Abstract

The global shift toward communication-driven education has positioned Communicative Language Instruction (CLI) as a vital approach in teaching English, particularly in Indonesian secondary and vocational schools. Despite its increasing application, a systematic understanding of CLI's scholarly development remains limited. This study aims to fill that gap through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of CLI research published between 2014 and 2024. Using structured searches across Google Scholar, Scopus, and Dimensions, an initial dataset of 223 articles was collected. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria focusing on peer-reviewed studies in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, a total of 97 articles were selected for analysis. Bibliometric tools including VOSviewer and Publish or Perish (PoP) were employed to examine metadata such as publication trends, authorship patterns, keyword frequencies, and country distributions. The results show a substantial rise in CLI-related publications, from 7 in 2014 to a peak of 29 in both 2021 and 2022. Indonesia produced the highest number of studies (n = 11), followed by Iran (n = 10). Keyword co-occurrence revealed dominant themes such as "language teaching," "practice," and "interaction," with a strong emphasis on English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly in tourism and hospitality. Citation mapping identified three major research clusters and emerging authors contributing to this field. These findings highlight the growing relevance of CLI in vocational education and underscore the importance of integrating ESP content, intercultural competence, and technology-enhanced learning to prepare students for participation in an increasingly globalized workforce.

Abstract

Background: Throughout order to analyze texts and discourses, Critical Discourse Analysis makes use of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) as a tool. Through use of Systemic Functional Linguistics is particularly interesting to Critical Discourse Analysis, even though the other linguistic models are also useful in the field. This is due to the model's emphasis on language use, as well as its informative and social functions. Methodology: The qualitative approach was utilized by the researcher since it is suitable with research by analyzing visual text or text that is visible and legible or it can be used to investigate the structure of words or visual text as language. Findings: The findings from the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on the transitivity of Twitter texts related to Indonesia President Joko Widodo reveal interesting patterns. Focusing on the first fifteen Twitter posts in December, the analysis of the initial post highlighted four instances of Material Processes with the goal of improving farmers' productivity in Trenggalek. The subsequent posts showcased diverse transitivity patterns, covering themes such as economic development, government openness to criticism, responses to global events like the Omicron variant, and a commitment to environmental sustainability. Common elements across the posts included economic initiatives outside Java, infrastructure development, and social welfare efforts. Overall, these Twitter posts depicted President Joko Widodo's engagement with various issues, employing a mix of informative, persuasive, and directive communication styles. The analysis provides valuable insights into the President's priorities and governance approach during this period, offering a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted nature of his communication. Abstract

Critical reading is a core academic competence for International Relations students who regularly engage with global news texts. Such texts frequently embed ideological framing, selective evidence, and political agendas that require analytical interpretation. This study examines students’ self-perceived critical reading competence after instruction using the Global News Analysis Model (GNAM). It also explores students’ perceptions of GNAM’s effectiveness and identifies instructional components perceived as most influential. A quantitative descriptive survey was conducted with 72 International Relations students who completed GNAM-based learning activities. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. Reliability analysis showed strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.88). Results indicate moderate to high perceived critical reading competence, with the strongest confidence in identifying main claims (M = 4.12, SD = 0.54) and the weakest in detecting media bias and framing (M = 3.31, SD = 0.73). GNAM was perceived as effective overall (M = 4.07, SD = 0.45), particularly in comparative media analysis (M = 4.26, SD = 0.49). The findings suggest that GNAM supports students’ analytical awareness of global news, although deeper ideological evaluation remains challenging.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of collaborative learning within mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) environments to enhance critical reading skills among English Department students in East Kalimantan. The research aims to identify learners’ and lecturers’ needs, wants, and challenges related to critical reading instruction through mobile-based collaboration. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 55 students and 5 lecturers using a 50-item Likert-scale questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative responses were coded thematically using ATLAS.ti. The findings reveal that both students and lecturers highly value the incorporation of technology and collaborative activities in fostering critical reading abilities. Over 90% of respondents agreed that MALL enhances engagement, autonomy, and comprehension when combined with peer interaction and authentic materials. However, challenges such as diverse proficiency levels, limited digital resources, and insufficient professional training for lecturers were also identified. The study concludes that designing collaborative MALL frameworks—integrating discussion forums, peer feedback, and adaptive learning tools—can significantly support the development of students’ critical literacy. The results provide a foundation for developing context-specific MALL applications and contribute to the advancement of critical reading pedagogy in higher education

Abstract

The integrity of the global academic record is under unprecedented threat due to the industrialization of scientific misconduct, driven by paper mills, citation cartels, and identity theft, prompting major bibliographic databases to replace manual curation with algorithmic systems. This study examines the operational mechanics of the Scopus Radar tool, an unsupervised anomaly detection system designed to identify and eliminate articles exhibiting anomalous behavior. We reconstruct the bibliometric indicators that lead to discontinuation by triangulating data from the November 2025 Scopus Discontinued Titles list, public Elsevier policy papers, and independent bibliometric research. Our study of 62 cancelled journals shows that Publication Concerns (59.7%) and Outlier conduct (14.5%) are the top grounds for removal. There are definite tendencies when it comes to hyper-concentrated authorship, quick volume velocity spikes, and citation stacking that does not make sense. We also see a "contagion effect," where certain publications have far greater rates of quitting than others. Based on these findings, we propose the Scopus Radar Readiness Model (SRRM). The model is based on the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and has four stages of growth. This roadmap gives editorial boards the tools they need to go from reactive compliance to proactive integrity assurance. They can do this by using internal bibliometric audits to find and fix problems before they lead to external algorithmic enforcement. The results show that journals need to use Level 4 Optimized integrity practices to stay alive in a time when automated gatekeeping is common.
