Abstract

The students’ literacy became lower since the hybrid learning also has its weaknesses, namely students feel bored because the learning process is monotonous and less interesting. Thus, the students are not interested in learning and completing learning carried out in e-learning. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of learningproject-based learning assisted by peer assessment in hybrid learning to improve students' critical thinking skills as the implementation of literacy practices. The study uses the posttest only control group design. The population of this study was all second semester English Education Study Program students in PGRI University of Palembang, totaling 170 students. Descriptive statistical analysis techniques are used to describe the data obtained. The hypothesis testing used is the t-test to test the significant level of the influence of the independent variables partially on the dependent variable. The test is carried out by comparing t-count with t-table. The results of the analysis show that the value of Sig. obtained less than 0.05. This means that there are differences in students' critical thinking skills being taught project-based learning(PBL) assisted by peers with students who are taught without learning project-based learning(PBL) assisted by peers. The implications of this research are that it is hoped that with this learning model students will learn more actively in building their own knowledge as the literacy processes which will have an impact on critical thinking skills.

Abstract

In today’s digital technology era, humans orientate toward material fulfillment. This manner often neglects his care about nonhuman organisms and the natural environment in general. The impacts are that nowadays temperature is getting higher and biodiversity is dwindling or disappearing due to the rising temperature and deforested lands. Global warming is the ongoing climatic phenomenon that is now prevalent on earth today along with the surging digitalization in daily social and cultural life. Humans need to retreat and think it over in order to prevent the condition from deteriorating and from further catastrophes. Poetry as one literary genre might be one outlet for humans to think about what it means to be humans in this one and only earth household. Contemporary American poems are the epitome of raising present issues about anthropocentrism and its impacts on the degradation of the physical environment. This brief paper discusses some American contemporary poems of Denise Levertov, Susan Stewart, and Robinson Jeffers. Levertov’s poem “Brother Ivy”; Stewart’s long poem “The Rose”; and Jeffers’s poem, “Life from the Lifeless” are the epitome of poetic works that aim to humanize and anthropomorphize nonhuman things and organisms such as forest, rock, and plant. These are the actions humans should do to preserve the biotic life from demolition because of various anthropogenic activities. Reading and understanding ecological views in these poems as a poetic discourse helps ones to ecologize their thoughts and action to sustain the planetary robustness.

Abstract

Poetry should not only be dulce but also utile or being sweet and useful as what a Latin poet Horatius once said. The essence of usefulness is very indispensable in this recent post-truth era when the surging digital technology has contributed to the an escalating anthropocentric culture. Consumerism and other anthropogenic activities that pervade human daily life are the very epitome of this anthropocentrism. An obvious impact but also a polemical controversy of these practices is global warming as one ecological phenomenon. Ecopoetry as a sub-genre of environmental humanities or ecocriticism aims to unveil the truth that the biotic community consists of the interdependent relation between human and nonhuman animals and their physical environment. This ecological fact is an indisputable truth that differs from the one of social or political facts. Gary Snyder and Jack Spicer as two poets of the San Francisco Renaissance movement in the 1950s are two figures who show concern about human interconnection with material phenomena. In their succinct poems, they open one’s awareness that any material good is not an object but that each material thing co-exists with one’s consciousness in certain time and place. Their landscape poetics then is able to evoke one’s understanding of his/her interconnection with any life form in the natural world. This ecological awareness would impact on human savvy ways in consuming goods to fulfill daily necessities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine how the online PjBL Mixidea debate technique ought to be incorporated into the digital technology learning orientations at UPGRI Palembang to help students with their public speaking. The study employed a quasi-experimental technique known as a non-equivalent UPGRI Palembang. Data collection procedures: (1) validity; (2) reliability. A statistically significant difference was found in post-experiment speaking test scores between the experimental group and the control group, as compared to pre-experiment scores. Results improved for students who were taught with the PjBL Mixidea online debate method. When compared to the control group, the experimental group generally performs better on post-tests. After administering eight different treatments to students in class X at UPGRI Palembang, the authors found that PjBL Mixidea's online debate strategy boosted students' public speaking skills. The students are in agreement that employing PjBL Mixidea's method of online discussion can help them become better public speakers. Students who were educated using PjBL Mixidea's online debate approach clearly outperformed those who were not.

Abstract

One of the most important skills in studying English, particularly for EFL students, is writing recount texts. However, a lot of students struggle to grasp the components needed to write the texts. With the focus on linguistic and structural components, this study investigates difficulties faced by tenth-grade students at SMA Al Fusha Kedungwuni when producing recount texts. Furthermore, it examined how students perceive these difficulties and how their perspectives correspond with the understanding of the writing process. A mixed-methods technique was used in the study, which combined an analysis of the students' recount texts with a survey of their perceptions. The text reveals that students face structural and linguistic difficulties in writing recount texts. Structural difficulties include unclear chronological order, inadequate orientation, unclear events, weak or missing reorientation, and difficulty managing length and detail. Linguistic difficulties include tense usage, vocabulary choice, cohesion, grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation. Students' perceptions show sufficient engagement with critical stages of the writing process, such as planning and revising. However, self-reported data may introduce bias, as students may not accurately assess their own difficulties. This highlights a gap between self-awareness and actual performance in writing recount texts. The findings suggest the need for teachers to emphasize their teaching on recount text structure, incorporating activities to strengthen understanding. In addition, students should master past tense grammatical rules and practice changingpresent tense to past tense. Curriculum developers should emphasize the writing process, provide detailed explanations, and integrate grammar instruction.
