Abstract

Nobita Hill is one of the areas being developed as a tourist attraction in the city of Padang. Above Nobita Hill is a beautiful view, and you can see the picture of Padang City. However, the hilly topography with steep slopes makes this area prone to landslides. This activity aims to map the potential for landslides on Novita Hill. Activities start from preparation, implementation in the field, and evaluation. Field activities are carried out in two stages. The first stage is an experiment to map the landslide potential. The second stage is socialization. The target audience for this activity is the Village Head of Jua Nan XX Village and its officials and the community around Nobita Hill. The results of the study and mapping were disseminated to the village administration and community leaders involved in the development of the Bukit Nobita tourism area, which was carried out on November 16, 2022. The result of tourist objects often changes land use and cover. However, mitigation of the potential for landslides in this area has never been done. Therefore, the Andalas University Physics Department team mapped the potential for landslides on Novita Hill for six months, using microseismic and geoelectric methods. This activity obtained a map of the distribution of dominant frequencies, a map of the distribution of amplification, and an identification of slip planes concerning the potential for landslides on Nobita Hill. Furthermore, the results of the mapping and mitigation efforts have been disseminated to the village administration and community leaders involved in the development of the Bukit Nobita tourism area. This activity was carried out well. The landslide potential distribution map obtained from this activity is input for the community and stakeholders in developing the Buki Nobita tourist attraction that is safe from disasters.

Abstract

A geothermal potential indication mapping was conducted in the Lubuk Sikaping area, Pasaman Regency, using a remote sensing approach based on satellite imagery to support the initial identification of prospective geothermal zones in regions with limited field data. This study employed three main parameters: the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Land Surface Temperature (LST), and Fault and Fracture Density (FFD), which represent vegetation conditions, surface temperature, and geological fracture structures, respectively. The data were obtained from Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS and SRTM DEM imagery, processed using Google Earth Engine (GEE) and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, and the integration of the three parameters was carried out using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results showed that NDVI values ranged from 0.0046 to 0.5569, LST values from 15.00 to 44.89 °C, and FFD values exceeded 3.2 km/km² in active fault zones. The prospective geothermal zones are concentrated in the central to northwestern parts of the study area, including regions without surface manifestations, and validation through spatial comparison with regional geological data and nearby geothermal manifestations revealed strong correspondence and supported the model’s accuracy. These findings indicate that the remote sensins and can serve as a valuable reference for guiding further exploration planning in areas with limited field measurement data.g–based approach has significant potential for non-invasive preliminary identification of geothermal prospect.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the surface deformation of Mount Marapi, West Sumatra, after the December 3, 2023 eruption as an indicator of volcanic activity to support disaster mitigation. Sentinel-1A imagery (IW-SLC mode) from October 23, 2023 to January 15, 2024 was processed using SNAP and QGIS through the stages of coregistration, interferogram generation, topographic correction (SRTM DEM 30 m), phase unwrapping, and conversion to deformation with the Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) technique. The results indicate three deformation phases: slight pre-eruption deflation, significant inflation prior to the eruption, and post-eruption deflation. Maximum inflation of +0.84 m occurred during November 28–December 10, 2023, followed by deflation reaching –0.90 m from December 10, 2023 to January 15, 2024. Convergent vector directions toward the crater center indicate pressure accumulation caused by magma or gas migration, while pressure migration toward the southwest is associated with the eruption and the subsequent cold lahar event in May 2024. These findings are consistent with seismic and visual data from PVMBG/MAGMA Indonesia. Therefore, the DInSAR method is proven effective for monitoring volcanic deformation both spatially and temporally, and has strong potential to support data-driven early warning and disaster mitigation systems.
