Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method in improving work posture in industrial settings. Poor posture can lead to musculoskeletal disorders and reduced productivity. Using a quantitative approach, RULA was applied across several production departments, with data collected through direct field observation. The analysis shows that RULA significantly improved work posture, reduced discomfort, and lowered the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. The study supports RULA as an effective tool for posture improvement and recommends integrating regular ergonomic evaluations into work design.

Abstract

A firm called CV. Sulis Keramik makes parts for mosquito mats; these parts come in the shape of PTC heating elements. A kind of positive temperature coefficient thermistor used in heating applications is the ptc heating element. There are still many different waste indicators throughout the production process, which lowers the process's efficacy and efficiency. Defects with a 10% defect rate are among the main issues. Furthermore, there exist other indicators of waste associated with waiting times, transportation, and other wastes. With the use of lean manufacturing techniques, this project seeks to eradicate waste from CV Sulis Keramik ptc heating element production process. Value stream mapping in its current state, waste assessment models, value stream analysis tools, production system improvement, and designing future value stream mapping were all shown in the research's first stage.

Abstract

In Surakarta City, high mobility is shown by 2023 vehicle registration data, where passenger cars and motorcycles made up 95,19% of all vehicles, while public transport units numbered only 354. In 2024, the city’s economy grew by 5,61%, led by the Information and Communication sector. However, transportation did not contribute significantly, even though efficient public transport is crucial for sustainable urban growth. This study aims to recommend suitable public transportation modes for Surakarta that address mobility challenges and support integrates transportation ergonomics focusing on convenient, safety, accessibility and inclusivity into the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to evaluate alternatives. Using a validated and reliable questionnaire distributed through purposive sampling, the study assessed several modes. The TOPSIS results show closeness coefficients of 0,847 for Batik Solo Trans (BST), 0,649 for taxis and motorcycle taxis, 0,593 for feeder minibuses, and 0,152 for pedicabs. BST emerged as the most suitable mode, offering potential to enhance mobility, streamline logistics, and attract investment. The findings highlight the importance of ergonomics-based transport policies that improve user experience and encourage a shift from private to public transportation, strengthening Surakarta’s economic resilience.

Abstract

This study intends to create a system for maintenance and a schedule for preventive maintenance for the sewing machine at CV Madyotomo by utilizing the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach. The main problem is the high downtime of the Müller Martini 321 stitching machine, which reached 20,114 minutes during January–June 2025, resulting in a production capacity loss of 1,005,711 books and an estimated financial loss of around Rp50,285,550. The research method involved identifying critical components through observation, interviews, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), followed by the calculation of Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and failure distribution using Minitab 19 software. The results indicate four critical components with the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN), namely bearing (240), v-belt (189), shaft gear (175), and support gear (160). Based on the analysis, the optimal preventive maintenance intervals are bearing every 18 days, v-belt every 21 days, shaft gear every 21 days, and support gear every 28 days, with MTTF values ranging from 693 to 1,174 hours and MTTR averaging 4–6 hours. The implementation of an RCM-based preventive maintenance strategy is proven to reduce downtime, improve machine reliability, and ensure production efficiency, thus providing a guideline for printing companies in formulating measurable, effective, and efficient maintenance policies.

Abstract

Warehouse SSI 3 of PT. Sami Surya Indah Plastik is a polymer raw material storage facility of approximately 1,088 m², storing main raw materials (HDPE, LLDPE), supporting materials (metalonce, pellet, calcium), and external raw materials. The existing layout suffers from misplaced raw materials, the absence of grouping based on movement frequency, and dependence on a single operator, resulting in an average waiting time of up to 30 minutes. A physical constraint also exists in the form of a maximum stacking limit of 2 pallets due to safety factors. This study analyzes the suitability of raw material placement, designs a proposed layout using ABC classification and class-based storage (CBS), and compares performance using historical data from January–December 2025. The ABC classification results formed the basis for the proposed storage zoning, evaluated through FlexSim simulation. The proposed layout reduced total material handling moment from 59,013,313.97 kg/m to 49,688,902.90 kg/m and weighted average distance from 13.38 m to 11.27 m, each with 16% efficiency.

Abstract

Machine redesign was now very important to solve existing design problems and adapt production flows to the development of industrial needs. One of the medium-sized industries that uses machines for its production is the Tempe Chips Industrial Center located in Grobog Village, Wonogiri District. The slicing machine currently used by the Tempe Chips Industrial Center located in Grobog Village, Wonogiri District often produces unstable cuts and a lot of waste. This study aims to present the Axiomatic Design (AD) model as a structured framework for redesigning a high-quality slicing machine. The Axiomatic Design method was used to translate customer needs (Voice of Customer) and environmental criteria (Voice of Environment) into Functional Requirements (FRs). FRs were then used as the main input in developing Design Parameters (DPs), resulting in a Design Matrix. The design results that the proposed design has two blades with a thickness of 2 mm, a 1/4 Hp dynamo, which requires an adjustment to the target capacity of ±10 kg/hour, dimensions of machine had 300 mm in length, 250 mm in width, and 399 mm in height. Axiomatic Design can be effectively applied as a framework for redesigning medium-scale industrial food processing machines, especially for Mucuna commodities, a relatively hard commodity that demands cutting precision. Further research was recommended to develop this design result to the detailed design and prototyping stage.
