Abstract

The number of refugees and illegal migrants fleeing to Indonesia keeps growing significantly since Indonesia poses as a strategic place for a temporary stop before their main destination. This surely brings about predicaments to Indonesia. Against that background, this research aims toanswer the question of "How does the Indonesian government respond to the illegal migrant and refugees problem through the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Semarang in Central Java?". This research is an explanatory research, where both primary and secondary data are used to support the findings. Through a qualitative approach, this research foundthat the government has responded to illegal migrant and refugees problems in a quite excellent manner such as the establishment of rumah detensi imigrasi (rudenim) or detention house and other forms of international cooperation. However, asylum seekers in Indonesia are not fully protected due to some factors such as the lack of regulation, the long-waiting period for the permanent placement and the lack of basic needs.Lastly, the situation only got worse because of the IOM and UNHCR support is still not optimal.

Abstract

The participation of women in the development process is important in achieving the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through their participation, women can support the success of the SDGs as well as encourage a country's economic growth. The creative economy is a sector that the Indonesian government has chosen to increase women's participation. Although the Government has succeeded in making women the main actors in the creative economy, in fact, the efforts made by the Government are not enough because women are still faced a number of vulnerabilities. With this background, this research is aimed to discuss why women's participation in the creative economy in Indonesia has not been maximized to achieve the SDGs through the Gender and Development framework. Furthermore, this research will also look at the fulfillment of the practical needs and strategic interests of women who participate in the creative economy. This research uses a qualitative method with sources obtained from literature studies and interviews. Based on the research that has been done, it was found that the main causes that women's participation has not been maximized to achieve the SDGs through the creative economy are the social construction of gender and the unfulfilled practical needs and strategic interests of women.

Abstract

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has become a legacy of the Soviet Union, broke out again on September 27, 2020. This conflict involved Armenia and Azerbaijan, and attracted the attention of international actors, such as Turkey and Russia. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict lasted for more than six weeks which culminated in a ceasefire agreement signed by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on November 9, 2020. In order to oversee the implementation of this ceasefire agreement, Turkey signed an agreement with Russia to establish a Joint Turkey-Russia Center in November 10, 2020. The purpose of this study is to reveal why Turkey made an agreement with Russia to establish a Joint Turkey-Russia Center in Azerbaijan after the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict (2020). The method used in this research is an explanatory-qualitative approach. This study uses Walter Carlsnaes' Foreign Policy Theory as a theoretical framework. The findings of this study reveal that Turkey made an agreement with Russia in establishing the Turkey-Russia Joint Center because of Turkey's dependence on Russia and the ineffectiveness of co-chairs OSCE Minsk Group , as well as the influence of Turkey's foreign policy doctrine which then prompted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to take strategic role with Russia as well as intermediary for the peace process for Azerbaijan after the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that does not hesitate to accept and provide treatment for refugees and asylum seekers who come from various countries, including the very large number of migrants from Afghanistan. This policy was implemented by the Indonesian government even though Indonesia has no legal obligation, still has domestic problems, and the assistance provided by IOM to deal with refugees is getting smaller. Through this research, the author will analyze the background of the Indonesian government's policy to receive and provide treatment for refugees and asylum seekers from Afghanistan. In analyzing this issue, the author will use the perspective of cosmopolitanism with data analysis techniques using the congruent method. The results show that Indonesia accepts and provides treatment for refugees and asylum seekers from Afghanistan because Indonesia wants to fight for the rights of all migrants from Afghanistan because all human beings are part of one humanitarian community regardless of their affiliation.

Abstract

Technological developments have brought world civilization to a time where everything relies heavily on technology. This development greatly affects all aspects of human life. We can see this from the daily life of humans who are very dependent on the digital world and the internet. The use of the digital world can be seen in vital aspects such as the world of banking, transactions, even in the creative industry. The use of NFT as a way for creative industry activists is a new way to gain and appreciate the work they produce. Aspects that are affected, not only make it easier for humans to do work, but the development of this technology is also used as a gap by criminals to commit crimes. Money laundering crimes and terrorism financing are no longer carried out conventionally, but have penetrated into the digital world. This study aims to find loopholes in the use of NFT as a medium in committing money laundering and terrorism financing crimes, and why it can become a national threat if there is no securitization of the issue. This study uses constructivism theory with the concept of securitization. This study also found that the anonymity feature in NFT transactions can make it easier for criminals to commit money laundering and terrorism financing crimes that can threaten the national security of a country.

Abstract

UK is one of the countries that requires wood for the purpose of using both for structural and non-structural buildings. The high demand for wood has forced UK to ask Indonesia to continue to supply its wood needs. However, illegal logging has become a problem for the forestry sector in Indonesia which has caused many losses, ranging from the unstable timber market industry, the deteriorating economy, and the increasingly unsustainable state of the forest. This made the UK formulate a foreign policy for Indonesia by creating a cooperation scheme through the Multistakeholder Forestry Program. Based on this, the author aims to explain the UK's interest in establishing cooperation with Indonesia through the Multistakeholder Forestry Program in combating Illegal Logging. This paper will focus to explain and analyze the cooperation formed between UK and Indonesia in minimizing the illegal timber trade. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection through secondary sources. This study uses the theory of Neoclassical Realism by looking at the internal and external factors of the UK. The results of this study indicate that the cooperation between the UK and Indonesia has been able to improve forest governance in Indonesia and the UK can easily obtain legal and safe timber. Keywords: Illegal Logging, Cooperation, MFP, Indonesia, UK.

Abstract

The revocation of Article 370 regarding the Special Autonomy Rights for the Kashmir Region which was controlled by India on August 5, 2019 then had a terrible impact, namely human rights violations against the Kashmiri population. India's revocation of Article 370 is the right step to fix various problems in the region and convince the world that the Kashmir issue is a purely Indian domestic problem that does not need to be interfered with by any party. However, Pakistan felt this move was arbitrary, until Pakistan showed a firm reaction through diplomatic and military options. To find out whether Pakistan's actions can be considered as acts of humanitarian intervention, this study seeks to answer them using one of the theories in the Three Grotian Theories, namely Fiduciary Theory. The use of this theory is used to see Pakistan's efforts in its efforts to carry out humanitarian intervention from diplomatic options to gather support and permission from the UN Security Council, as well as the possibility of its implementation through military options while meeting the demands of the Kashmiri insurgents with a focus on upholding human rights in Kashmir which has been seized by India.

Abstract

Abstract

The implementation of infrastructure development in ASEAN economic cooperation in the realm of air and maritime transportation is the cornerstone of the establishment of the ASEAN Open Sky. In every policy-making, Indonesia opens access for interest groups, including the epistemic community who want to exert influence in foreign policy. The epistemic community is a network of professionals with recognized expertise and has the authority to propose or make policies on certain issues that are relevant to their knowledge. The objective of this research is to explain the role of the epistemic community in the making and implementation of foreign policy, in this case INACA in ASEAN Open Sky using constructivism theory. According to constructivism, epistemic communities have an important role in policy making and implementation, they can help to shape the interests and preferences of the state. This research uses the qualitative method and the data needed is obtained through primary and secondary resources by interviewing relevant organizations and reviewing relevant literatures, such as books, journals, news, and another online sources. The interview method was carried out online through questionnaires. This research shows that the role of the epistemic community in policy making is less significant caused by the domination of the government and lack of support for the research development process by the epistemic community.
