Abstract

Purple sweet potato (ipomoea batatas L.) is one source of carbohydrate. Purple sweet potato contains vitamins and minerals that needed by humans such as vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron. The sweet potato with purple flesh is widely used as natural dyes which are called anthocyanins. The study aim was to determine a suitable solvent to extract the purple sweet potato. Variation of solvent used namely methanol, methanol acidified with HCl 1% and solvent fractionation (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol). The extraction phase was divided into two, for flesh and for the skin of the purple sweet potato. The extraction results were then compared with phenolphthalein indicator and a methyl orange on acid-base titration. The results showed that the methanol acidified with HCl 1% provided a more stable color changes in acid-base testing, and the testing of phosphate buffer pH 1-12. Purple sweet potato extracts can be used as an acid-base indicator because it gave similar results with comparative indicators, phenolphthalein, and methyl orange.

Abstract

Antioxidant activity test of bay leave (Syzygium polyanthum) extract using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl (DPPH) has been investigated. The aim of this research is to determine antioxidant strength of bay leave (Syzygium polyanthum) extract. The bay leaves used in this research were young, medium, and old leaves categories. Concentration of DPPH free radical after additional bay leave extracts were determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Variation concentrations of bay leave extracts were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. Vitamin C solution was used as the positive control at the similar concentration, while DPPH solution in ethanol absolute was the negative control. The results showed that IC50 values for young, middle, and old leaves extracts were 37.441 ppm, 14.889 ppm, and 11.001 ppm, whereas vitamin C was 9.898 ppm. Based on these IC50 values, vitamin C is the strongest antioxidant than young, middle, and old bay leave extracts, and these extracts are classified as very strong natural antioxidant.

Abstract

Rice straw is an agricultural waste into organic waste further. Rice straw can be utilized as an alternative energy that is bioethanol. The objective of this research was to determine the optimal concentration of ethanol by the duration of fermentation. This research applied fermentation to rice straw using yeast bread in various times of 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 22 days. The steps of this research were sample preparation, delignification, hydrolysis, and fermentation. Bioethanol from fermented rice straw was analysed using alcoholmeter. The products of fermented ethanol increased and reached the optimum at day 13, which was 4.83+0.05%, then decrease the ethanol content at day 16, 19, and 22.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the levels of potassium (K) and calcium (Ca) in the rind and flesh of the kopek purple eggplant (solanum melongena) fruit. Determination of mineral level was done by destruction of the sample using stong acids, which were nitric acid (HNO3) and perchloric acid (HClO4). The method used in this study was a laboratory experiment using a flame photometry. The results showed that the levels of potassium in the flesh of kopek purple eggplant farmers I and II were 215 ± 7,07 mg/100 g and 195 ± 14,14 mg/100 g, respectively; while the rind of kopek purple eggplant farmers I and II were 142,5 ± 3.53 mg/100 g and 102.50 ± 3.53 mg/100 g, respectively. The levels of calcium in the flesh of kopek purple eggplant farmers I and II were 10 ± 7.07 mg/100g and 15 ± 3.53 mg/100 g, respectively; while the rind of the kopek purple eggplant farmers I and II were 6.25 ± 1.76 mg/100 g and 7.50 ± 3.53 mg/100 g, respectively.

Abstract

Palm fibers are solid waste from the palm oil processing plant. Palm fibers can be used as an alternative fuels for traditional and modern (bioethanol). This study aims to determine the amount of heat generated from the burning of palm fibers, and determine the number of conversions of bioethanol from palm fibers through the fermentation techniques. In this study used a bomb calorimeter is determine heat value and apply through fermentation using saccharomyces cereviseae in various times of 5 and 11 days to synthesis ethanol. The step in this study were sample preparation, delignification, hydrolysis with acid variation, and fermentation. Determination of bioethanol content from the fermentation was analysed using ethanol sensor. The heat value of palm fibers is equal to 4708.21 cal/g and the highest ethanol fermented product obtained on days 11, ie 5.23%. It can be concluded that palm fibers can be used potentially as an alternative renewable fuels to substitute coal or diesel power.

Abstract

Mango (Mangifera indica L) seeds never to used, so they need efforts to be as food ingredients such as flour. Gadung mango seed was one type of mango seeds used as flour. This study aims to determine the nutrient content i.e. carbohydrates, fats, and proteins of Gadung mango seed flour produced through sulfurization and without sulfurization. Sodiumbisulfite (NaHSO3) with a concentration of 730 ppm was used for mango seed soak for 4 hours at sulfurization stage. The results showed that the Gadung mango seed flour through sulfurization had levels of 13.89% carbohydrate, 12.94% fat and 8.48% protein, while the mango seed flour without sulfurization had levels of 20% carbohydrate, 14.83% fat, and 4.84% protein. The technique of sulfurization on making mango seed flour can reduce levels of carbohydrates and fats as well as maintaining the protein content.

Abstract

Research about coagulation of iron and calcium have been conducted using moringa (moringa oleifera Lamk) seed coagulant through the variation of the concentration of moringa seed and depositional time. Moringa seeds were used in this research that moringa seeds are old and dry. Compounds of moringa seeds that play role in the coagulation process of iron and calcium are proteins. This research was conducted to determine the optimum concentration of moringa seed and optimum deposition time on the process of coagulation using moringa seed coagulant in order to obtain the percentage decrease in the levels of iron and calcium. Variations in the concentration of moringa seeds were used in this research are 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm and the settling time is 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes. The results showed that the concentration of moringa seed and deposition time influenced in the process of coagulation of iron and calcium. In iron coagulation, obtained optimum concentration of 400 ppm moringa seeds and optimum settling time is 90 minutes. In these conditions the iron content decreased by 68.00 ppm or 66.95% from its initial level of 99.8 ppm. While the calcium coagulation, moringa seeds obtained optimum concentration of 500 ppm and optimum settling time of 120 minutes, which in this condition calcium levels decreased by 241 ppm or 49.00% of the initial concentration is 492 ppm.

Abstract

Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah apakah dengan penerapan metode diskusi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi struktur dan fungsi bagian-bagian tumbuhan di kelas IV SDN Sosom. Tujuan penelitian untuk meningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada materi struktur dan fungsi bagian-bagian tumbuhan di kelas IV SDN Sosom melalui penerapan metode diskusi. Rancangan penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus dan setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahap yaitu (1) perencanaan (2) Pelaksanaan (3) observasi (4) refleksi. Pengumpulan data melalui teknik pemberian tes, wawancara, observasi dan pencatatan lapangan. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi, penyajian dan penarikan kesimpulan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV SDN Sosom yang berjumlah 20 orang siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan data awal siswa yang kategori tuntas 4 orang atau presentase ketuntasan klasikal 20%. Pada siklus 1 jumlah siswa yang tuntas 10 atau orang presentase ketuntasan klasikal 50%. Sedangkan Siklus II jumlah siswa yang tuntas 19 orang,atau  presentase ketuntasan klasikal 95%. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode diskusi dalam proses pembelajaran, dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi struktur dan fungsi bagian-bagian tumbuhan dikelas IV SDN Sosom. Kata Kunci: Hasil Belajar, Metode Diskusi, Struktur dan Fungsi Bagian-Bagian   Tumbuhan

Abstract

Keaktifan siswa di kelas V SDN Inpres Komba-Komba  dalam belajar Alat Percernaan Manusia masih kurang optimal sehingga hasil belajar mereka rendah.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatan hasil belajar IPA materi Alat Pencernaan  Manusia melalui strategi pembelajaran Make a Match. Jenis penelitian ini adalah  penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini di laksanakan di SDN Inpres Komba-Komba di kelas V. Dengan jumlah siswa sejumlah 15 orang, yang terdiri dari 7 orang siswa laki-laki dan 8 orang siswa perempuan. PTK ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus kegiatan pembelajaran yang masing-masing terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi dan refleksi terhadap hasil tindakan. Hasil tindakan pada siklus I terdapat 5 orang siswa dari 15 jumlah siswa yang tidak tuntas belajar dan ketuntasan klasikal baru mencapai 66,66%. Berdasarkan indikator kinerja, penelitian tindakan pada siklus I belum mencapai ketuntasan belajar yang telah ditentukan sehingga perlu ditindak lanjuti ke siklus II. Pada siklus II terdapat peningkatan nilai ketuntasan klasikal siswa. Akhir siklus II presentase ketuntasan klasikal siswa telah mencapai 100%. Hasil penelitian tindakan kelas ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Stratergi Pembelajaran Make a Match dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas V SDN Inpres Komba-Komba Kecamatan Bulagi. Kata Kunci: Hasil Belajar, Pembelajaran Make a Match, Alat Pencernaan    Manusia.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in students’ learning outcomes in  grade X at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi through of number head together (NHT) strategies and  discussion on the topic of Redox Reaction. Type of this study was a quasi experiment with posttest-only control group design. This study was conducted in two groups namely Class X MIPA A as the experimental group (n = 35) and Class X MIPA B as the control group (n = 37). The students’ learning outcomes data were tested by using non-parametric statistical analysis Mann-Whitney U-test. The result showed that for the mean value of the experimental class was bigger than the control class that was 44.24 ˃ 29.18. The result of statistical analysis obtained Sig. 2-tailed (0.002) ˂ 0.05 and Zaccount (-3.069) ˂ Ztable (-1.96). The average score of the experimental class was 64.52 while the control class was 62. It can be concluded that there is a difference on students’ learning outcomes in grade X at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi through of NHT strategies and  discussion method on the topic of redox reaction.
