoing adjustment in non-formal institution (music course), one of them is at Jogja Music School course violin class, so this research will discuss how a classical music notation play a role for students in the violin process in Jogja Music School. This research used a qualitative method with a musicological approach, that is done with observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the data obtained from two students, it was found that one student played pop songs with classical music notation in different ways (playing improve) and author found the other student played pop songs without classical music notation, therefore in the discussion section the comparative technique is used to analyze the learning process of the two students. The results of this research showed that classical music notation has a role in forming the disciplinary attitude of students in playing a musical piece. The discipline in playing a musical piece includes the discipline of reading rhythm and melody, also discipline in playing the violin technique as written on the score.

Abstract

The sustainability of traditional performing arts in the modern era requires innovative strategies to ensure cultural relevance and intergenerational transmission. This study investigates the cultural transmission process within the Wayang On The Street (WOTS) performance, held in the Old Town area of Semarang in 2024, as a collaborative model integrating traditional values into contemporary public spaces. Employing a descriptive qualitative case study, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with artists, cultural officials, and community members, and documentation of the Pandawa Pitu performance during the Semarang Old Town Festival. The analysis focuses on the interaction among actors within the pentahelix framework—academics, government, business, media, and community—in sustaining traditional performing arts in urban contexts. Findings reveal that WOTS serves not only as a platform for artistic expression but also as a medium for cultural education, public participation, and community empowerment. The synergy among stakeholders strengthens the adaptive capacity of traditional arts and fosters sustainable cultural ecosystems. This study contributes to the theoretical development of cultural transmission by emphasizing the role of multi-stakeholder collaboration as a foundation for innovative cultural preservation in contemporary society.

Abstract

This research examines the choreographic work of Susas Rita Loravianti, particularly Perempuan dan Rumah Gadang, as sites of feminist resistance and spatial emplacement within the Minangkabau village. While existing scholarship on Minangkabau often romanticizes its matrilineal system, this study identifies a gap in understanding how women's bodies actively negotiate the matrilineal paradox, the tension between symbolic female power in the ancestral home and formal male authority in public discourse. Drawing on a two-year ethnographic approach (2022–2024), the research employs participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and detailed gestural mapping to analyze the creative process. The study integrates Doreen Massey's concept of relational space with Gay McAuley's performance spatiality to argue that Loravianti's choreography transcends mere illustration, constituting a subversive critical perspective that reimagines the village (kampuang) as a dynamic arena of global social relations. The findings suggest that the performance functions as a subaltern counterpublic, empowering women to develop oppositional identities in opposition to the restrictive behavioral codes of the Sumbang Duo Baleh. Furthermore, the research considers the limitations of this artistic strategy, questioning the inclusivity of the performance space for non-elite women within the village and examining the potential for artistic abstraction to obscure pressing socio-political crises.

Abstract

The participation of women ulama in Aceh has grown alongside the tightening of religious regulations. However, Southeast Asian scholarship on piety and agency rarely unpacks dayah's institutional mechanisms—especially the conversion of ethical capital into institutional recognition through negotiation and strategy within conventional (male-dominated) leadership arenas. To address this gap, drawing on qualitative data (interviews, observation, and forum documentation), this study examines: (i) the formation of piety and credentials among teungku inong; (ii) strategies for negotiating authority across compliance and resistance; and (iii) the conditions that render leadership legitimacy contingent. The findings show the cultivation of piety through a dayah–university trajectory, mastery of turāth texts and sanad networks, ritual discipline, and varied sartorial expressions; and the expansion of authority via the lexicon of musāwah, alternative spaces (beut seumeubeut and protection services), participation in formal bodies, sanad networks, and collaborations with NGOs. Overall, women's religious legitimacy in Aceh is contextual and contingent, emerging at the intersection of piety and institutional recognition, and shifting between transformation and co-optation. Keterlibatan ulama perempuan di Aceh meningkat seiring penguatan regulasi keagamaan, sementara kajian tentang kesalehan dan agensi di Asia Tenggara masih jarang mengurai mekanisme institusional dayah—khususnya konversi modal etis sebagai negosiasi dan strategi dalam arena kepemimpinan konvensional yang didominasi laki-laki. Untuk mengisi kekosongan tersebut dengan berbasis data kualitatif (wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi forum), studi ini memfokuskan pada: (i) pembentukan kesalehan dan kredensial teungku inong; (ii) strategi negosiasi otoritas antara kepatuhan dan resistensi; dan (iii) kondisi yang membuat legitimasi kepemimpinan bersifat kontingen. Temuan menunjukkan pembudayaan kesalehan melalui lintasan dayah–kampus, penguasaan kitab turāth, disiplin ritual, dan ragam ekspresi busana; perluasan otoritas lewat kosakata musāwah, ruang alternatif (beut seumeubeut dan layanan perlindungan), partisipasi di lembaga formal, jejaring sanad, dan kolaborasi LSM. Temuan menegaskan legitimasi keagamaan perempuan di Aceh bersifat kontekstual-kontingen, lahir dari persilangan kesalehan dan rekognisi kelembagaan, serta bergerak antara transformasi dan ko-optasi.

Abstract

This article discusses strategies employed by young Japanese-language learners to accumulate cultural capital related to Japanese language proficiency within a field that is undergoing significant transformation due to the development of internet technology. These technological developments have reshaped the field by enabling autonomous accumulation of Japanese-language cultural capital, expanding opportunities for flexible learning, and opening up spaces for personalized learning. Based on a qualitative study of four informants, this article identifies three main patterns of youth strategies for navigating online learning activities. These strategies are shaped by reflexivity, which interacts with their habitus, digital capital, and previously accumulated forms of capital. These strategies are referred to in this article as systematic exploration, selective-limited exploration, and affective exploration. Through these strategies, the youth, who are agents in the field of Japanese language learning, mobilize their habitus, digital capital, and other previously accumulated capital to respond to, adapt to, and negotiate within the dynamics of a field increasingly structured by digital technologies.

Abstract
