Abstract

In Bali, where political life is largely determined by tradition and the role of Sukarno, the main challenge is to create a cadre system unrelated to mass organizations (gangs), to oligarchy links and to traditional networks (puri/local rulers and Sukarno affiliations). To coin Riswandha Imawan?s words, there is “cadre confusion” in that the existing cadres tend not to hee d the goals of the 1998 Movement: they neglect their working duties, fail to pay taxes and do not care about political education -all things mandatory in a democracy. Aware of these failings, Academics from FISIP Udayana University, later supported by colleagues from Warmadewa University and the University of National Education, and by AIPI Bali and several women NGOs, proposed to set up a center for political parties and local Government, which would work with Udayana University’s revitalized Tax Center (different from the website Imissu at Udayana University information technology service). In the hope of getting support from the political parties cadres, the FISIP Udayana undertook a series of Focus Group Discussions of cadres followed by a survey. But the cadres refused the ?political clinic? proposed by FISIP as part of the project implementation. A new solution is now put forward by the research team: through the IbIKK (Ipteks bagi Inovatif Kreativitas Kampus), the FISIP Udayana simply proposes to revitalize the Tax Center and to Establish a Political Parties and Local Government Studies Center annexed to the Institute for Peace and Democracy/IPD at Udayana University in Denpasar.

Abstract

Adat regulations in Bali is not only contradict dualism of men and women as purusa pradana, it gives the mipil (registration at village level) to men. Besides this patriarchy system, in marriage especially there is alsowangsa influence; they are the groups of Brahmin, Ksatria, Waisya and Sudra. Each group as Etzioni[1] (1968)suggests taking up different positions in Balinese active society. They are bounded in patterns of banjar with Awig-awig (written agreement), in familial (menyama braya) or clan patterns, and complex marriage engagements. Ategen asuwun is a newly concept of inheritance  (2 parts for sons and 1 part for daughters) based on marriage engagement for contemporary Balinese adat regulations. Wangsa system in adat marriage is the impetus of Balinese women’s problems. Marriage  is displacing women as limited ninggal kedaton from theirfathers temple to their husband’s temple. Social construction in society has prohibited a high caste/wangsa woman to marry lower caste man (nyerorod marriage). This wangsa system has limited Balinese women’s right to inherit even they are in the same clan and wangsa. As a result, never marriage woman is one of the choise to get her inheritance. In the anuloma marriage where as a high caste man marry a lower caste woman, the concept of limited ninggal kedaton is still taking place and modern familial system has given daughers the one part of tatadan inheritance. However, the anomaly is given to a newly religious converted woman by marriage where is full ninggal kedaton gives no inheritance at all to her. Key words: Balinese women, Intercaste marriage, Inheritance rights[1]Lihat bab 15 pada buku Margareth M Poloma, Sosiologi Kontemporer (Rajawali Pers, 2013) hal 352-373.

Abstract

The research focuses on “front and back stage” such as exposed in in-depth interviews of two drag queens: Mami Salsa and Mami Sisca, the first one from Denpasar, the second from Singaraja in North Bali. Mami Salsa started working as a drag queen in the late 90s and retired from performing in 2020. Having had a wife and children, he dresses as a man and is now considered a senior drag queen; he is not in good health, so he rarely performs and instead mentors young drag queen performers. As for Mami Sisca, “she” stopped performing as a drag queen in November 2019 and now works as a popular English teacher for kids as well as a cat and dog rescuer. She still dresses as a woman, and having gained wide social recognition during her “front stage” drag queen days, “she” is now a respected figure of Singaraja’s community. Socially integrated, both Mami Salsa and Mami Sisca show the type of positive evolution of urban tourism that shows people, place and poverty as aspects of the lives of drag queens. One of the ways that could help ordinary drag queens to follow the steps of Mami Salsa and Mami Sisca would indeed be for the hotel and restaurant association to give full recognition to their performing arts profession. This research advocates the drag queens coalition of Bali to have the pocket book and the web site to make their profession sound and legal.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the existence of social pressure in maintaining self-image and prestige in theconsumptive behavior of church youth which is seen from its relationship with endorsement and intensityof watching TikTok. This study aims to determine how significant the relationship of endorsement byinfluencers and the intensity of watching TikTok is to consumptive behavior using Baudrillard's theory ofconsumption society. The method used is a quantitative paradigm with multi-stage sampling techniques torespondents totaling 239 people, namely church youth lin lDenpasar. In lorder to provel land thel lrelationshipin data, the validity and reliability tests of the questionnaire items were used, determining the correlationcoefficient (R), classical assumption test, multiple linear regression test as well as the F test and T test. Theresults of the t-test at a 5% margin of error show that endorsement by influencers is 1.182 and for theintensity of watching TikTok is 1.148. Likewise with the F test, where the F-test result is 21.123. The strengthof the relationship formed is at a moderate level with an R of 0.578. While the regression equation modelobtained is Y = 0.392 X1 + 1.015 X2. The resulting coefficient of determination is 33.4% which is thepercentage contribution of variables X1 and X2 to Y. While the other 66.6% is explained by other factors, namely addiction to watching TikTok. Based on the results of this study, it is strongly recommended thatthe variable coefficients of endorsement by TikTok influencers and TikTok viewing intensity do not expandexponentially towards high intervals.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the existence of a significant association between the use of digital media, namely social media and e-Learning, and the phenomenon known as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Udayana University. Przyblylski's (2013) theory of FOMO will be used to guide the quantitative research strategy. A sample size of 128 students was collected via distributing a Google Form link to complete the questionnaire, with a margin of error of 5% (0.05). The population for this research included all currently enrolled FISIP students who were taking lectures in their 7th semester, with a total of 321 individuals. The sampling approach used was the Slovin formula, which is represented by the equation n = N: 1 + Ne2. This study used observation and questionnaires as its data collection methods. This inquiry included classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression, correlation analysis, and pooled variance testing. The findings of this research indicate that there is no statistically significant relationship between the usage of e-Learning by FISIP Unud students and FOMO. As a result, the hypothesis Ha1 is rejected and the hypothesis H01 is accepted. A correlation value of 0.327 suggests a weak association between FOMO and e-Learning in the correlation relationship. The usage of social media has a strong correlation with the fear of missing out (FOMO) among FISIP Unud students. This is supported by the statistical significance of the social media variable (X2) on FOMO (Y), with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, and a t-value of 5.172, which is more than the critical t-value of 1.657. Thus, Ha2 is deemed acceptable whereas H02 is deemed unacceptable. The correlation data indicate a moderate link (r=0.499) between the fear of missing out (FOMO) and social media.

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the depiction of patriarchal culture and women's resistance to patriarchal culture in the Barbie Live Action film, which is then analyzed using the perspective of Luce Irigaray's postmodern feminism, and analyzed using the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki Framing method. This study aims to explain and analyze the elements of patriarchy and women's resistance in the Barbie Live Action film. This study uses qualitative research methods and framing analysis methods, with qualitative data sourced from primary and secondary data. The data that has been collected will then be analyzed using the framing method involving four main structures, namely syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. Based on the data that has been presented, the conclusion that can be obtained is that in the Barbie Live Action Film, Barbie is no longer just a passive symbol of beauty, but becomes a strong agent of change. The film also features various female characters with diverse backgrounds, which shows that resistance against patriarchy is not uniform but multidimensional, so that this film can be said to reflect Irigaray's thoughts on the need to celebrate differences among women and form strong solidarity to fight domination. This film also reflects Irigaray's view that language and representation play an important role in the oppression of women. In addition to being entertainment, this film can also be used as an educational tool by packaging the narrative of resistance against patriarchy in an interesting and accessible form.
