Abstract

Textile industry is one of the most dominant developed industries in Indonesia. Waste textile industries were dominated by dyes pollution from the production process. One way to pigment used in textile industry is pigment Rhodamin B. Methodt reduce dyes waste pollution is through adsorption. The adsorbent that used was activated carbon from waste palm empty fruit buncheswhich are activation physics in temperature 300oC and chemical activation is done by using H3PO4 activator. This research aims to study the activated carbon capabilities in adsorption Rhodamin B in the variation of the mass of adsorbent 1, 3 and 5 grams, sieve size 0,595-250 mm, 0,250-125 mm and 0,105 mm and a contact time of 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes.The results showed that the optimum occurs at mass 5 grams, sieve size 0,105 mm and a contact time of 45 minutes with an efficiency of 99,50%. While the lowest efficiency is 27% to mass 5 grams, particle size 0,595-0,250 mm and a contact time 15 minutes.Keywords: Adsorption, Activated carbon palm empty fruit bunches, Adsorbent mass, Sieve size , Contact time, Rhodamin B

Abstract

Rotating Alga Biofilm Reactor (RABR) is a biological wastewater treatment using microorganisms with suspension and biofilm culture processes. The microorganism used in this study was the microalgae Chlorella sp. that require nutrients such as carbon, nitrogen and light for growth. This nutrient source is obtained from domestic wastewater which has a high organic matter content. In this study, variations of disc surface roughness (type 1, type 2 and type 3) were performed on the Rotary Alga Biofilm Reactor process and contact time (0, 1, 3, 5 days) to remove NH3, parameters. Reactor with variations of disk surface roughness type 3 was able to remove NH3 concentration of 3.26 mg/l and removal efficiency of 83.84% on the 5th day with a total number of microalgae cells based on suspension and biofilm of 8.65 x 106 cells/ml. Abstract

More energy needs are met from fossil energy, but that fuel can’t be renewed. Various studies have been conducted to utilize microalgae as raw material for biofuels. The carbohydrate content in microalgae can be used as raw material for bioethanol. Scenedesmus sp. considered a promising microalgae for biofuel production because it has a high level of growth and glucose production, and can utilize organic matter as a nutrient in the form of tofu liquid waste so that the synergy between wastewater treatment and biomass production can run well. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal conditions for growth of Scenedesmus sp. with the influence of photoperiod and volume of tofu wastewater on glucose levels formed after the cultivation process. In this study variations in the provision of tofu wastewater in the cultivation medium (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) with the ratio of photoperiod light:dark (16:8, 14:10, 12:12, and 24:0) and the time of data collection on days are 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13. Based on the results of the study obtained the highest glucose level of 36,41 mg/l at the added of 20% tofu liquid waste and photoperiod 12:12. Abstract

Biochar is a soil amendment agent that has long been known in agriculture which is useful for increasing soil productivity. The raw materials for making biochar come from agricultural, plantation, livestock and forestry residues. Rice husks contain 75-90% organic matter (cellulose and lignin), silica minerals and other micro elements so they are good for use as soil amendments. Biochar is made by pyrolysis at 500 0C for 1 hour and flows 0.1 L / minute of N2 gas. Biochar from rice husks in this study has met the minimum fixed carbon requirements based on SNI 06-3730-1995, namely 68.4%. Key words : Biochar, rice husk, fixed carbon

Abstract

Research efficiency decreased levels of chloride ion in sea water by ion exchange method which utilitizes clay to do. The results of the initial analysis on the sea of chloride parameter indicates the concentration parameter exceeds the quality standards PERMENKES 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990. The research uses an ion exchange column with a diameter of 2 inches and a height of 1,2 meters. Media used is sea water of Bengkalis and clay activated with KOH 2 M. Variation used is the flow rate and time of observation. The flow rate used are 140 ml/mnt, 160 ml/mnt, 180 ml/mnt and 200 ml/mnt and time of observation used are 1; 1,5; 2 hours. Concentration of chloride before research is 15.423 mg/L and after processing occurs at decreasing concentrations in each variation of chloride are 278 mg/L - 667 mg/L. This result shows that the ion exchange methode using activated clays are capable of removing of chloride concentration in sea water. Over all, the variation used in this research give effect to decreased of chloride in sea water. This is also evidenced in the removal efficiency of ion is 98,2 % - 95,7 %.Keyword : Flow rate and time of observation, Ion Exchange, Sea water, The activated clays.

Abstract

Domestic liquid waste has organic matter and high pollutant load. Microalgae Chlorella sp. is able to utilize organic material as a source of nutrition for its growth, hence it may reduce pollutant of domestic liquid waste. Microalgae Chlorella sp. which grows on the surface of the disk is suspended in domestic liquid waste using a Rotary Alga Biofilm Reactor (RABR) is able to absorb high level nutrient, so that they have high cell growth. In this research, it is conducted by using speed rational variations in RABR process (2, 4, dan 6 rpm) and contact time (0, 1, 3, 5, 7 days) to remove COD parameters. Based on the results toward the removal of pollutant parameters by using 4 rpm rotational speed variation is higher than using 2 and 6 rpm. Abstract

Energy use still depends on petroleum energy which is non-renewable energy. As a solution, it is necessary to diversify energy other than petroleum. One of energy diversification is by utilizing microalgae as bioenergy raw material. Scenedesmus sp. is one of the microalgae which has the potential as a bioenergy feedstock. This study aims to determine optimal conditions of growth microalgae Scenedesmus sp. with the effect of the volume of tofu wastewater and different light intensities on glucose. In this research, the observation with a ratio the volume of bold basal medium and tofu liquid waste 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% and light intensity of 1000 lux, 2000 lux, 3000 lux and 4000 lux. Based on the research results obtained optimal conditions on the volume of tofu liquid waste 20% and light intensity 4000 lux with glucose 41.9 mg/L.Keywords : Scenedesmus sp., glucose, tofu liquid waste, light intensity.

Abstract

The growth of economic and population, especially in tampan district Pekanbaru is followed by the increase of transportation infrastructures and increasing amount of vehicle result in the increasing amount of vehicle. This increasing amount of vehicles result in the increasing amount of carbondioxide (CO2) emission produced. CO2 will enlarge the Greenhouse Effect which can cause global warming. Because of that, a measurement is needed to find out the amount of CO2 emission produced transportations activities. In this research, the measurement is done by total vehicle appoarch and emission factor. This research was conducted Soebrantas Street, Lobak, Bangau Sakti, Kamboja, Purwodadi and Suka Karya. The total amount of vehicles is measured with video recorder on at research locations for 16 hours. The recording was conducted on effective days. From the measurment, CO2 emission from transportations activities for converted vehicles in Tampan district is 169.786,914 kg CO2 on effective days.Keywords : carbondioxide emission, carbon footprint, global warming, emission factor, transportation

Abstract

The stabilization pond system are used in almost all of palm oil mills in Indonesia. One of it disadvantages is that it disable to exploit the potential of microalgae. HRAR is a technology that is able to increase microalgae biomass, and with a consortium of microalgae-bacteria, the elimination of organic matter is increasing. This research aim by determined the effect of mixing velocity in the HRAR system towards the spesific growth rate of microalgae and mixed liquor suspended solid in POME. The research was carried out in batches for 7 days by using solar energy as a source of light. Mixing were operated 24 hours per day with by variations of mixing velocity was 16, 20, and 24 cm/sec. Based on the research results, the mixing velocity of 20 cm/sec was the best velocity for indigenous microalgae. The highest spesific growth rate of microalgae was 0,402/day and mixed liquor suspended solid values was 3625 mg/L .Keywords: High Rate Algae Reactor (HRAR), Mixing, Microalgae, Palm Oil Mill Effluents (POME).

Abstract

Chlorella sp. can be used as a solution to tofu liquid waste problems. Therefore, it is important to develop this microalgae cultivation technique. One of them is by using the Azospirillum sp. which can support growth and can increase the efficiency of removal from tofu liquid waste. In this research, the measurement of the growth rate of the microalgae Chlorella sp. and COD removal. The research conducted in batches with the addition of bacteria at 5 different levels, namely 0 (without the addition of Azospirillum sp.), the addition of Azospirillum sp. as many as 0.25; 0.50; 0.75; and 1 (% v / v). Processing is carried out for 13 days by irradiating sunlight in a photobioreactor. Based on the research results, the highest growth rate of Chlorella sp. and the best COD removal efficiency of 0.17/ day and 86.84% were obtained from the addition of Azospirillum sp. 1% v/v on the thirteenth day.
