Abstract

The study expects to an investigation of derivational appends in the content of initiation discourse by Steve Jobs. The essayist utilized the majority of the words that were connected prefix and postfix as the information. The information sources were all content of initiation discourse by Steve Jobs. This study utilizing subjective plan and substance investigation approach. The aftereffect of the study demonstrated that there were 78 all out words in the content of Commencement discourse which joined derivational fastens. Abstract

Speaking as one of the four skills in English is seen as the most crucial skill to be mastered by English learners.  For most people the successes in learning a language can be seen from how far the student can speak and communicate in the language learn. But in fact, speaking is often neglected in the classroom. The objective of this research is to investigate techniques in teaching speaking skill in second semester of primary school department of Widya Gama Mahakam University. This study employs the qualitative design by which the researcher intends to discover and understand techniques of teaching speaking used by the lecture in its natural setting. The subject of this research was second semester students of primary school department. This study reveals four techniques employed by the lecturer in teaching speaking skill,   i.e. show-and-tell,   presentation,   drama making,   and question and answer. Show-and-tell and presentation technique are two types of performance talk which were used more often by the lecturer than the two other techniques (i.e. drama making and question and answer).

Abstract

The need for speaking mastery in English has been dramatically increasing because of the confirmed position of English as a language for international communication. Unfortunately, most of students get less of appreciation in classroom speaking activities. Therefore, to establish a natural approach where students could develop L2 fluency more effectively than what has occurred inside the classroom, the researchers tried Pair Taping (PT) in their Speaking Class. A number of studies have indicated that using PT facilitate students’ fluency and confidence (Washburn & Christianson: 1996, Kubo: 2009, Kluge & Taylor: 2000, and Nguyen: 2012). This current study attempted at answering the questions related to: 1) the potential benefit of PT upon the students’ speaking fluency, 2) the students’ perspectives on their English speaking performance, and 3) the students’ attitudes toward PT. The findings revealed that pair taping could be conducive to promote students’ speaking fluency along with developing their knowledge of language. It also advances our understanding of how pair taping makes contribution to foreign language learning and provide useful insight to teachers, lecturers or course designers in designing speaking course. The implementation of this study was found to be helpful in building up students’ speaking skills by offering innovative learning experience to students.

Abstract

Abstract: Along with the development of technology in various aspects of life, it makes technology have a big impact and influence in today's life. In educational sector, one of the roles of technology in learning activities is to support the learning activities become easier to accomplished and interesting. One of the developments of technology in education sector is e-learning. E-learning may be an option to be used on class as a learning tool. Especially, on English subject when some students may find it difficult then e-learning could be their alternative to learn English the significance of this study for find out the students’ perspective regarding e-learning in English subject. The data was conducted by distributing questionnaire to students. The study conducted in Bunga Bangsa Islamic Junior High School involving 56 students. Questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect the data which score analyzed based on the mean score. The result showed that students have positive attitudes toward e-learning. In terms of students’ attitudes, it is found that students have positive attitudes toward e-learning since they found e-learning is appropriate to use, effective, and excellent technique to help them learning English.  Keywords: attitudes, belief, e-learning.

Abstract

Propaganda can be identified using basic kinds of propaganda and seven techniques to present propaganda. White, Black, Agitation, Integration, Disinformation, Bureaucratic, Counterpropaganda, Hate, and Deed is the most useful categorization of propaganda according to Cunningham which is includes in nine basic categories of propaganda. The focus of this study is to analyze context and techniques of propaganda used in Online News Portal of East Kalimantan. The analysis of the content and techniques of propaganda obtained from the news articles in Online News Portal is therefore to explore how a certain message is described. The result show that present message in the propaganda, propagandist in in Online News Portal used seven techniques: (1) name calling, (2) glittering generalities, (3) transfer, (4) testimonial, (5) plain folks, (6) bandwagon, and (7) card stacking.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the type and function of the Imperative sentence that appeared in “Uang Panai” Movie. The researcher applied content analysis design. The subject of this study is the characters in “Uang Panai” Movie. And the object of study was imperative sentences used by the characters in the movie. The instrument used in this study was the checklist. The researcher found 98 positive imperative sentences and 30 Negative imperative sentences. The particles used in a positive imperative sentence in Bugise Language found in Uang Panai Movie mostly the character used particle to stress the command and also the researcher found that in Bugise imperative there are using Ko and Ki to represent you but Ki is more polite than using ko. The researcher also found 83 imperative sentences as command with the most particle used is to give emphasis to the listener to do something, 14 imperative sentence as a request with the most marker used is marker ki to represent politeness and word “tolong” and 30 imperative sentence as a prohibition used word “jangan” with mostly marker used is ko to give more stress to the listener for not to do something.

Abstract

In the era of rapid technological advancements, education has undergone significant transformation, necessitating changes in teaching methods and skills. The International Community Service Webinar “Enhancing Technological Literacy in Education: Adapting to Rapid Technological Advancements” was organized by the Research and Community Service Institution of Universitas Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda in collaboration with the English Education Department of Universitas Siliwangi. This event, held as a webinar via Zoom Meeting, addressed challenges in integrating digital tools into education. It was supported by Indonesian Education Share-to-Care Volunteers (IES2CV) and featured speakers from V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University (Russia), Bangkokthonburi University (Thailand), Grand-Plus College of Education (Nigeria), Emilio Aguinaldo College (Philippines), and the University of Malakand (Pakistan). The program provided targeted training to equip educators and students with essential skills in utilizing digital platforms, promoting collaborative research, and comprehending digital ethics and data privacy. The primary objectives included enhancing technological proficiency, increasing access to educational resources, and fostering a culture of innovation in learning environments. A total of 756 participants enrolled in the program, comprising 364 from Indonesia and 392 from various countries, including Pakistan, China, Nigeria, India, Eswatini, Thailand, the Philippines, and Iraq. The diverse participation underscores the global importance of technological literacy in education. By bridging the gap between technological advancements and educational practices, this initiative fostered the development of a more proficient and adaptable cohort of learners, ultimately enhancing the quality of education and research in the digital era

Abstract

Although extensive research has been conducted on the positive impact of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) on student learning, there have been few studies examining university students' attitudes toward the use of MALL for English learning. The study investigates the attitudes of university students toward MALL, focusing on the use of mobile applications to learn English. This study's participants are the English department at a private university in East Kalimantan. This study employs a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview for data collection. The findings from this analysis demonstrated that students had a favorable perception of the usefulness of MALL in various aspects of language learning. They perceived English mobile applications as beneficial for improving their language skills, enhancing work quality, and promoting motivation. These positive perceptions indicated that MALL had the potential to be an effective tool in supporting language learning among students

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of a blended pedagogical approach in improving students' writing skills. This approach combines a controlled-to-free writing method with engaging Do-It-Yourself (DIY) "Daily Activities" designed to enhance motivation and personalize the learning experience. Specifically, this study aims to determine if this integrated approach leads to significant improvements in students' writing proficiency, fluency, accuracy, and complexity compared to traditional writing instruction. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach to address the practical challenges of improving students' writing skills through the controlled to free approach combined with DIY “Daily Activities.” The research showed that Post-test results showed a 25% improvement in students' writing scores compared to the pre-test. Specifically, grammar accuracy improved by 20%, coherence by 30%, and vocabulary usage by 25%. So, we can conclude that DIY "Daily Activities," is effective in improving students' writing skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the learning difficulties Mathematics experienced by students. This type of research is qualitative research with a subject of 16 students who have difficulty learning Mathematics. The results of this study showed that: 1) internal factors of mathematics learning difficulties experienced by students in VD grades are the interest factors of students' learning, motivational factors and attitudes of students, and student learning habits. An internal factor that does not affect VD students in math learning difficulties is sensing ability. 2) External factors of mathematics learning difficulties experienced by students in VD class are teaching methods of teachers, and learning facilities. External factors that do not affect students in VD class who have difficulty learning Mathematics is the teacher's relationship with the student.
