Abstract

This research is a descriptive research using a qualitative research approach. The subjects of this research were 26 students of class VIII A SMP Al Ihsan Yapis Kotaraja. The selection of research subjects used the purposive sampling techniques. The research instruments used were teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets, and individual tests. The purpose of this research is to describe the application of the Numbered Head Together (NHT) learning model to the straight line equation material through one point in class VIII A SMP Al Ihsan Yapis Kotaraja. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion of the learning process by applying the Numbered Head Together (NHT) learning model, it went well. This is evidenced by the results of the teachers observations obtained the category of very good, the activeness of students obtained the high category, and the results of individual tests can help students to understand the material of straight line equations through one point.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative research that aims to describe students' Ways of Thinking and Ways of Understanding in solving arithmetic operation problems of rational numbers reviewed from Harel's theory. The subjects of this study were 19 students of class VII B SMP YPPK Santu Paulus Abepura. The determination of the subjects was carried out using a purposive sampling technique where there were special criteria so that the research objectives were achieved. The data collection technique in this study was an individual test conducted twice and time triangulation was conducted to ensure the validity of the data. The results of the study were that there were five characteristics of students' ways of thinking and ways of understanding in solving rational number arithmetic operations, namely thinking wrong and understanding right (SB), thinking wrong and understanding wrong (SS), thinking wrong (inconsistent) and understanding right (consistent), thinking wrong (inconsistent) and understanding wrong (consistent), and changes in characteristics where students experienced an increase or decrease in characteristics.

Abstract

The Asei people are known for their distinctive local cultural heritage, particularly in the form of carvings that decorate their house walls. These carvings serve not only as symbols of cultural and social identity but also contain visual structures rich in mathematical concepts. This study aims to explore and describe the mathematical elements found in the carvings of houses in the Asei community, located in East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua, as well as to examine their potential as a source for school mathematics learning. This research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with two informants knowledgeable about the meanings of the carvings, and visual documentation. The collected data were analyzed through a continuous interactive process of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that the carvings on Asei houses encompass various mathematical elements, including reflection, symmetry, rotation, dilation, as well as geometric shapes such as circles, triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, parallel lines, obtuse angles, and acute angles. These elements are found within seven main carving motifs, namely kino, heuw, iuwga, me khela-khela, fouw, khaley, and kheika.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model in teaching algebraic factorization to eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Depapre, Jayapura Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research examines the improvement in students' understanding and skills through expert and home group-based learning. Data collection was conducted through written tests and observations, focusing on student activity and instructional implementation. The findings indicate that the Jigsaw model significantly enhances student learning outcomes, achieving average scores above the minimum competency standards, along with positive changes in aspects of cooperation, responsibility, and student attitudes. This model is recommended for broader application to improve the quality of mathematics instruction in junior high schools.
