Abstract

This research used qualitative research method. The research design of this study is descriptive study. The researcher used interview as the instruments. The participants in this study were teachers of SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda and the researcher took three teachers. The research used purpose sampling technique. In this research the data collection techniques is using interviews to find out the types of teacher talk and the reasons for the teacher used teacher talk. The findings showed that there are three teachers talk used by teacher such as asking question, lecturing and giving direction. Nevertheless, there are three main reasons for the teacher used the teacher talk such as students’ language ability, students’ motivation and students’ participation.

Abstract

This study intended to find out problems encountered by students when learning English through e-learning. This research is to find out what problems faced by students when learning English through E-Learning which is identified through a questionnaire distributed via Google forms to the students. The sample of this research was 86 students of the third-grade students of SMP Katolik 1 WR. In this study, the researcher computed the data used frequency distribution analysis to determine the percentage of the tendency of student's problems in internal or external factors when using e-learning in English learning. Both in terms of internal and external factors, each part is interrelated. The problem that happened with the teachers, then to the students, and eventually impacts the learning system which makes ineffective e-learning in the school, they are affecting each other and create a domino effect.

Abstract

As one of the most popular social media in this modern era, YouTube is also playing a role in education. Technology, which is part of student life, can offer useful feedback, especially in facilitating, increasing knowledge and English skills. An audio-visual model that can be accessed anywhere can make students feel more open about thoughts, opinions, questions, and be more comfortable and motivated in learning English. This article reports a qualitative study that finds out students' perceptions of English learning through YouTube are beneficial and help them learn English. 5 students who use the YouTube application as a media for learning English in SMK Negeri 17 participated in this study, and data were collected through interview-based on case study design. The results of this study find out all of the students have many benefits to improve their English skills, and very easy to access in almost every student's gadget and it can be used in every situation for help and motivated them to learn English. The students are only feeling the difficulty if the internet connection is not good. All of the students are given positive responses about the use of YouTube application in learning English.

Abstract

One of the online-based games that are popular right now is PUBG. This online-based game is good to be used as an alternative for the student to learn vocabulary. This study aims to compare whether to learn English vocabulary through PUBG online game than pre adopted course. This paper utilized a pre-test and post-test questionnaire to gather the data. There are observations and reactions to digital games. This study indicated that after playing PUBG the students' mean score is significantly higher than before playing the game, showing the beneficial effect of using video games to improve students' English vocabulary. Video games have basic representations of perception that are interactive. Therefore, from an optimistic viewpoint, integrating video games into the learning process must be viewed. It is not a simple task to create video games packed with instructional features, but it is a standard solution to better understand their assignments. Via problem-solving, decision-making, conclusion-making and collaborative study with their peers, students learn cognitive and beneficial components in addition to fun. Not only do students know about the subject, but they also develop their personalities.

Abstract

Along with the development of technology in various aspects of life, technology has a significant impact and influence in today's life. One of the roles of technology in learning activities is to support the learning activities more manageable to accomplish and exciting in the educational sector. One of the developments of technology in the education sector is E-Learning. E-Learning may be an option to be used in class as a learning tool. Especially on English subject when some students may find it difficult, E-Learning could be their alternative to learn English the significance of this study to find out the students' perspective regarding E-Learning in English. The data will be conducted by distributing a questionnaire to students. The objectives of this study are to find out attitudes from students toward E-Learning. The study was conducted in Bunga Bangsa Islamic Junior High School involving 56 students. A questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect the data, which score analyzed based on the mean score. The result showed students have positive attitudes toward E-Learning. In terms of students' attitudes, it is found that students have positive attitudes toward E-Learning since they found E-Learning is appropriate to use, effective, and excellent technique to help them learn English.

Abstract

In teaching learning process, the target language is an important thing which has been noticed by the teacher. The phenomenon about misunderstanding language is not only occurring in daily life with soft conversation but also in the formal education. In education event, when the teacher teaches students in the classroom, they use target language during activities. The aims of this study were to describe the teacher’s hurdles in using target language at first grade of Junior high school and how the teacher delivered instruction by using target language at EFL class. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. This study used a qualitative description. Five English teachers were involved. The researcher collected the data as interview, and observation. Referring to the finding of the study, based on result of interview found the teachers problems used target language in teaching learning process, such as; the low vocabulary of the students, the ability of English skill of the students, the situation in the classroom did not support the use of target language, the time was not effective. Based on the findings of classroom observation in classroom the teacher delivered used the target language in simple sentence on greeting, giving instruction, asking question, delivering materials and closing.

Abstract

This research study Exploring the use of the TPACK framework in listening classrooms. This research focuses on how the teacher develops instrument design in listening classroom with the TPACK framework. Data collection consisted of classroom observation, a checklist with indicator guide and field notes Findings the result there is different the teacher 1 and 2 with developing instrument design in listening classroom with TPACK Framework. The different teacher 1 dominant with CK ( content knowledge) and PK ( pedagogical knowledge) and able to is able to design lesson plan involved technology, taught used technology that appropriates with learning material, and she manages the class by using technology. This the conclusion of the research in SMA Budi Bakti about developing instrument design in the listening classroom with TPACK framework

Abstract

The study expects to an investigation of derivational appends in the content of initiation discourse by Steve Jobs. The essayist utilized the majority of the words that were connected prefix and postfix as the information. The information sources were all content of initiation discourse by Steve Jobs. This study utilizing subjective plan and substance investigation approach. The aftereffect of the study demonstrated that there were 78 all out words in the content of Commencement discourse which joined derivational fastens. Abstract

Speaking as one of the four skills in English is seen as the most crucial skill to be mastered by English learners.  For most people the successes in learning a language can be seen from how far the student can speak and communicate in the language learn. But in fact, speaking is often neglected in the classroom. The objective of this research is to investigate techniques in teaching speaking skill in second semester of primary school department of Widya Gama Mahakam University. This study employs the qualitative design by which the researcher intends to discover and understand techniques of teaching speaking used by the lecture in its natural setting. The subject of this research was second semester students of primary school department. This study reveals four techniques employed by the lecturer in teaching speaking skill,   i.e. show-and-tell,   presentation,   drama making,   and question and answer. Show-and-tell and presentation technique are two types of performance talk which were used more often by the lecturer than the two other techniques (i.e. drama making and question and answer).

Abstract

The need for speaking mastery in English has been dramatically increasing because of the confirmed position of English as a language for international communication. Unfortunately, most of students get less of appreciation in classroom speaking activities. Therefore, to establish a natural approach where students could develop L2 fluency more effectively than what has occurred inside the classroom, the researchers tried Pair Taping (PT) in their Speaking Class. A number of studies have indicated that using PT facilitate students’ fluency and confidence (Washburn & Christianson: 1996, Kubo: 2009, Kluge & Taylor: 2000, and Nguyen: 2012). This current study attempted at answering the questions related to: 1) the potential benefit of PT upon the students’ speaking fluency, 2) the students’ perspectives on their English speaking performance, and 3) the students’ attitudes toward PT. The findings revealed that pair taping could be conducive to promote students’ speaking fluency along with developing their knowledge of language. It also advances our understanding of how pair taping makes contribution to foreign language learning and provide useful insight to teachers, lecturers or course designers in designing speaking course. The implementation of this study was found to be helpful in building up students’ speaking skills by offering innovative learning experience to students.
