Abstract

The existence of minority groups often leads to conflict in a homogeneous community. Differences, misdirection, are often blamed on those who are considered controversial. One of the minority groups of public concern is the Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI) in Tenjowaringin Village, Salawu District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java Province. In 2005 and 2013 there were conflicts between JAI and non-JAI groups in Tenjowaringin. The conflict caused damage to buildings, closure of houses of worship, and hampered communication interactions between the two groups. This study uses a qualitative interview and observation techniques. There were 8 informants among JAI and non-JAI groups. The informants represented residents, community leaders, and the local village government. The research observations were carried out for two months in Tenjowarigin Village, Salawu District, Tasikmalaya Regency. The results of the study explained that the conflict caused distrust between groups, including the closing of the mosque by non-JAI groups and making it difficult for JAI groups to carry out worship. To restore communication activities between the two groups, the two groups re-established post-conflict interaction through several activities initiated by the community or village government such as volleyball and eye donors. Abstract

This study examines the crisis communication strategies of the JKT48 Operational Team (JOT) following the 2025 “No Encore” incident, which emerged after the viral circulation of an inappropriate photo involving the group’s General Manager and escalated into a major reputational crisis. The controversy triggered strong fan backlash and culminated in the symbolic withdrawal of support during the Full House 2025 concert. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research analyzes organizational responses through interviews with fans, observations of social media interactions, and documentation of official statements. Data were interpreted using thematic analysis and compared with the principles of the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). The findings show that JOT’s initial clarification was perceived as slow and insufficient, contributing to heightened dissatisfaction and crisis escalation. However, the second clarification and the introduction of FanSpace, a structured two-way dialogue forum, marked a shift toward more transparent and participatory communication. Fan responses indicate that FanSpace helped reduce tensions and demonstrated managerial willingness to listen, though full trust recovery requires consistent follow-up actions. This study highlights the importance of speed, openness, and dialogic engagement in crisis communication within fan-based entertainment industries. The implications emphasize that organizations must adopt adaptive, audience-centered communication strategies to rebuild legitimacy and restore public trust after preventable crises.

Abstract

Interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds can be a barrier to intercultural communication. This research aims to understand the intercultural communication process, the variables that facilitate it, and the various barriers and communication adaptation techniques faced by local vendors on Kuta Beach, Bali, when interacting with foreign tourists. Kuta Beach was chosen as the research location because it is an international tourism area with a high level of transactional intercultural interaction. The study implemented a qualitative research approach, utilizing focused ethnographic methods. Data were collected using several techniques, including direct observation, interviews, and documentation with five key informants, local vendors, and three supporting informants, including foreign tourists. Data analysis used thematic analysis, referring to Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model and Chaney and Martin's framework of intercultural communication barriers. The research findings show that the communication process between local vendors and foreign tourists occurs through a combination of limited verbal communication and dominant nonverbal communication. The communication barriers identified include physical, cultural, perceptual, motivational, experiential, emotional, linguistic, nonverbal, and competitive barriers. To overcome these obstacles, local vendors independently developed adaptive communication strategies, such as using simple English, body gestures, friendly expressions, and utilizing communication aids. This research emphasizes the importance of intercultural communication skills for local vendors in supporting tourism interactions in the Kuta Beach area, Bali.

Abstract

West Bandung Regency, West Java has various types of agricultural products. One of the agricultural products produced is lemon. From the time the pandemic occurred at the end of 2019 until it peaked in 2020 and 2021 demand for lemons increased by 81%. However, at this time in 2022, there is a 50% decrease in demand which has resulted in the income of lemon farmers dropping significantly. One of the causes of the decline in demand is that lemon farmers only focus on a few regular consumers who order large quantities of lemons, as a result, when market demand falls, these consumers will automatically lower their orders. In addition, farmers are unskilled in marketing lemons because they are only used to relying on a few consumers, which makes their garden yields pile up, causing losses. The purpose of this paper is to determine the optimization of effective marketing channels so as to increase the income of lemon farmers.
