Abstract

Contemporary Muslim families increasingly encounter challenges related to character formation, parent–child communication, and the transmission of religious values. While the narrative of Prophet Yusuf has been widely examined from theological, literary, and psychological perspectives, limited attention has been given to its contribution as a framework for Islamic family education, particularly in the opening narrative of Qur'an 12:1–6. This study aims to explore the Islamic family educational values embedded in the narrative of Prophet Yusuf's dream and to examine their relevance for contemporary family education. This qualitative library research employs a tahlili approach to Qur'anic interpretation by analyzing Qur'an 12:1–6 through classical and contemporary tafsir literature, supported by relevant scholarly works on Islamic education and family studies. The findings reveal that the narrative embodies five interconnected educational values: strengthening faith, cultivating respect toward parents, fostering affection within the family, nurturing optimism, and promoting constructive parent–child communication. These values are reflected in the compassionate interaction between Prophet Ya'qub and Prophet Yusuf, demonstrating an educational model grounded in spirituality, wisdom, emotional support, and parental guidance. The study concludes that the narrative of Prophet Yusuf's dream offers a holistic framework for Islamic family education that remains relevant for nurturing moral character, spiritual development, and harmonious family relationships in contemporary Muslim society.

Abstract

This study examines the Sufi values contained in the story of the meeting of the Prophet Moses and the Prophet Khidr as immortalized in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Kahf, verses 65-82. Through a Sufi hermeneutic approach, this study analyzes the esoteric dimensions of the story, including the concept of fana' fi al-syaikh, etiquette in pursuing the spiritual path, and the transformation of consciousness through surrender to the guidance of a spiritual teacher. The method used is textual analysis with an interpretative-qualitative approach to the text of the Qur'an and classical Sufi interpretations. The results of the study show that this story contains fundamental Sufi values in the form of: (1) the concept of seeking laduni knowledge as knowledge obtained directly from Allah, (2) the importance of adab and tawadhu' in the student-teacher relationship, (3) the meaning of spiritual patience (sabr) in facing inner trials, and (4) the transformation from rational knowledge ('aql) to intuitive knowledge (kashf). These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the Sufi dimension in the Qur'an and its relevance for the development of contemporary Islamic spirituality.

Abstract

The increasing number of problems and conflicts in household life shows the importance of resolution efforts that are able to maintain family unity in a wise and peaceful manner. This study aims to examine the concept of household conflict mediation from the perspective of QS. al-Nisā’/4:35. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Primary data were obtained from classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis books, while secondary data were collected from books and scientific articles related to household conflict, mediation, and Islamic family law. The data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method through a tahlili interpretation approach to QS. al-Nisā’/4:35. The findings reveal that household conflict (syiqāq) is a condition of dispute between husband and wife that may threaten family stability if not properly managed. The Qur’an offers a conflict resolution mechanism through the appointment of two ḥakam from both families as mediators to achieve iṣlāḥ (reconciliation). This study concludes that QS. al-Nisā’/4:35 not only provides a normative solution to household conflicts but also offers an applicable and contextual mediation model for maintaining family harmony amid the dynamics of modern life.
