Abstract

Globalization has been seen as the main power of development. it becomes the buzzword of economic advancement. The success story of several countries including China, India, and also Indonesia being noted as the good side of Globalization. The main theme of my paper is on globalization and equality. Further, question for consiedaration in this paper I discussed wether globalization enhance economic inequality. By reviewing several indicators that used to be seen as the indicator of globalization of economic, hence put more emphasis on more micro-economics indicators I argue that globalization actually endager economic equality. the “fairy tale” of globalization economic prosperity arise due to the using of “theatrical macro economics” Indicators. In a nutshell this macro-economics indicator conceals the real face of globalization’s economic consequences.

Abstract

This research aims to explain and analyze responses from the Gulf Cooperation Council towards the violation of human rights in Egypt post-military coup d'etat in 2013. Democracy comes with a high price in Egypt. However in 2012, a presidential election was held for the very first time in the history of the Egyptian state establishment where Mohamed Morsi was elected as a head of state. Mursi came from Freedom and Justice Party, a political party founded by Ikhwanul Muslimin. After the first year of his incumbent, Morsi was overthrown through a military coup led by General Abdul Fattah Al Sisi in 2013. This event caused a political crisis in Egypt, demonstrations emerged within the entire country and received repressive responses from the military regime. Thousands of people were killed, imprisoned and executed without a fair trial. The international community has condemned the human rights violation that was occurring however, the Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Uni Emirat Arab, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman tended to turn a blind eye towards this issue. In fact, supportive responses were shown towards the ruling regime with Qatar as the only country with an opposite response. As a result, Ikhwanul Muslimin was banned in almost the entire Middle Eastern region.

Saudi Arabia has launched military intervention in Yemen Since March 26, 2015. The military intervention resulted in a high humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has received a lot of criticism from the international community for various violations committed. This research aims to examine the causes of Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Yemen through the individual level analysis perspective. This research examines idiosyncratic factors in Saudi Arabia's military intervention through the perspective of political psychology, more specifically the theory of narcissism-aggression. This research is an explanatory type and uses a qualitative approach. With this framework and methods, this research aims to analyze personality factors of key individuals in Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Yemen in 2015-2017. Abstract

Qatar is a country with a massive influx of immigration. Compared to other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Qatar has the highest ratio of immigrant in their country. Generally, immigrants migrate to Qatar to become a migrant labor. Although Qatar has received massive public scrutiny because of being the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar continues to generate a consistent and increasing influx of migrant. This raises a question of what actually causes the incessant and massive demand of Qatar towards migrant labors. The purpose of this study is to understand the cause of the increasing number of migrant labors that migrate to Qatar despite of Qatar’s reputation in the international stage. This study uses one of the theory of international migration, which is the dual-labor market theory. This perspective focuses the analysis on Qatar as a model of industrial country in a modern society, indicated by its unavoidable need for migrant workers. This study concludes that the demand of Qatar’s labor market plays the most significant role in the continuity of migrant labor influx to Qatar.

Abstract

Tin smuggling is a main problem in the tin mining sector in Indonesia during 2009-2014 even though there are various regulations governing these tin mining activities. This research was conducted to determine the cause of the illegal practices in the tin mining still exist until nowadays. By using an explanatory research, this research aims to explain what happened, how the tin smuggling occurred, and the effects of the tin minning polices towards society. The logic of this research was formed by the analysis from two perspectives which are interrelated: the theory of economic crimes with the neoclassical approach and compliance theory. From these perspectives, the authors found the weaknesses of the policies, such as; influences of the actor’s rationality, ambiguity and temporal limitations of the policies, and the counterproductive impact of the policies on socio-economic conditions of the society that ultimately affect the rampant practice of illegal mining and tin smuggling during 2009-2014 in Indonesia.

Abstract

Tri-border area of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines are facing the threat of terrorism as a result of terrorist activities by Abu Sayyaf and Moro Islamic Liberation Front. ASEAN countries have countered the threat by undertaking joint military cooperation. However, this research found that the security cooperation is not in line with the principle of shared responsibility for comprehensive security stipulated in ASEAN Political Security Community (APSC) Blueprint. This research aims to explain the causes of APSC Blueprint‘s ineffectiveness in promoting shared responsibility for comprehensive security to counter terrorism in tri-border area. This research addresses this question by using qualitative method where secondary data from journals, books, official documents, and reports are utilized. Using the theory of compliance and concept of legalization, this research answers the question by examining the institutional design of ASEAN Political Security Community Blueprint. This research found that there is a compliance problem in APSC Blueprint consisting of failure of obligational clarity, failure of performance clarity, and failure of response clarity. In addition, the ASEAN Political Security Community Blueprint falls into the category of low legalization, making this blueprint is non-binding. Therefore, the violations to the commitment stipulated in the blueprint will not result in significant consequences.

Abstract

In terms of immigration, Papua New Guinea and Australia have committed to jointly face human smuggling actions, that are closely related to the arrival of refugees and asylum seekers. However, the collaboration between the two countries under the Pacific Solution and PNG Solution policies has caused many disadvantages for Papua New Guinea. Strangely, in 2013, Papua New Guinea signed the agreement documents to collaborate on immigration with Australia. The purpose of this study is to find out the reason behind the availability of Papua New Guinea who are willing to continue their cooperation with Australia on immigration, under Operation Sovereign Borders policy. This research uses the theory of institutional liberalism which is in the neoliberal paradigm. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that the reason for the availability of Papua New Guinea to cooperate with Australia, as evidenced by the signing of cooperation agreement documents between the two nation is, if Papua New Guinea is willing to cooperate, the country will achieve its interests as stated in Papua New Guinea Vision 2050.
