Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the emergence of the phenomenon of mutual flexing carried out by Muhammadiyah universities on TikTok social media. So far, every business entity that carries out promotions for its agency tends to avoid offending other agencies and only focuses on discussing the advantages of its products, even if it has to touch other institutions. This has never been done openly. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with phenomenological analysis. The author collected data with participant observation to find out the participants’ essential phenomena in their life experiences. In this case, the author managed the content of official social media creators of Muhammadiyah Universities who created TikTok publication content. Then based on the data obtained from the resource persons, the author draws a research conclusion. The conclusion of this study shows that flexing activities carried out by content creators of Muhammadiyah Universities have the potential to become a new form of publication style that has never existed before among universities.

Abstract

This research will serve as a major source of information for scientists who specialize in the study of health communication, particularly that related to music’s role. This study aims to assess how the field of research on the role of music in health communication has developed. The Scopus database was searched using the keywords “music” and “health communication” to find 904 documents containing this study’s data. After that, the author offers search parameters by only including publications in English-language journals between 2014 and 2022. As a result of these limitations, 300 document results were found that matched the required criteria. The VOSviewer and Bibliometric software were used to process the data. This research found that music has a significant role in health communication, particularly when it comes to issues involving mental health, such as depression, dementia, and anxiety in both adults and children. In the future, this research can be developed regarding how health communication can be developed through media intermediaries other than music.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the development of scholarly discussions on the function of journalism within the field of communication studies. The keywords “communication” and “democracy” were used to search the Scopus database, resulting in 1,367 documents relevant to the scope of this research. Then, search criteria were applied by limiting the inclusion of articles to English-language journal publications published between 2013 and 2022. Based on these parameters, 527 documents met the research criteria. The data were subsequently processed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix software. The outputs from both applications were combined to generate visual graphs that enabled the author to analyze and summarize the research findings. The study concludes that journalism, particularly in areas related to democracy, such as investigative journalism, press freedom, participatory journalism, and political dialogue, plays a significant role in advancing democratic processes. Future research on journalism and democracy may benefit from adopting thematic academic study formats and trending topics as reference points. The establishment of journalism grounded in democratic principles shows strong potential for success.
