Abstract

The classic assumptions used to calculate fractional ages in valuing insurance premiums with payouts made immediately after death result in discontinuous probabilities of immediate death at integer ages because the assumption only applies to a 1-year time interval, specifically . The new assumption, namely the quadratic fractional age assumption, has successfully introduced continuity at integer ages. This study discusses the conditions for applying the quadratic fractional age assumption and its influence on the calculation of semi-continuous dual-purpose insurance premiums, where the policyholder's beneficiaries receive the sum assured if the insured individual passes away before the contract ends or receive protection if the policyholder survives until the end of the contract, with premium payments made on a monthly basis. Simulation results indicate that not all mortality tables meet the requirements for the quadratic fractional age assumption, where the value falls between . Only the Commissioners Standard Ordinary Table 1958 meets this criterion. Monthly premiums calculated using the quadratic fractional age assumption yield smaller values compared to premiums calculated using the constant force of mortality assumption and the uniform distribution of death assumption.

Abstract

Public complaints play a critical role in providing feedback on service delivery, enabling institutions to enhance performance, promote accountability, and uphold social justice. This study examines the influence of perceived justice in complaint handling on public satisfaction within the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). Adopting a quantitative approach, data were collected from 258 respondents—comprising civil servants, private-sector employees, professionals, NGO workers, and the general public—using a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. This research focuses on three dimensions of justice: distributive, procedural, and interactional. The findings indicate that interactional justice—encompassing respectful treatment, clear communication, and ethical behavior—has the strongest impact on public satisfaction. These results underscore the importance of interpersonal engagement during the complaint resolution process as a key factor in shaping public trust and improving institutional image. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive analysis of justice perceptions in the context of a legislative institution’s complaint management system—an area that has been relatively underexplored in prior research. Unlike existing studies that primarily focus on executive or frontline service agencies, this study provides new insights into how justice-based approaches in legislative complaint handling can enhance public service responsiveness, transparency, and credibility.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the framing of political news presented by the South Sulawesi Hari Ini news broadcast program on TVRI South Sulawesi. The focus of the study is directed at three main problem formulations: (1) identifying framing elements contained in political news, (2) revealing framing techniques used in framing political issues, and (3) evaluating the extent to which the construction of political news fulfils the function of the media as a means of informative and educational information, a means of political socialization, and a tool for public oversight. The analysis method used is the Pan and Kosicki framing model, which examines the syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures in news texts. The research findings show that TVRI South Sulawesi compiles political news with a neutral, formal, and public service-oriented approach. The discourse structure is arranged to clarify the political process procedurally, without presenting biased opinions or excessive emotional effects. The framing techniques used tend to be informative and educational, supporting the role of public media as a balancer of information in the midst of a competitive and often sensational media landscape. Thus, the framing applied in political news on TVRI South Sulawesi can be said to be in line with the principles of public journalism: objective, balanced, and prioritizing the interests of the community.

Abstract

This research was conducted to design and develop pineapple pests and diseases diagnosis expert system with Iterative Deepening Search (IDS). This expert system runs on android platform. The certainty factor of this expert system is initialized by an expert and the final certainty factor is computed by the system. The data used in this expert system consist of 5 types of pineapple pests, 6 types of pineapple diseases. 31 types of symptoms and 11 types of rules are used to diagnose pineapple pests and diseases. To validate this expert system, two types of tests were conducted, which are expert system verification and system evaluation by users. Expert system verification was conducted by comparing 10 results from the diagnosis system and the results of the diagnosis by an expert. The compare result shows that the expert system result 100% is similar to the result of the expert. To evaluate the system, 30 respondents were asked to evaluate using questionnaires, which were grouped into three groups, i.e. group I (pineapple experts), group II (pineapple farmers and agriculture students) and group III (computer science students). All three stated this expert system runs well (75.56%, 72.44%, and 79.83% respectively).
