Abstract

Tuberculosis is the 9th leading cause of death in the world, but it takes at least 6 months to be treated. One of the challenges in tuberculosis treatment is that the treatment time is quite long, and the drugs used are also quite a lot so that it affects patient adherence in taking medication. The objective of this study was to see the effectiveness of video calls in enhancing the adherence of tuberculosis patients. The research method used was experimental pre-post noncontrol design. This study involved 12 tuberculosis patients from the Kepulungan Community Health Centre who were enrolled in the Pulmonary Tuberculosis Control Programme (Program Penanggulangan Tuberkulosis Paru/P2TB) and who met the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the study, video call treatment was the independent variable while adherence was the dependent variable. The sample collection used total sampling and statistical analysis using Wilcoxon test. The findings of this investigation suggest that there is a substantial discrepancy in compliance levels between the pre- and post-video call treatment phases, as evidenced by the augmentation in the mean TB-MAS score from 102.5 to 113.6, accompanied by a p-value of 0.018 (<0.05). This shows that video calls are useful in improving patient adherence in taking antituberculosis drugs.

Abstract

Essential oils from thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum) are natural antioxidants with significant potential to neutralize free radicals. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant properties of a serum containing a blend of these essential oils using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. It also aims to determine which serum formulation meets the required physical quality standards. The assessment includes organoleptic analysis, pH measurement, viscosity, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesiveness, globule size distribution, stability, emulsion type, hedonic evaluation, and antioxidant activity. The results indicate that the serum is in liquid form, with a pH between 5.149±0.227 and 5.447±0.109, viscosity ranging from 817.1±3.8 to 2083±0.00 cPs, adhesiveness lasting 5.45±0.26 to 11.210±0.09 minutes, and spreadability between 2.32±0.016 and 2.71±0.053 cm. Hedonic testing revealed that F1 was the most preferred formulation. Antioxidant activity analysis showed moderate to very weak effects, with IC50 values of 145.628 ppm (F1), 413.658 ppm (F2), and 536.529 ppm (F3).  F1, which contains 4.5% clove essential oil and 1.5% thyme essential oil, demonstrated the best balance of physical properties and antioxidant activity among the tested formulations.

Abstract

Abstract

Kucur Village is a tangerine producer in Malang Regency. However, people still sell it in fresh fruit form; besides that, the pest of fruit flies is also a scourge for farmers, and the absorption capacity in the market for fresh fruit is still relatively lower than the products produced. Processing oranges into secondary products can be a solution for farmers by processing tangerines. Ma Chung University's service aims to develop recipes for making instant powder drinks from tangerines to increase the tangerines' economic value. The method used is recipe development in the laboratory, which is practised in Kucur Village to find which recipe is most suitable and produce products for sale. The results of this service and the Kucur village community produced a recipe suitable for sale as an instant powder drink. The recipe for this instant powder drink contains an infusion of lemongrass stems, ginger, bay leaves, and lime.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Mercury, a hazardous heavy metal known for its toxicity to the human body, finds application in cosmetics due to its capacity to inhibit melanin formation. Traditional mercury analysis relies on resource-intensive and time-consuming instrumentation. Objective: This study aims to devise cost-effective and practical sensors for mercury detection. Methods: The sensor development process involves immobilizing the sensor onto paper, reacting it with mercury, scanning the outcome using a scanner, and subsequently quantifying RGB values using the ImageJ software. Results: Optimization of reagent concentrations gave a ratio of methylene blue, AgNO3, gallic acid, and ascorbic acid at 0.5:7:1.5:1 generating the best results. Additionally, pH optimization within the range of 5 to 9 demonstrates stability without necessitating the inclusion of a buffer solution. Notably, the blue variant exhibits superior responsiveness during concentration optimization. Characterization of the sensor reveals a response time of 3 minutes and minimal interference of 2.145% from other substances. The sensor exhibits a linearity range of 0.5-250 ppm, regression equation y = 8.603x + 21.124, an R-value of 0.994, and an exceedingly low p-value of 6.9924589548512 x 10-9. The sensor boasts a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.206 and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.265, indicative of its precision. Further assessments reveal a percent relative standard deviation (% RSD) precision of 2.017% and a recovery rate of 96.14%. Conclusion: The sensor has exhibited stability for over one month under room temperature storage conditions. A comparison between the UV-Vis spectrophotometer and the sensor signifies no significant difference between the two methods.
