Abstract

This study investigates the resilience strategies employed by small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMTEs) in Tanjung Bira, a marine-based destination in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, to cope with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Duchek's Model of resilience, which conceptualizes resilience as a meta-capability composed of three stages (anticipation, coping, and adaptation), is used as a key framework. An exploratory qualitative approach was employed, involving in-depth semi-structured interviews with seven informants representing various tourism stakeholders. Thematic analysis revealed several main strategies for SMTE resilience: collaboration with stakeholders, government intervention, implementation of digital marketing, strengthening SMTEs legality, and strengthening/diversification of SMTE products. Mapping these strategies onto Duchek's Model, the anticipation stage included strategic planning, risk assessment, and building dynamic capabilities; the coping stage consisted of immediate financial measures and policy support; and the adaptation stage involved diversification, technology and innovation adoption, and collaboration and networking. A key implication is that destination management organizations should create innovative products and leverage online platforms for marketing to increase visitor arrivals and boost SMTE product sales. The findings contribute to understanding SMTE resilience in the context of a marine-based destination in Eastern Indonesia and provide insights for policymakers and practitioners to support SMTE recovery and long-term sustainability post-pandemic.

Abstract

Studies on destination attributes mainly focused on the motivation or experience of tourists and their relation to these attributes. Therefore, in-depth reports are required to fully understand tourism villages as destinations, particularly in relation to the factors that contribute to their success. This study aimed to (1) identify tourism products in tourism villages, (2) identify the determinants of tourism destination attributes, and (3) recommend efforts to improve the management of destination attributes in developing as tourism villages. A qualitative approach was used which was conducted at Kuta Village, Lombok, in 2022. The results showed the tourism products in Kuta Village are the local population's natural landscape, culture, and hospitality. The determining factors that support the management of destination products were strategic locations, various tourist attractions and activities, availability of amenities, as well as good accessibility. However, the village managers needed to address essential issues, such as parking facilities, transportation, and limited skilled personnel in providing services to tourists. This study recommended three steps for managing destination attributes, namely training in sustainable home stay management, improving tourism-supporting facilities and infrastructure, as well as regulating physical infrastructure and accessibility. Moreover, there were arguments (insights) regarding the existence of a village as a destination with the management of attributes and determinants. These served as the key to the successful management of tourism destination.

Abstract

Abstract

Maritime tourism is synonymous with natural beauty, but its culinary riches are often overlooked, even though local cuisine can be a significant tourist attraction, such as at Mampie Beach, whose potential is hidden and neglected amidst the post-COVID-19 crisis. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques using interviews, documentation and observation, then analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research results show much culinary potential, mainly traditional foods such as Baye/Golla Kambu, Kasippi, Coklat Macoa, and Co'ri. as products that can be marketed or sold in the Mampie Beach marine tourism area. However, the lack of awareness and initiative of the community, tourism managers, and local government means that the culinary potential of these traditional foods cannot support the marine tourism of Mampie Beach, so it cannot impact tourism recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, several strategies need to be implemented involving the community, tourism managers and local government to optimize the existing culinary potential: First, holding regular thematic culinary events, where local traders can promote and sell their traditional dishes; Second, establishing partnerships with local businesses such as restaurants, food stalls and local food producers to introduce and serve regional specialties at tourist attractions, and Third, carry out culinary tours and cooking courses, where tourists can learn about local culinary culture while enjoying authentic dishes served by local people

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of government policies and determine the perception of tourism business actors with the government's policy regarding the CHSE program during the pandemic period in the city of Parepare. This research is a type of qualitative research, with data collection techniques using interviews, documentation and triangulation. Using a research instrument, namely interview guidelines. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques, through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that implementation of government policies regarding the CHSE program during the pandemic in the city of Pare-Pare has not been carried out properly and optimally so that this makes tourism service business actors learn and find out for themselves about the CHSE program, restaurant service business actors in particular, only following the recommendations of health protocols, this is due to the lack of socialization and coordination provided by the government. The perception of tourism business actors with the government's policy on the CHSE Program raises good and positive things, but because there is no socialization about policies This makes restaurant service business actors and guests or consumers have different perceptions and positive and negative views, the existence of government policies regarding the CHSE Program is not well known by restaurant service businesses and the public so they choose to find out for themselves. and practice it yourself.
