Abstract

Sosialisasi peran gender di masyarakat Indonesia yang menganggap bahwa lelaki harus menjadi pemimpin dalam hubungan personal kerap mengakibatkan tidak seimbangnya relasi komunikasi dalam proses pengambilan keputusan pada konteks hubungan personal. Bahkan, jika perempuan menempati jabatan pemimpin di ranah publik, masih terdapat narasi yang mendukung perempuan tersebut untuk tetap menjadi yang nomor dua dari pasangannya. Maka, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan relasi komunikasi yang terjadi pada proses pengambilan keputusan dalam hubungan personal perempuan dengan jabatan pemimpin. Penelitian ini menjadikan pemimpin perempuan yang tengah menjalin hubungan personal dalam tahap berkencan (dating) sebagai fokus penelitian. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Terdapat dua teori yang digunakan sebagai panduan yaitu Dyadic Power Theory serta Knapp Stage Model of Relationship. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa relasi komunikasi dalam proses pengambilan keputusan dapat berubah-ubah, Dominasi laki-laki dapat terlihat pada awal hubungan, untuk kemudian terjadi proses tarik-menarik yang menunjukkan upaya penolakan dari perempuan dalam penelitian ini terhadap dominasi pasangannya. Proses tarik menarik tidak terbatas pada proses adu argumentasi, namun juga strategi komunikasi afeksi yang dilakukan pemimpin perempuan sebagai strategi untuk tetap menjaga perasaan pasangannya, ketika hubungan personal mengarah ke pernikahan, terjadi proses dimana pemimpin-pemimpin perempuan ini menyerap narasi yang beredar di masyarakat bahwa secara esensial, jika sudah mengarah ke pernikahan, perempuan harus lebih mengikuti suaminya. Sehingga pada akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa, terlepas dari telah terjadi perubahan di masyarakat, dimana perempuan dapat menduduki jabatan kepemimpinan di ranah publik, tetapi, di ranah privat pada konteks hubungan personal, bahkan pemimpin perempuan sekalipun masih harus berusaha untuk mendapatkan suara yang seimbang dalam proses pengambilan keputusan dengan pasangannya.

Abstract

Masa remaja adalah masa dimana terjadi pertumbuhan fisik, psikologis, dan intelektual secara pesat. Perubahan fisik akan membawa perubahan aspek psikologis yang menyebabkan remaja memiliki tingkat keingintahuan tinggi mengenai suatu hal baru seperti menjalin hubungan yang lebih intim dengan lawan jenis. Hal inilah yang menyebabkan remaja cenderung melakukan seks bebas. Perilaku seks yang dilakukan sebelum terjadinya ikatan pernikahan disebut dengan istilah seks pranikah. Seks pranikah saat ini merupakan permasalahan sekaligus fenomena sosial. Seks pranikah juga dapat dikatakan bukan suatu penyimpangan dan hal yang tabu lagi di kalangan remaja, namun telah menjadi hal yang wajar karena telah menjadi kebiasaan bahkan trend. Hal ini ditandai dengan semakin meningkatnya kasus seks pranikah pada kelompok remaja dari tahun ke tahun. Karena dampak seks pranikah yang sangat besar inilah yang menjadikan orang tua seharusnya bertanggung jawab untuk memberikan pengawasan yang cukup agar terhindar dari perilaku menyimpang seperti seks pranikah. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori komunikasi interpersonal, teori communication privacy management, dan teori family communication. Penelitian ini digunakan untuk mengetahui pengalaman komunikasi antara orangtua dan anak pada kasus seks pranikah di Kota Semarang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Pengalaman komunikasi antara orang tua dan anak pada umumnya intens namun komunikasi yang terjadi diantara keduanya tidak terbuka, khususnya mengenai kehidupan pribadi anak. Hal ini dikarenakan terdapat batasan privasi antara orang tua dan anak seperti orang tua tidak boleh mengecek handphone anak, anak tidak terbuka mengenai gaya pacaran, anak tidak terbuka dengan aktifitas detailnya bersama teman – temannya.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic phenomenon not only concerns the issues of a health crisis, but it has also resulted in a cascade of information, including facts and hoaxes, that is difficult to distinguish from one another and is easily shared through digital networks, one of which is social media. This situation, which is also known as information disorder, causes issues with the reception, processing, and interpretation of information that may vary from person to person. This study intends to acquire a thorough understanding of the subjective communication experiences of people in the adult age group when coping with the deluge of information concerning Covid-19 on social media. This research is qualitative research that uses an interpretive paradigm with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. The Elaboration Likelihood Model served as the study’s theoretical foundation. This research uses the concept of an echo chamber, filter bubble, and confirmation bias to show the characteristics of information about Covid-19 on social media due to the algorithm operating system. In-depth interviews with both male and female participants who met the age requirement of over 35 years old were employed as the method of data collection in this study, along with the usage of social media to address participants' information demands regarding Covid-19. The findings of this research indicate that individual interpretation and the type of response that is conveyed through behaviours and/or decision-making are impacted by subjective experience in handling various forms of information disorder concerning Covid-19 on social media. Some of the findings that reflect the communication relationship among participants in interpreting the disorder of information about Covid-19 on social media include (i) individuals in the adult age group consider WhatsApp as the main contributor to the conflicting information regarding Covid-19 on social media. (ii) People in the adult age group find it difficult to sort through the deluge of information regarding Covid-19 because they are unaware of the social media algorithm system. (iii) Possession of prior knowledge, be it false or true, related to Covid-19 makes information processing carried out by individuals in the adult age group biased. (iv) The lack of personal motivation to seek the correct information affects how much individuals in the adult age group can believe a certain piece of information during the disorder of information regarding Covid-19. (v) The disorder of information regarding Covid-19 has made individuals in the adult age group experience pandemic fatigue.

Abstract

Media reporting on female athletes still has some problems. Starting from stereotypes, sexism, objectification, commodification, and their voices that aren't represented proportionally. In Indonesia, the masculine culture embedded in sports and media often ignores the abilities and achievements of female athletes. This study used the critical constructivism paradigm to find out how female athletes are represented through the framing in the online media Okezone.com and Kompas.com during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This study used Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M Kosicki's framing analysis. This model divides framing into four elements; syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. Ten news, each from online media Okezone.com and Kompas.com from 22 July - 23 August 2021 used as data for this study. Findings from this study indicate that news titles published by Okezone.com are the result of commodification based on the objectification of female athletes' physical appearances. This can be seen through the syntactic structure used in headlines and leads. The dominant script structure prioritizes "who" and "what" and didn't fulfill the news comprehensiveness as it should. The thematic structure can be seen by the choice of words and how the sentences used in the news tend to objectify women by reducing their appearance. The dominant rhetoric emphasizes diction that focused on physical appearance. Meanwhile, Kompas.com news headline shows gender sensitivity in reporting female athletes. This can be seen by how Kompas.com's syntax emphasizes female athletes' struggles and their career journeys. The syntactic structure of news presented by Kompas.com fulfills the 5W+1H element of news and emphasizes the "how" element. The thematic structure highlights female athletes' achievement as the main theme. The rhetorical structure of the selected photos or images shows the professionalism of female athletes. Findings from this study also show that the representation of female athletes through the media framing of Okezone.com is that female athlete are described as attractive-looking figures seen from their style of dress, glamor life, and their appearance on the field. Meanwhile, there are five representations of female athletes by Kompas.com; (1) Tough, (2) Achievers, (3) Having a high fighting spirit, (4) Responsible, (5) Able to penetrate gender boundaries in sports and (6) Sportive.

Abstract

Fenonema hubungan romantis jarak jauh menjadi salah satu tantangan bagi setiap pasangan romatis. Jarak yang memisahkan para pasangan ini bisa dikarenakan oleh beberapa faktor seperti tuntutan pekerjaan, pendidikan, maupun sebab lainnya seperti yang terjadi saat ini yaitu adanya pandemi global. Memelihara komunikasi menjadi satu hal yang harus dipertahankan, karena pasangan hubungan jarak jauh tentu akan sulit untuk bertemu langsung. Bahasa cinta atau The Five Love Languages oleh Gary Chapman dipilih untuk diterapkan dalam berkomunikasi pada hubungan jarak jauh dengan maksud untuk lebih mendalami bagaimana keadaan serta keinginan tiap pasangan sehingga bisa mengurangi perselisihan akibat keterbatasan yang akan mempengaruhi komunikasi mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana para pasangan memelihara hubungan romantis jarak jauh mereka dengan menerapkan konsep-konsep bahasa cinta. Penelitian ini disusun menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, paradigma interpretif serta pendekatan fenomenologi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yakni wawancara mendalam. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Teori Pemeliharaan Hubungan dan Teori Komunikasi Verbal dan Nonverbal.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan hal yang penting bagi anak, namun, Kota Semarang, khususnya SMAN 5 Semarang belum mendapatkan prestasi belajar memuaskan yang didasarkan pada penurunan nilai UN dan peringkat sekolah berdasarkan nilai UTBK. Kehadiran media sosial menjadi salah satu faktor yang berhubungan dengan prestasi belajar siswa. Kehadiran media sosial dapat membuat para penggunanya kecanduan. Hal tersebut kurang diperhatikan oleh orang tua, dimana intensitas komunikasi orang tua dengan anak tergolong rendah dan masih banyak anak yang menggunakan smartphone tanpa adanya aturan dari orang tua. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengkaji hubungan antara intensitas penggunaan media sosial TikTok dengan prestasi belajar siswa SMA di Kota Semarang dan intensitas komunikasi orang tua – anak dengan prestasi belajar siswa SMA di Kota Semarang. Teori yang digunakan adalah Displacement Effects Theory dan Parental Mediation Theory. Pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah non-probability sampling, yakni siswa-siswi SMAN 5 Semarang, berusia 15 – 18 tahun, dan aktif menggunakan media sosial TikTok. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 50 responden. Hasil uji korelasi kendall’s tau_b antara intensitas penggunaan media sosial TikTok dengan prestasi belajar siswa SMA di Kota Semarang diperoleh nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,736 yang dapat diartikan bahwa kedua variabel tidak memiliki hubungan yang signifikan. Hal ini dikarenakan para responden dapat berperan aktif untuk memilih waktu yang diinginkan dalam penggunaan media sosial, sehingga penggunaan TikTok oleh responden tidak menggantikan waktu belajar. Kemudian, hasil uji korelasi kendall’s antara intensitas komunikasi orang tua – anak dengan prestasi belajar siswa SMA di Kota Semarang diperoleh nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,879 yang dapat diartikan bahwa kedua variabel tidak memiliki hubungan yang signifikan. Hal ini dikarenakan responden yang merupakan usia remaja sudah memiliki kemampuan untuk mengontrol, mendisiplinkan diri, serta mampu membatasi diri dalam menggunakan kebebasan yang diberikan kepada mereka.

Abstract

The majority of modern communication is almost completely relying on digital technology, which if not handled carefully can promote destructive behavior. Cyberbullying is one such destructive behavior. Cyberbullying is more prevalent on Instagram, which is thought to be caused by the availability of mobile devices and inexpensive internet connections. As a result, an increasing number of users are accessing Instagram without having a thorough understanding of cyberbullying. This study aims to investigate the relationship between knowledge levels of cyberbullying and Instagram usage intensity to cyberbullying levels on Instagram through communication theory verification of Knowledge-AttitudeBehavior (KAB) Model, Problem Behavior Theory, and Social-Cognitive Theory. This explanatory research uses non-probability sampling and purposive sampling techniques to analyze quantitative data. 100 young adults in Pati Regency, aged 18 to 34, who actively use Instagram and have seen cyberbullying-related content on the platform were utilized as a sample for this study. Kendall's Tau-b and Kendall's W correlation tests were used to assess hypotheses. The findings demonstrated that knowledge levels of cyberbullying had no relationship when tested partially to cyberbullying levels on Instagram. Similar results also occur for Instagram usage intensity when tested partially to cyberbullying levels on Instagram. However, knowledge levels of cyberbullying and Instagram usage intensity actually showed a relationship when tested simultaneously to cyberbullying levels on Instagram, but there are some considerations to keep in mind.

Abstract

Companies carry out various strategies to survive in the midst of business competition. Bean Spot carries out a sales promotion strategy to increase sales. Bean Spot also builds consumer trust through social media. However, with all the efforts that have been made, Bean Spot was unable to achieve the sales target. This study aims to explain the correlation between sales promotion exposure and the level of trust with purchase decision of Bean Spot products. Sales Promotion Stimulus Theory and Brand Equity Theory are used in this study to explain the correlation between variables. The sample of this research is 100 respondents aged 18 -35 years old in Palembang City who have seen Bean Spot sales promotions through print and social media, and have purchased Bean Spot products at least once. Through the Kendal Tau-B correlation analysis technique, the results of the first hypothesis test show that there is no correlation between sales promotion exposure and the decision to purchase Bean Spot products as evidenced by a significance value of 0.275. Then the second hypothesis test shows that there is a correlation between the level of trust and the decision to purchase Bean Spot products with a significance value of 0.000 and a coefficient value of 0.353.

Abstract

Early marriage is one form of marginalization in which women have to go through various forms of communication dominance in the process of making the decision to get married. This brings many problems in the decision-making process within the household. Therefore, the aim of this research is to understand how the communication process of decision-making occurs, both before deciding to get married and during the marriage itself. Three interviewees with different marriage backgrounds will be interviewed to observe how the communication process in decision-making unfolds. The research will be conducted using Labov's narrative analysis method.The results of this study indicate that women's early marriage decisions are caused by manipulation in the form of continuous pressure to get married and threats of ending the relationship, which can change their minds. Manipulative actions also result in women willingly altering the narrative about men in front of their parents to gain their approval. After marriage, it was found that women's involvement in household decision-making is limited due to manipulation by husbands through narratives of masculinity. Furthermore, women's early marriage decisions are influenced by feelings of guilt for violating societal norms, such as unwanted pregnancies. As a result, the improper position leads to double marginalization and a lack of involvement in household decision-making after marriage. Another factor contributing to women's early marriage decisions is fulfilling their parents' wishes by entering arranged marriages, where the interests of the parents appear more important. However, after marriage, women can fully participate in household decision-making, including financial decisions, parenting styles, and reproduction, as the positions of husband and wife are equal, and there is no fixed division of roles for either spouse.

Abstract

The livestock sector is proven to produce methane gas which contributes as much as sixteen percent of the total causes of climate change. One way to prevent further climate change is to follow a plant-based consumption pattern, but only less than one percent of Indonesia's population follows this consumption pattern. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Fear-arousal on climate change information and educational of '21 Hari Vegan' on the interest in living a vegetarian lifestyle in DKI Jakarta with explanatory research and survey methods. Most of the respondents who took part in this study considered the threat of climate change spread in the media to be quite worrying, the '21 Hari Vegan' education on the official website and Instagram account was quite educational, and had very high interest in living a vegetarian lifestyle. The findings on testing each of the independent variables on the interest in the vegetarian lifestyle stated effectiveness with a low value, this indicated that the two independent variables were weak instruments for encouraging interest in the vegetarian lifestyle.
