Abstract

Discourse of nationalism found in the French national anthem La Marseillaise was examined. The French Republic is recognized as a country in Western Europe and also characterized by several overseas islands and territories located across other continents. A critical discourse analysis framework developed by Norman Fairclough was applied in this study. Fairclough’s model was also selected due to its emphasis on linguistic analysis to assess sentence coherence. Additionally, coherence and cohesiveness were considered in terms of how words and sentences are combined to construct meaning and understanding through macro and micro structures. The central issue addressed in this research was how the theme of nationalism portrayed in the lyrics of La Marseillaise. In addition, it has a purpose to present the theme of nationalism as embedded in the lyrics of the anthem. To analyze it, qualitative content and descriptive analysis techniques had been employed. For data collection, content analysis procedures were utilized, including note-taking, translation, and consultation of relevant sources. The song La Marseillaise conveys themes of nationalism and patriotism through the interpretation of its lyrics. At the macro level, the lyrics clearly reflect patriotic sentiment by invoking a spirit of resistance and unity among the French people. Meanwhile, the micro-level analysis identified two prominent underlying motives: the motive of struggle and the motive of nationalism. However, based on the qualitative dominance of the microstructural elements, the nationalism motive emerges as the more salient of the two.

Abstract

Environmental pollution, especially heavy metal contamination, has become a major threat to aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of Jeruju (Acanthus illicifolius) as a bioindicator and phytoremediator of copper (Cu) pollution in mangrove waters of Surabaya. Sampling was conducted in three locations: Gunung Anyar Tambak, Surabaya Mangrove Botanical Garden, and Wonorejo Mangrove. Each location consisted of two sampling points: dock and estuary. Water and Jeruju leaf samples (upper, middle, and lower parts) were analyzed for Cu concentration using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Environmental parameters were also measured. The results showed that Cu concentration in water samples was very low and only detected at Gunung Anyar dock (0.001 ppm). However, Cu accumulation in Jeruju leaves varied, with the highest concentration (3.16 ppm) found in lower leaves at Gunung Anyar dock. The correlation between water quality parameters, particularly pH and TDS, and Cu concentration indicated that Jeruju can effectively accumulate Cu and serve as a potential phytoremediator and bioindicator in polluted Mangrove ecosystems.

Abstract

The digital revolution in education requires teachers to master innovative and engaging learning technologies. This Community Service Program aims to enhance the competency of teachers at MI Sa’adatuddarain II Tangerang in creating interactive learning videos using the Plotagon application. Plotagon was chosen due to its user-friendliness and its ability to produce engaging 3D animated videos without requiring advanced technical skills. The method employed was a one-day intensive training featuring a hands-on approach, including live demonstrations, guided practice sessions, and individual mentoring. The activity was involved 25 teachers from various subjects. Pre-test results revealed a low initial knowledge level with an average score of 45.6. Following the training, this improved dramatically to an average post-test score of 82.4. Furthermore, 92% of participants successfully created simple learning videos of adequate quality, and 96% stated their intention to implement this tool in their daily teaching. Satisfaction evaluation indicated that 96% of participants were delighted with the training program. This training has proven effective in boosting teachers’ digital literacy. It holds the potential to enhance the quality of instruction at MI Sa’adatuddarain II Tangerang by utilizing more interactive and engaging media.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe implementation of the Independent Curriculum is still hampered by teachers' poor pedagogical competence in creating meaningful learning, especially when it comes to using the deep learning approach at the junior high school level. A partner in this community service project, SMP Islam Mandiri in Bojonggede, Bogor Regency, also had this issue. The goal of this program is to enhance teachers' pedagogical abilities and conceptual knowledge in creating and executing deep learning-based instruction. Twelve SMP Islam Mandiri teachers actively participate in the activity, with two students and three lecturers providing mentorship. The activity was conducted in multiple stages: (1) needs analysis and initial coordination; (2) program socialization; (3) conceptual training; (4) learning tool development workshop; (5) classroom implementation support; and (6) monitoring and evaluation. Learning observations, a comparison of pre-test and post-test results, and an examination of teacher-created learning resources were used to gauge the program's effectiveness. The findings demonstrated a rise in comprehension of the deep learning concept from 33.3% to 83.3%. Collaborative activity use rose from 33.3% to 83.3%, and HOTS-oriented learning objective formulation skills rose from 25.0% to 75.0%. Furthermore, student active engagement increased from 35–40% to 70–80%. These findings indicate that practice-based training and mentoring with systematic stages are effective in improving teachers' pedagogical competence and the quality of meaningful learning. Keywords: Community Service; Deep Learning; Pedagogical Competence; Junior High School Teachers.
