Abstract

Karo Regency is one of the main tourism destinations in North Sumatra Province which is famous for its natural beauty and strategic location as one of the districts that inhabits Lake Toba's super priority destinations. But the fact that in the Karo District over the past decade there has been a Sinabung volcano disaster that has disrupted and affected the tourism sektor therefore, this study aims to examine the existing conditions of the main tourist attractions in Karo District and the impact of the eruption of the Sinabung volcano on these tourist attractions. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods using observation data collection techniques, focus group discussions, and desk research. It examines 7 (seven) main tourist attractions in terms of attractions, accessibility, and amenities. Those seven tourist attractions are: Gundaling Hill, Penatapan, Lumbini Nature Park, Lau Kawar Lake, Sipiso-piso Waterfall, Berastagi Fruit Market and Karo Heritage Museum. It was concluded that Lake Lau Kawar is one of the tourist attractions with the most severe impact of the eruption of Mount Sinabung. On the other hand, traders in the Berastagi fruit market have also become more creative in marketing their products not only limited to natural products whose quality and quantity have declined since the eruption of the Mt. Sinabung. The effect of the Sinabung volcano eruption is not too significant on tourism infrastructure and amenities, but the improvement of the two components is important because the conditions of some facilities, especially toilets, have not met the standards. Abstract

This study seeks to develop a prototype model of stakeholder collaboration related to the management of homestays in the Kembang Kuning Tourism Village. The reason behind this research is the existence of homestays and the community as managers who feel the impact of the Covid – 19 Pandemic - One way that can be taken to get out and survive in the Covid-19 Pandemic is by collaboration. This study aims to a) identify the stakeholders who play a role in the management of homestays in the Kembang Kuning Tourism Village; b) analyze the form of roles given to homestays in Kembang Kuning Tourism Village, and c) design the prototype of the Stakeholder Collaboration Model that can be given to the manager of the Homestay in the Kembang Kuning Tourism Village. The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach, and data collection methods used are interviews, FGDs, and documentation. The results of this study are that there are 18 stakeholders involved in the management of the Homestay. However, of the 18 existing stakeholders, only eight stakeholders play an optimal and sustainable role. The rest is still not optimal and not sustainable. The design of the formed model shows that there is still a lack of sense of responsibility, less active communication links, and the existence of unequal understanding between stakeholders regarding the vision and mission of homestay management in Kembang Kuning Tourism Village.

Abstract

Purpose: Mountain tourism being a tourist destination that offers natural and special interest attractions thus appropriate for visitors that prefer nature and adventure. Understanding visitor management is crucial for mountain tourism operators. The aims of this study are to 1) Identify the availability of tourist attractions; 2) Identify the actual condition of visitor management; and 3) Recommend a management quality improvement model through the visitor management approach. Method: The research applied a qualitative approach and employed interviews and observations to collect data. The research was conducted in the Mount Pundu Nence area. This research was conducted from January to March 2023. Result: The results of the study indicated that the component of tourist attractions consists of interest as the main attraction and is supported by natural and cultural attractions. The actual condition of visitor management is not well demonstrated by the unidentified registration of visitors, unavailable tourist information center (TIC), the visitor flow is incomplete, the pricing and fees are less than optimal, the parking lot is not adequate, the signboard is lacking and the waste management is not optimal. The research recommended a management improvement model based on the components of hard visitor management tools and soft visitor management tools. The hard visitor management tools recommended three aspects, such as setting prices and fees in the packaging of packages, providing parking space and creating regulations for waste management. The soft visitor management tools recommended four aspects, i.e., using QR code as a registration and payment system for visitors, providing tourist information center (TIC) by utilizing the current buildings and using social media to manage information, installing signage in vital areas, and developing a visitor flow system that could be implemented by visitors and operators. Contribution: The research presents a model of mountain tourism management using the visitor management approach. The model could be implemented by tourism operators or local authorities to improve the quality of mountain tourism experiences.

Abstract

The existence of Mandalika as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Lombok, and as one of the super-priority destinations brings an opportunity to Indonesia, especially to recover from the impact of economic recession due to the Covid-19 pandemic and 8.0 Earthquake in West Nusa Tenggara province. One of the greatest opportunities is the international event of MOTOGP to be held in Mandalika Circuit for about ten years. As a vocational institution, Lombok Tourism Polytechnic conducted several programs to support the acceleration of tourism recovery, especially in the SEZ Mandalika and its supporting areas through increasing the capacity of human resources, particularly in SEZ Mandalika and its surroundings. These programs are workshops in hospitality service, technical guidance in creating foods and beverages from local sources, making beds, and improving skills in a foreign language. There were 120 targeted participants in this activity consisting of security personnel, street vendors, the manager or owner of SARHUNTA and homestays around SEZ Mandalika and its buffer areas. The duration of this project was 6 months, through observation, coordination, programming, implementation of workshop activities and technical guidance as well as gathering feedback from the conducted activities. After conducting the activities, most participants stated that the programs supported and facilitated their work, and they could improve their knowledge and skills in many aspects. However, intensive coaching is needed, especially in small groups to optimize the results of these programs.
