Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: Mountain tourism being a tourist destination that offers natural and special interest attractions thus appropriate for visitors that prefer nature and adventure. Understanding visitor management is crucial for mountain tourism operators. The aims of this study are to 1) Identify the availability of tourist attractions; 2) Identify the actual condition of visitor management; and 3) Recommend a management quality improvement model through the visitor management approach. Method: The research applied a qualitative approach and employed interviews and observations to collect data. The research was conducted in the Mount Pundu Nence area. This research was conducted from January to March 2023. Result: The results of the study indicated that the component of tourist attractions consists of interest as the main attraction and is supported by natural and cultural attractions. The actual condition of visitor management is not well demonstrated by the unidentified registration of visitors, unavailable tourist information center (TIC), the visitor flow is incomplete, the pricing and fees are less than optimal, the parking lot is not adequate, the signboard is lacking and the waste management is not optimal. The research recommended a management improvement model based on the components of hard visitor management tools and soft visitor management tools. The hard visitor management tools recommended three aspects, such as setting prices and fees in the packaging of packages, providing parking space and creating regulations for waste management. The soft visitor management tools recommended four aspects, i.e., using QR code as a registration and payment system for visitors, providing tourist information center (TIC) by utilizing the current buildings and using social media to manage information, installing signage in vital areas, and developing a visitor flow system that could be implemented by visitors and operators. Contribution: The research presents a model of mountain tourism management using the visitor management approach. The model could be implemented by tourism operators or local authorities to improve the quality of mountain tourism experiences.

Abstract

This paper presents a study that aims at investigating relationship between childhood stories and intention to visit the places in the stories. It involved 145 Tourism college students in Indonesia who rated their answers to 17 statements on an e-questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale. Findings of the study showed there is a significant relationship between childhood stories and intention to visit. However, despite respondents’ interest in visiting the places in their childhood stories, they still would consider visiting other places beyond the places in their childhood stories provided they have other options. The findings can contribute to the knowledge about the relationship between childhood experiences and adults’ attitudinal and behavioral patterns, and to the planning, development, and marketing for a specific tourist market segment. Future studies can consider exploring the 54.5% of unknown factors affecting respondents’ interest in visiting tourist destinations or attractions associated or related to their childhood stories, as well as the volume of this specific tourist market segment.

This study seeks to assess the efficacy of human resource management, specifically via the training of tour guides and ongoing education, in enhancing the quality of tourism services and environmental conservation. This study highlights the role of human resource management in fostering sustainable ecotourism at TWA Gunung Tunak as a conservation tourism site. The study employs a qualitative methodology, including interviews and field observations to examine the execution of training programs and their effects on ecotourism operations. The research findings suggest that while knowledge concerning ecological and cultural heritage exists, there is a necessity to augment training quality, offer competency certification, and improve access to digital material. Enhancing human resource capability in advanced education, multi-stakeholder engagement, and supportive policies is essential for attaining optimal and sustianable ecotourism management in this region

Abstract

Due to its high biodiversity, TWA Gunung Tunak is susceptible to disturbance. In order to develop as an ecotourism destination, management must implement proper sustainable measures due to the limited supply of natural resources. Descriptive qualitative methods are used in data analysis procedures, such as participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. This approach places a strong emphasis on in-depth knowledge in order to support the creation of guidelines and procedures for the growth of ecotourism destinations. Human resources, destination management, environmental sustainability, sanitation, security, and comfort are just a few of the barriers that may stand in the way. The following strategies are implemented in order to develop potential and find solutions to these obstacles: weakness-opportunity (W-O) strategies with tourism destination promotion strategies and security and comfort improvement strategies; weakness-threat (W-T) strategies with human resource development strategies and institutional development and destination management strategies; strength-opportunity (S-O) strategies with tourism destination development strategies and tourist attraction development strategies; strength-threat (S-T) strategies with environmental quality improvement strategies and ecotourism tourism development strategies. In summary, there is a great deal of potential for the development of TWA Gunung Tunak as an ecotourism destination. This potential encompasses socio-cultural elements like local knowledge and the warmth of the locals, as well as natural elements like the scenic beauty of the mountains, beaches, and woods.
