Abstract

Indonesia is known for its diversity of religions, cultures, and ethnicities. Despite this diversity, peaceful and harmonious coexistence remains difficult due to interfaith hatred. Therefore, tolerance and moderation are essential pillars in building a peaceful social life. This harmonious coexistence is evident in Cigugur, Kuningan, West Java. All live side by side and reside in this area. Some of them even live in the same family. Most of the previous research focused on inter-religious tolerance, only a few emphasized the influence of local values and the role of religious leaders in fostering harmony in multi-religious societies. This study seeks to elucidate the manifestation of religious harmony and moderation in Cigugur, focusing on the influence of religious leaders and communal social practices. This qualitative study, employing interviews, observation, and documentation, revealed that religious leaders in Cigugur possess varied perspectives; however, they concur that tolerance, mutual respect, and the appreciation of differences constitute the foundation of a peaceful existence. Interfaith dialogue, interfaith social activities, and local values such as "Different Feelings, One Understanding" all contribute to a more harmonious society. This study demonstrates that harmony is not simply born from formal policies, but rather grows from cultural awareness and the behavior of religious leaders who can serve as role models, prioritizing humanity over differences.

Abstract

Arabic is one of the languages that has an important position in the context of religion, culture, and education in Indonesia, especially in the madrasah environment. Mastery of this language not only serves as a communication skill, but also as a medium to instill Islamic values and social norms inherent in the madrasah education system. Therefore, the selection and use of language in Arabic textbooks needs to be critically examined, especially related to aspects of power relations that can be implied in the learning text. This study aims to analyze the interaction of language and power contained in the Class IX Arabic textbook published by the Directorate of KSKK Madrasah, Directorate of Islamic Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020. The research approach uses qualitative methods with critical discourse analysis focused on the study of linguistic elements, text structure, and socio-cultural contexts that form meaning and assert positions of power through language in the textbook. The research Data were obtained through the analysis of textbook texts, focusing on the identification of linguistic strategies used to establish and maintain certain ideologies and social norms. Meanwhile, the results showed that the language in the textbook contains elements that support the realization of institutional power and religious ideology through the choice of words, preparation of materials, and narrative constructs that are directed to form the attitude and understanding of learners in accordance with the values that want to be instilled by educational institutions. The findings of this study make an important contribution to the development of Arabic teaching materials that are not only oriented to the transfer of knowledge, but also able to open a reflective and critical space for hidden power relations in the learning language. Thus, learning materials are expected to support a more inclusive educational process and empower learners in the context of madrasah.

Abstract

LKS as one of the most widely used teaching materials, functions not only as a medium for practicing language skills but also as a tool for socializing social values and gender representation. However, LKS often contain representations that are not neutral; instead, they reflect ideologies, norms, and power relations that prevail in society. Therefore, it is important to conduct a critical study to understand how gender representation and social values are presented in Arabic Language LKS, as well as their implications for the character education process of students. This study aims to analyze gender representation and social values in Arabic Language LKS for Islamic Junior High Schools (MTs) using Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The data were obtained through an in-depth review of reading texts, dialogues, illustrations, and exercises contained in the LKS. The analysis was conducted by mapping the gender roles displayed and identifying the social values embedded in the texts. The findings show that gender representation in Arabic Language LKS for MTs tends to remain biased, reinforcing traditional male roles in the public sphere and female roles in the domestic sphere. Meanwhile, the social values presented prominently emphasize aspects of religiosity, politeness, responsibility, and cooperation but pay less attention to themes of diversity, social justice, and gender equality. These findings indicate that the future development of Arabic Language LKS needs to pay greater attention to the principles of gender equality and the integration of more inclusive and progressive social values. Thus, this study provides an important contribution to the development of teaching materials that not only strengthen students’ language competence but also encourage the formation of fair, open-minded characters with a sense of social justice, in line with the spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Gender inequality that places women in subordinate positions within patriarchal systems has been widely criticized in feminist studies. In literary works, criticism of such systems is often represented through female characters who not only perform social roles but also engage in resistance and establish power within society. The novel Daulah Sayyidat Fi Mamlakah Nisa by Niqula Haddad portrays a society led by women as a critique of male domination. However, the dynamics of women’s roles, resistance, and power represented in the novel still require more comprehensive scholarly examination. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the dynamics of women's roles, the forms of women's resistance to patriarchal domination, and the construction of women's power from a feminist perspective in the novel. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a feminist literary criticism approach. The data consist of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogues that represent women's roles, resistance, and power, collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that women are depicted as having strategic roles as state leaders, political decision makers, and drivers of education and culture. Furthermore, women resist male domination and establish new structures of power that influence gender relations within society.
